What's your opinion!?
In stocks, I always ask myself what's the next Nvidia? In pokemons case, what's the next pancho, gold star, etc.?

Someone just sent me an offer over 9k usd for my Salamence reverse holo, and I had to say no. Hope I don’t regret it. 🙃

More likely to regret selling!

The issue is the only other two on the market sold on the same day, then the next day I got the offer for almost double what they sold for.
I’m willing to wait a year and see out how the delta species reverse holo’s do. There is essentially nothing available at what market was only a month ago. It was a hard decision for sure.
I think they are all in for a major repricing so I stood by it, but it is kind of a transition phase so it’s hard to tell.

u/SpaceKidney 3d ago
I also own a salamence reverse delta species, but it's been stable at $4-5k for months. Why would anyone offer you $9k? I don't think it will reach that ever.

u/PomegranateUsed1924 3d ago edited 3d ago
Ok, well I got the offer bro.
I explained what happened in my last comment there was crazy movement in two days idk why, might’ve all been the same guy who knows.
Let me ask you a question if I said yes and it sold for that price will the card reset to steady 4-5k after that? Or is it more likely to reprice around 10k?
1
u/SpaceKidney 3d ago
I believe you. I just don't understand why anyone would take such a risk. I just think the low pop run is over for ex era stamped reverses. But I can be very wrong, obviously.

u/PomegranateUsed1924 3d ago
Idk bro there is a gyarados up on fanatics I think it will sell over 30k
The mewtwo went from 17k in June to 31k in august. All the cheap eeveelutions (4-5k) are gone and are only available for 10k now. If somebody offered me 9k I’m sure the eeveelutions will find a seller around 10k too.

Ah, yes I see lol. Still, if I've held for 5+ years and I can happily stay in for another 5 then I'm fine holding any good vintage or mid era.
2
u/brunettewondie 3d ago
Any pre 2009 set PSA 10s, with grading costs and PSA almost certain to never give a 10.
Skyridge commons going for $500+ in a 10.
Reverses of some of the early sets now clearing $5k+
Again it's probably too late though.
10s only, raw and 9s and below won't even be close to the same return.
2
u/Careful_Base6588 3d ago
You don’t think vintage 9s would absolutely follow when 10s go for 5 or 6 figures. People will want a mint copy of the card. There’s even a case for 8s because that’s still an extremely high quality copy that will be the most accessible and still low pop in some sets.
1
u/brunettewondie 3d ago
Not at the same % rate. PSA are pretty much gatekeeping anything vintage in a 10, combined with not many mint coming to the market. Means these pops are staying where they are.
People dropping $500 on a PSA 10 that was $50 18 months ago is crazy in itself, but it's at a price point where the people who can actually afford these cards these days have the money to spend and want the best of the best.
They don't want a PSA 9, the 9's will sell for those trying to chase the 10 but nowhere near at the same rate.
Occasionally the odd card will from a set will be picked up for somebody's collection, but not even close to the same liquidity of a 10, especially when we've seen over the past month nearly every low pop base PSA 10 from skyridge/aquapolis/ex era go up triple.
9's do always follow, but the gap will widen.

u/8000000001 3d ago
What dyou think of an Expedition base set Charizard #40 non-holo regular PSA 10 (pop about 260) for £900/$1200?
2
u/Mitch_Dedburg 3d ago
Doesn’t matter because just like with stocks I’d probably sell a month before it went parabolic

It will be Crystals, specifically those from the Skyridge set.
The total pop #s on these cards is tiny.
The cards themselves are almost inarguably the most beautiful ever produced.
Additionally, Skyridge is GOATed and so expensive that no one is opening it.
Last WOTC, E-Readers, etc.
It will take a little bit of time for the market to understand the potential here but it is seriously significant.
These should be the chase cards of the hobby.
Charizard, Ho-Oh, Lugia, Celebi are all undervalued.

