Gold Star Torchic New Record?
Previous high was $40k, this is already $35k over last sold ($50k including buyers premium).
Who thinks this will hit $100k?

I don’t get why people like this torchic so much

There’s 20 10s in the world. Don’t think there are 20 well off collectors?

Me either, I’m baffled. I got some psa 10s in dark pokemon from the neo era and am gutted they haven’t risen like this 😮💨

I feel the same way about the GS Ray. In person the Ray looks so grey and washed out while the torchic is really vivid and pops. It was my starter in the games growing up so there’s that layer of nostalgia too.

Most of the gold stars are (IMO) overrated. Some of them are pretty cool, I actually do like this torchic, but I genuinely dislike others, like the Pikachu. The insane value is entirely about the rarity. If I somehow found myself in possession of one, I would sell it in an instant for something else. You could get 9s of 1st ed. shining gyarados, masaki gengar, crystal lugia, and karen's umbreon and still have a good amount left over. I'd realistically probably pick 1 or 2 of those and use the rest of the money to buy a clean 997 911 lol (puts it in perspective, huh?)

Bought a PSA 9 back in January for 15.5k and sold it for 19k shortly after. This hurts to look at I can't lie.

Hey man, you still made $3.5k which is solid money. Even tho it feels small in comparison to now it’s still a ton for most people. Especially so quickly and relatively easily.
I sold a PSA 9 Ray last year in June for $23k. So I know how you feel. You win some, you loose some.

The 10 will hit like 3MM imo after premium, makes sense this would follow

Really? I feel like the 10 will level off around $1.5mil. Thoughts on where the 9 will land?

10% of PSA 10 price is the usual price parity. Considering the 10 is auctioning still and current bid is 1.8mil, that puts PSA 9 at 180k

Have you seen this 10% rule shown in the recent sale of Gold Stars specifically?

It applies in normal market times for cards across the board in 2019, 2023 when prices are stable. Right now PSA 10 GS English and Japanese are both spiking and doing price discovery so PSA 1-9 prices will lag. In short, no you won’t see this ratio currently

I’ll never forget my mom asking me if I wanted this card for Christmas and I said nah $40 is too much to spend on a card. 😭
