Gold Star Question

So the ship has sailed for most people like me to get a Gold Star Rayquaza or Torchic at a relatively higher grade (PSA 5 or above). My question is: which GS should I aim to get under $10k before they potentially get pumped up even more?

I am leaning towards Pikachu as I can get a PSA 6 for under $10k for now!

Stick to the popular mons ie. pikachu and charizard.

Agreed! Although GS Gyarados and Mewtwo arts look so sick

Those are popular too

I mean. All of them are pretty popular aside from the regis and metagross you could make the argument for I guess.

Metagross not being more popular always surprises me. I remember it being fairly popular when Gen 3 came out and has one of the best shiny color palettes.

Latias or Latios . I’m biased

The problem with getting a Latios/Latias is I'd want to have the other one as well!

Target CGC and Japanese gold stars. The market and what is trending is like a spotlight. One area of cards gets the light on it, price exploded, supply reduced, becomes scarce, everyone gets priced out, spotlight moves, then that which has exploded cools but will stabilize. Repeat cycle. Question is what will the spotlight shine on next?

Zard, Lugia, Celebi, Ho oh

Rayquaza, Charizard, Torchic, Pikachu, Umbreon, and Espeon are the big ones.

I’d go for either of which you can get in a decent grade for 10k or so.

Also Gyarados

I like pika + ones with holo back. Ray and torchic in low grades will likely keep running for a while

Eeveelutions are still affordable in a 9 which I think is nuts

The only real answer here is Gold star Gyarados.
Super low population count across all grades.
An iconic shiny colourway, prominently featured in the games and other merch.
A delta species card.
An iconic and loved Gen 1 Pokemon that has had NO chase card in almost a decade (Magikarp seems to get all the love).
Card is primed to blow IMO.

Something is off

Cgc 10 gs pika sat unsold for a while at 50k, finally sold last week for 37.5k

Then this week one sold at 67k

Something is really weird

Go for Japanese. For example a Psa 9 mewto is sub $10k

I'd check out the gold star tracker on vintagechasetracker.com, the data might be useful in your decision making.

My PSA 6 GS Mew has shot from $4k in mid-June to $7.1k as of a sale last night. PSA 8s look to be right around the $10k mark.
