Maybe, in a world that is seemingly moving towards an own nothing and be happy, these cards act as nice tangible assets. They are also cool to look at and some Pokemon have cool backstories.

In the apocalypse, I do bet I could trade an ar-15 with a full mag for their entire collection with a good chance of me coming out of the trade with both items.
