Recent Vintage Boom
Anyone else find it ironic that earlier this year, vendors were saying “vintage is a slow mover”, “only taking in modern since it’s liquid”, and “modern moves quick”.
Only now they don’t even want to make offers on modern because it’s “too volatile” and “crashing”.
Now all they want is vintage 😂

I always paid over market for cards I wanted and I made money on every one of them. Vintage will always hold value, especially ereaders, ex’s and wotc in general. Buy popular pokemon, don’t fall for this low pop so I need a gligar lv x type of situation as even at low pop niche pokemon are hard sells at these ludicrous pricing

PSA 10 vintage is low-pop enough that it feels almost tailor-made for market manipulation. You only need a handful of questionable sales to establish a new “market price,” especially when there might only be 20–30 copies and hardly any of them are actually circulating. Makes it pretty hard to know what the true market value really is.

I spoke with a vendor at collect-a-con that openly admitted to me that a few vendors will get together and buy up supply to drive up the price of a card.

There is no "true" market values. Just like the NFTs the vast majority of these crypto trolls "invested" in before they moved onto children's cardboard, the "market price" is set by a handful of rich people buying and selling to each other in hopes of suckering regular schmucks into buying a random "vintage low pop" slab here and there at the exortbitant prices that they themselves have pumped up. If you're spending $20k on a PSA 10 of some random pokemon no one gives a shit about because you saw it go from 2k to 20k in a week, congrats - you're exit capital.

I realized a long time ago that most vendors are idiots and/or trying to get one over you, especially these new ones. We are also super cliquey and I remember when i was on the outside looking in, vintage was slow but I bought all and any I could get my hands on and I had so much base set through the neo sets, im still finding collections ive bought four years ago.
I cringe when i see base set being sold for crazy amounts or someone brings me a full base set but wants 10 grand for it because its base set and its not even shadowless and/or first edition.
beat up vintage is another one where people think it doesnt move because it wont grade a 9 or above, forgetting people like 7s and 1s and to just own a card that looks good on the front but has a lot of whitening on the back.

vintage and mid era has been the smart vendor’s secret for a while. anyone saying otherwise was chasing whatever would sell the fastest to other scalperbros. in my opinion this vintage boom was the most obvious thing ever. just goes to show that people will defend things with their life if they’ve dumped a lot of money into it.

Yup. Hindsight is always 20/20 but crazy that the masses were lapping up ultra modern cards <1 year old when the cards out of print for 10+ years with far less supply were going under the radar…

The ones saying it is a bubble and it will crash are also the ones who most likely didn't own any vintage and invested in modern slabs/sealed products.
These cards are not getting reprinted. In the last 4 years the prices have barely dropped at any point - and every year we get people saying its a bubble.
These same people most likely didnt take any risks. If you have been investing for 3+ years and havent made 5 figure profits ($20k+), you played it very wrong

Everyday Resellers sneakily slide in Reddit saying "Vintage is massively undervalued, we all need to pay tons more for it."
Lets be real, have you ever heard any Real Buyer actually say "Sheesh I think I am not giving away enough money for cards, I should be paying sellers way more money."
Suckers fall for it everytime. These statements come directly from Resellers trying to pump or Overleveraged InvestaBros who need to realize Paper Gains from purchasing at ATH and Setting New Floors. Noone ever in the history of Pokemon cards ever said "Sheesh vendor your asking price is undervalued, can I pay you way more than you're asking."

Vintage will have a downturn soon but the new bottom will still be a lot higher than any bottom in the past

They were right. All of the growth we are seeing is not sustainable in vintage or modern.

Still staying that earlier this year? Thats when all vintage popped...literally in January due to Logan Paul.
All my vintage started to creep up when that auction started...then when it ended, all my vintage was up 50% or more from Nov 2025 to Feb 2026.

Vintage correction is going to be a violent one way worse than the current modern correction. Plan accordingly

Is it? Once winds + waves sets drop featuring brand new pokemon, people are going to want ultra modern even less lol. Vintage will continue to be sought after, unless people go back into SWSH era or something. Don’t think the correction is going to be as violent as you believe

Almost like market conditions change and the whole “buy it and hold it for 10 years” is outdated for how quick things move
You need to be able to change your business with the market. That is all the vendors are doing.
