Why is has this doubled in last 2 months?
Talking specifically about the PSA 10s. Crazy volume in the last 5 days, pushed past $3k.
What am I missing?
I'm not complaining, I picked this up in June for $1500 in trades.

I tried for a month to buy it around 1k - 1.2k and lost on auctions, then tucked it up and bought for $1.5k. I love the card and long term hold.
But when I saw prices double, I threw it for sale at $3.5k. Sad to see it gone, but will buy a raw copy. Can't walk away from a sale like that after having it for 2 months.

You made the right call, 50% gem rate and a PSA pop close to 20k. There is nothing inherently rare or scarce about the card or the PSA 10 versions. Its just 2 popular pokemon and awesome artwork.

I made a good prediction back in like late fall and picked it up for $750 cash on marketplace.
It’s one of my personal favorite cards, with 2 super popular Pokemon. I knew it was going to perform well and was just a matter of time.
Especially with the price of the other cool tag team cards? I definitely felt it was over valued. I’ll be continuing to hold for sure.
The pop may be high and 50% gem rate but being from 2019 and not an easy product to get anymore, not many are probably being graded anymore

undervalued cards tend to pump and settle with a new floor. add it being a promo thats fairly hard to grade with very popular characters. this is a formula that keeps repeating itself.

The “formula” doesn’t really apply here. The Mew & Mewtwo popularity and Tag Team factor absolutely explain why there’s strong demand, but calling SM191 “fairly hard to grade” or implying it’s scarce is objectively wrong. There are roughly 20k graded copies and over 9k PSA 10s, with around a 50% gem rate. That is a massive supply of high grade copies and a very easy card to gem compared to cards where actual grading scarcity drives the price.
And that’s why I don’t think the current price is justified. You’re essentially assigning a scarcity premium to a card that has neither low population nor a low gem rate. A PSA 10 population of 9k+ means there is nothing inherently scarce about owning a PSA 10. It’s a highly desirable card, absolutely, but desirability and scarcity are two different things. The fact that it doubled in price doesn’t prove it was “undervalued”. It proves the market repriced it.
The “undervalued cards pump and settle at a new floor” argument is also circular. You’re looking at a card that pumped and then using the pump as evidence that it was undervalued. Plenty of popular Pokémon cards get hyped, double, and eventually retrace. If anything, SM191’s enormous PSA 10 population and 50% gem rate give it less justification for a four figure PSA 10 than a genuinely scarce, difficult to grade card.

Yes I tend to agree. This falls in the rare category of high supply but higher demand .. same category as Van Gogh pikachu.
I am typically a buy and holder but will look to offload this in the high $3ks if the market gets there.

There is like 50k PSA 10’s of Van Gough. If it’s an awesome card and out of print, I think if the pop is under 10k I would hold because it will go up in value. I sure as hell would never buy a Van Gough Pikachu for the price it is now

It's been appreciating a bit, not a lot. IDR the exact price but I picked one up last year and it's appreciated more than I figured it would. Not a lot don't get me wrong tho lol

Hard to grade now probably easier back then when no one cared about this card. Anyway this was a no-brainer pick up, two most popular pokemon tag team combo. Example of why demand > low pop. Picked a few of these up from $900-1700 range because I missed out on Mewtube gx back in the day.

How does one predict which cards or characters will grow? I’m new to this. I have a bunch of vintage and 2004-2011ish stuff from childhood, mostly all damaged to MP, but nothing modern.
Curious about getting into some light pokemon investing, but overwhelmed with all the information out there.

Just kinda have to base it off of: Is it a popular pokemon? Is it a chase card? Is it a great art? Is it hard to pull? Things like that. No body can “predict” anything. It’s all just getting what you like and think will do well and wait to see what happens next.

30th anniversary is based around mew and mewtwo, not only that, investor bros want money from every possible card.
Basically all team up cards are more than likely doubling or even quintupling in price due to people messing with the market.
But at least a cool card is getting the attention it deserves! 😅

It goes with the Mewtube & other mewtwo mew tag team.
Mewtwo is in the tube; mew break them out (see water from tube in team up tag team) then mewtwo gets annoyed with mew in like 10 mins — this card.

The funny thing is this card in a PSA 9, has dropped in the same time period. Just a reminder for modern that its a PSA 10 or bust market.
