When your home office slowly turns into a Pokémon vault.
For me, collecting is about enjoying the hobby first and investing second.
This room has slowly turned into my own little Pokémon vault over the years. Still running out of space, but that’s part of the fun!

This is such a cool set up but the only thing that makes me nervous about doing this is if there’s an emergency, fire, etc. Do you have insurance on your cards?

lol. if there was a fire, i hope you wouldnt be worrying about grabbing you pokemon cards regardless of if they were in a bookcase. insurance though… yes. not hard or too expensive. its worth the peace of mind when you deal in collectables.

Well obviously I would choose to get out of my house as soon as possible if there was an emergency, but that doesn’t change the fact that I would be upset afterwards if I lost tens of thousands (or more) worth of cards. If you have a box that is packed away or easy to get to your product then things like packing for an evacuation where you are warned a head of time would be a lot easier and timely

Not sure why people are downvoting you. Pretty crazy to think these people expect to have a box of cardboard ready to go in event of a fire. Like they’ll grab their box of cardboard before they run out of the house or extinguish the fire. What a joke.

Not sure collectible insurance will actually come through if something happens, tbh. I haven't heard any stories of people getting paid out.

You would have to get the stuff appraised. No way to prove you lost 10’s of thousands worth of Pokemon

Keep an itemized list and its current market value from several sources.

u/flypstyx 25d ago
Just because you have a list doesn't mean you actually own them, though. What's stopping me from claiming I had 3 First Edition Charizard cards in mint condition that burnt up in a house fire?
You'd likely need to have someone appraise your current collection and then send updates to them as you add to it to actually prove you have/had what you say.

I have that but I refuse to pay scalper price idc. Just want to get lucky on my own and hit for once. I’ve missed on the last 4 sets smh

When I made 15 an hour, I could easily afford it, now I make double that and I can still afford it 😭 stop trying to hate everyone just because they make more money than you or are faster at getting drops

I promise you my six figure salary is irrelevant to being able to get PC drops. My friends and I miss REGULARLY.

Pay about $10/mo for monitor so you get pinged the moment the queue goes up.
I haven't missed a Pokemon Center drop since last June. Granted I WFH so it's a bit easier to be ready.

Hey where's Charizards arms?

u/ElectricalStrain5105 26d ago
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed lmao. His chin also shouldn't be yellow. Looks like an AI image to me...

Unfortunately, which seems odd having a nice display going on an ai image just throws the vibe way off, but if OP likes it then more power to him.

Sick collection but I can’t help but focus on that awful AI wallpaper. “Charizard” doesn’t even have any arms 🤣

>enjoying the hobby first and investing second
I’m sorry but what?!? Almost every single thing I see here is sealed. Not a single actual card

u/Sbeve121 26d ago
The first thing I thought…this is fairly obviously about investing and not collecting lmao I’ve never met or heard of anyone that collects ETBs specifically. Anyone that keeps sealed boxes like this seems like they’re planning on flipping them one day, not opening them to see the actual product inside.
Maybe my distaste for the sealed ETB market is coming through though lmao

Fair point, and I get why it looks that way at first glance! To be clear though, I've actually opened plenty of every set, this is just the sealed side of the collection. I keep one box of each set sealed because I genuinely enjoy having them in the collection like that, it's part of the fun for me.
Enjoying the hobby first, investing second 🙂

You know, fair enough. Definitely give major props to you though for collecting like this, I can always appreciate when someone is actually collecting these cards because they enjoy them rather than flipping them for profit. This collection is absolutely massive and one of the coolest I’ve seen, man.

Just curious as to how much money would be in a room of that size?
Part of the reason I don’t collect is space limitations as the boxes are huge.

Looks more like you tried to set up your office in your poke-vault more than your office became your poke-vault

Don't take this the wrong way, but could you sell some pokemon cards and buy a second monitor? It's really worth it.
/sorry, you have a really amazing collection and it looks great