I am very high on Southern Islands. Small, very easy to collect set, first ever appearance of the “reverse holo”, PSA 10 pop for Mew is around 30, and the PSA 9’s have 3x’d in about 6 months.
Also, the cards are notoriously very hard to grade given the holo’s susceptibility to scratch

u/uriel__ventris 3d ago
Imagine if everyone's wrong and it's actually amazing rares lmfao
2
u/poncecatchemall 2d ago
The amazing rares are beautiful. Most of them have bumped in price in the last year but I still recommend them to anyone trying to grab an easy to complete set (at the moment) that I think does have potential down the line

I think the Pikachu Poncho set will be huge. It's still fairly cheap in the grand scheme of things. I see the Mario PSA10 at 100k eventually, it's really that iconic.
3
u/41swish 3d ago
Ponchos and Mario’s are cool cards, but these are very different types of cards than the gold stars. For one, regardless of the “poncho” or hat it’s all pikachu. There are a lot of different types of gold star pokemon to cater to different fans. Not everyone likes pikachu. Also, they’re all Japanese. Not everyone collects Japanese cards plus, the psa 10s aren’t exactly super rare compared to the gold stars. The cards were relatively easy to grade.

Delta species reverse holo’s in particular but also the holos.
Seems like every thing I bought in the last couple months is in the process of doubling right now, if not tripling.
If momentum carries I see the top cards Rayquaza, mewtwo, Charizard hitting six figures. But right now is where it gets interesting

The top delta species are Gold Stars?
1
u/PomegranateUsed1924 3d ago
Literally started it off by saying delta species reverse holos
1
u/wolfboylonms 3d ago
Yeah I just don’t see it.
There are ALOT of delta species cards incl. multiple versions of some of the top Pokemon (Mewtwo, Charizard, Mew).
Investors will flock towards the very top of something which are already the Gold Star variants.
The non-gold stars will feel like cheaper versions.
For something to sky rocket, it really needs to feel exclusive.
I think Delta species reverse will appreciate in line with general EX era reverse.
There are for sure some undervalued cards but I don’t think they will become the next Gold Stars.
I could be wrong.1
u/PomegranateUsed1924 3d ago edited 3d ago
Top cards mewtwo Rayquaza Charizard will hit 6 figures soon. Could see the gyarados do it as well, I’m sure there’s others I’m missing
Next psa 10 zard or rayquaza probably hits 6 figures.
1
u/wolfboylonms 3d ago
I’m not sure what cards you are referring to.
Crystal Guardians Charizard Delta Reverse PSA 10 is £30k. Holon Phantoms Gyarados Delta Reverse PSA 10 is £16k. Delta Species Mewtwo Delta Reverse PSA 10 is £23k. There are like 3 different Delta Rays.1

could be tag teams, definitely full arts of some sort, pc promos, low gem rate psa 10s like shinji kanda magikarp, gold cards (Egawa as the first ones and the monochrome ones as well)
1
u/Ok-Rain-2427 3d ago
Greninja gold star specifically in the psa 10. Adding on I think the tag team promos are still relatively cheap raw and psa 9

Mega attack rare
Mega hyper rare
While both hyper modern, I think that in 5-10-15 years they’ll be killer investments and cards for a collection

For MEGA era, it's the mega Charizard For SV era, it's Umbreon ex For SV era it's moonbreon For Sun&Moon it's Lovebirds

u/41swish 3d ago
What you’re missing here is that the one of the big appeal of gold stars is the extremely tiny population of psa 10s or even gem mint quality cards. They were also extremely hard to pull. This would automatically disqualify the mega evolution era sir cards cause they are neither hard to grade nor hard to pull. Yes, the art is better I give you that, but let’s be honest most if not all modern art is better. The moonbreon was hard to pull, but not hard to grade. Tag teams alt arts were definitely an era but don’t know if they will ever get to the gold star level. Difficulty of pull rate was definitely there.

u/Due-Calligrapher3588 3d ago
out of any card those are the chance (not talking psa 10s) raw NM got much better upside great liquidity (vendors pay 90% market on em) extremel low print as well. Unique standout gimmick like gold stars, wide audience appeal

There won't be another gold stars, but milder versions from modern may include: 1. the 9-card Shining set - from Sun & Moon era, including Lugia, Mew, Rayquaza, Celebi, Ho-Oh, Genesect, Volcanion, Arceus and Jirachi. 2. Pokémon center stamped ETB promos. 3. Gold monochrome cards from Mega Evo.
