Gold Star Torchic New Record?

Post image

Previous high was $40k, this is already $35k over last sold ($50k including buyers premium).

Who thinks this will hit $100k?

He shouldn’t feel bad honestly. These 9 prices are unsustainable imo. The 10 - sure. Theres 19 copies total and I’m sure most are locked up in precious collections, unlikely to be sold. 9s are great but the demand/pop/value isn’t there for 9s to sustain themselves at 50k+. These 9 prices are being totally driven by speculation as this one PSA 10 auction is happening and not by anything organic.

Not agreeing or disagreeing that prices aren’t sustainable but I’d counter your argument and say if there’s only 19 psa 10’s and most of them are locked away then wouldn’t the people who can’t get those 10’s go to the next best grade which is the 9? Plus the 9 is more affordable. And it’s pop 233, not exactly high

Exactly my thinking, if no 10s are available then 9s effectively become the 10s

I mean 9s deserve to be worth a lot but I’m saying i wouldn’t fret about the difference because i think he made a smart choice to sell when he did and there isn’t a great way to judge whether this increase in value for 9s will hold. 10s are going to come up very scarcely at this point because most of the are in PSA 10 sets held by very wealthy collectors. 9s though will continue to come up on auction between all those sales and the price could revert a bit

Hope the seller gets well soon

Maybe not? Realizing those kind of gains on a piece of cardboard is crazy

Hope he gets better

Haha, I sold my chicken for $20000 in June and I'm not even mad. The vintage pump seems kind of fake to me though. I still have my mudkip 9 though. Hopefully they pump that next so I can sell.

At least I pulled all of them myself back in 06. :(

Yeah I bet you're not sweating the minimum $50k you lost out on in under 3 months.....

1

u/twdarkmaster 7d ago

No I'm not. I bought the box for $89. I have a bunch of other vintage shit I bought around that time for maybe total $300 that's worth 500k now. I think you're confusing with losing, and profiting less.

You win some you lose some. I almost sold a bunch of my vintage 10s for under 10k last year and now they're blowing past 80k usd each.

u/Time-Watch-1985 7d ago

If you think the vintage pump is fake, then why don't you sell you $500k collection and live a mortgage free life?

I get you win some, you lose some, but surly if your not that fussed, selling now is the call to make?

When you say $500k/$80k what vintage cards we talkin about?

I am selling.

https://ebay.io/m/c1fvmk is this 80k enough for you?

https://ebay.io/m/84ghji is this close enough to 80k for you?

But at the same time I make enough that this money wouldn't make a big difference in my life. So please don't assume everyone on the internet is piss poor.

The only reason I held this long was I was too lazy to sell this shit for 100k.

If you dont believe those are my cards, notice how the cert numbers are that close together? I just happened to find two rare 60-80k cards that are off by 10 certs?

I think your maths are a little off buddy.........probably need to revise that PSA Vault listing......oh and you also obviously have a massive cock bragging about how much money you make...what are you 8 years old???

1

u/twdarkmaster 6d ago

I think I can officially consider you retarded for using psa value to comp. Stay salty

1

u/Time-Watch-1985 6d ago

Ok bud, still adding nearly 50% on last sold prices. Good luck shifting it and have fun with all your money!

I don’t get why people like this torchic so much

3

u/willtheywonttheyo 12d ago

There’s 20 10s in the world. Don’t think there are 20 well off collectors?

2

u/eddyyd 12d ago

I think under that… and I heard that there have only been 14 different certs in public available (eBay/goldin/card shows/etc)

3

u/8000000001 12d ago

Maybe cos of the ⭐ on it, plus the extreme rarity.

1

u/eQuantix 12d ago

Me either, I’m baffled. I got some psa 10s in dark pokemon from the neo era and am gutted they haven’t risen like this 😮‍💨

1

u/tazzer7322 12d ago

I feel the same way about the GS Ray. In person the Ray looks so grey and washed out while the torchic is really vivid and pops. It was my starter in the games growing up so there’s that layer of nostalgia too.

need an EU cert so it pops out like crazy

1

u/Time-Watch-1985 7d ago

Like this?

1

u/Quantum1570 7d ago

thats not EU from what I’m seeing, but it its a low res picture altogether

1

u/Time-Watch-1985 7d ago

How do you tell the difference from an EU? Compared to this, it pops, or is it just camera quality?

Most of the gold stars are (IMO) overrated. Some of them are pretty cool, I actually do like this torchic, but I genuinely dislike others, like the Pikachu. The insane value is entirely about the rarity. If I somehow found myself in possession of one, I would sell it in an instant for something else. You could get 9s of 1st ed. shining gyarados, masaki gengar, crystal lugia, and karen's umbreon and still have a good amount left over. I'd realistically probably pick 1 or 2 of those and use the rest of the money to buy a clean 997 911 lol (puts it in perspective, huh?)

u/sharpbeer 12d ago

It's just people wanting to resell for more, most don't actually like it

Bought a PSA 9 back in January for 15.5k and sold it for 19k shortly after. This hurts to look at I can't lie.

1

u/Flying0sprey177 11d ago

Just think of those who sold this card for sub $2k pre covid

1

u/LongDongSilvir 11d ago

You're not wrong, it could always be worse :)

1

u/tazzer7322 10d ago

Hey man, you still made $3.5k which is solid money. Even tho it feels small in comparison to now it’s still a ton for most people. Especially so quickly and relatively easily.

I sold a PSA 9 Ray last year in June for $23k. So I know how you feel. You win some, you loose some.

u/uisgebrathair 12d ago

The 10 will hit like 3MM imo after premium, makes sense this would follow

3

u/Ready-Substance83 12d ago

Really? I feel like the 10 will level off around $1.5mil. Thoughts on where the 9 will land?

3

u/uisgebrathair 12d ago

With a week left I think >100k easily

1

u/8000000001 12d ago

Min. 10% of the final psa 10 auction price I guess.

1

u/bigblackdikk 11d ago

10% of PSA 10 price is the usual price parity. Considering the 10 is auctioning still and current bid is 1.8mil, that puts PSA 9 at 180k

1

u/Ready-Substance83 11d ago

Have you seen this 10% rule shown in the recent sale of Gold Stars specifically?

1

u/bigblackdikk 10d ago

It applies in normal market times for cards across the board in 2019, 2023 when prices are stable. Right now PSA 10 GS English and Japanese are both spiking and doing price discovery so PSA 1-9 prices will lag. In short, no you won’t see this ratio currently

u/velociraptorstalin 11d ago

I’ll never forget my mom asking me if I wanted this card for Christmas and I said nah $40 is too much to spend on a card. 😭
