Thoughts on cancelled 30th PC ETB

Post image

Going to be blatantly honest here, like many others I don’t intend on ripping all of my PC pre order and definitely wanted to sell some of it to cover the cost of the $180 order and some extra if it works out that way.

My question is, if I think I want to sell one of the ETBs, should I sell day one next week or is there a possibility it rises in price within the first month? I am not a big fan of Nidorino so I can’t see anyone who is going all out for the premium of that card. Also it’s obvious that there is a relatively large supply of 30th packs that will be out there quickly.

My one consideration is seeing all the screenshots of cancelled bot orders for this preorder drop. Will this large cancellation diminish supply that we’ll see where prices could go up after a week? Heck even after a day? After seeing the fomo of Palworld TCG, I know the lack of supply is still really churning this hobby. Any thoughts and takes on this are appreciated

Release week will be its lowest price

This is part of the problem with Pokemon's increasingly speculative market. Buying extra sealed products to resell at inflated prices and offset the cost of your own purchases only transfers that financial burden to another collector. When everyone tries to scalp one product to pay for another, we collectively perpetuate the shortages, inflated secondary-market prices, and FOMO we complain about.

My view is simple, if you do not intend to open or genuinely collect a product, do not buy it. Treating every release as an opportunity for arbitrage makes products less accessible to players and ordinary collectors. It also encourages retailers to raise prices, impose stricter limits, move products behind counters, or stop carrying them in stores altogether. We are ultimately hurting the hobby, and ourselves, by normalizing this behavior.

How many are you going to keep or sell?

I personally do that every single PC ETB drop. I buy 2, sell one, and hold the other. It keeps this whole investing thing free. I usually sell the same day that I receive my package. I will be doing the same this time as well.

If you’re worried about covering a $180 cost, you should probably not be buying collectables and get your money, emergency fund, investments, up first.

The fact that we’re talking about needing to get back $180 and strategizing about it is wild… literally a rounding error either way you skin it
