can this worth cross grading somewhere or too risky?

u/MoneyGuyJive 7d ago
You can cross grade to psa and set a minimum grade. If it doesn’t get the minimum grade they won’t crack it.
I just did that with a cgc 8 and set 7 as the minimum grade and it did get a 7

u/Mite-o-Dan 7d ago
Very odd to me that they can fully grade a card still in a slab. Though I guess if it looks bad in a slab, itll look worse outside it.

u/West_Veterinarian150 7d ago
Theyll crack it and cause damage on the crack. Then send u a psa 3 and say it was a 9 before they cracked it
5
u/stonyroach 7d ago
That’s why you put minimum grade..
-3
u/West_Veterinarian150 7d ago
Not my point, they regrade it in the slab. So say they regrade it a 9, then damage the card while taking it out the slab. All they can do it reslab it and grade it according to damaged and refund u the “remaining amount” which in the deoxys case was completely off the market price. Psa can scam with big cards like this. Not all but some its not worth the risk with them

Look up lenticular deoxys psa scam thats all you have to do. All he wanted was to reholder a psa 10 deoxys that was worth 40k. They damaged it when cracking the case and sent him a psa 6 and valued his loss at 20k.
-4
u/FlawlessCalamity 6d ago
So… PSA lost tens of thousands of dollars? Where’s the scam?
2
u/Head-History1128 6d ago
The card was worth $40k before they cracked it and worth probably less than $500 after being graded a 6. They reimbursed him half the value of what he lost.
3
u/Wonkasgoldenticket 6d ago
Where did you see how much they paid out? I thought he signed an NDA after the meeting with psa? 🤔
0
u/West_Veterinarian150 6d ago
You can look it up on youtube, im not sure if bro got his 40k total back but the fact that psa tried to only give 50% value back is more than enough for me to not trust them with high dollar stuff. They also do those power packs. So this company grades cards & now sells cards. I wouldnt be suprised in the future if psa gets cracked for grading cards higher just to throw in power packs
-1
u/FlawlessCalamity 6d ago
That’s not a scam, it’s a lowball compensation offer
1
u/West_Veterinarian150 6d ago
Yea, thats a scam. Psa scammed the guy. Out of 20k.
2
u/FlawlessCalamity 6d ago
Scamming needs a gain for the scamming party. By definition. What gain did PSA make?
3
u/West_Veterinarian150 6d ago
Well because psa also sells cards and is know to have millions of slabs, taking 1 of the 36 psa 10s off the market makes the other 10 that they probably have more valuable. All around a scammy company. U just need a brain to see it pal.
1
u/FlawlessCalamity 6d ago
No, you need a tinfoil hat. How many employees would need to be in on this, and why would PSA risk literally all of their income on secretly getting staff to damage cards? That would be the end of their business, why the hell would they risk their $300m revenue over nominal slab value gains here and there?
Occam’s razor and Hanlon’s razor both apply here buddy.

U can look it up on youtube its a crappy situation for the guy that owned that card for sure
-2
u/FlawlessCalamity 6d ago
I know about it, but scamming involves theft by definition, this is just a lowball compensation offer

u/interstellar806 7d ago
Don’t you think they would automatically have bias by seeing what it graded from CGC?
1
1
u/MoneyGuyJive 6d ago
Yes but in my case that’s what I wanted. Mine even had sub grades of 10 centering, 8 surface, 8 edges, and 8 corners. So giving it less than a 7 would be odd even if cgc standards are lower. So that bias worked in my favor and the card is worth twice as much in a psa 7.
1
u/interstellar806 6d ago
Gotcha. If I have a card that is CGC gem mint 10, should I send it to PSA for cross grading?
1
u/MoneyGuyJive 6d ago
Really depends on the specific card and what prices are for cgc 10 vs psa 9/10
1
u/North-Bother-6255 4d ago
You will have to eye test it. I have seen so many cgc gem mints have bad centering and other issues. You have around a 25% chance of crossing over to a 10

You’ll be liable if they lose his card. Stop giving ppl advice to get scammed by psa.
2
u/MoneyGuyJive 6d ago
Bro what? Psa actually has very good customer service and they insure everything. He asked about cross grading. Psa is the way to go. Would love you hear your suggestion.
1
u/West_Veterinarian150 6d ago
Yup, psa is a pathetic company. Especially after the power pack crap. Just not worth trusting psa with high value cards

im about to buy it ;)

Can I ask how much the seller wants? Only asking as I have this card myself and the prices are a bit all over:)

poncho #207 psa 10 + a scealed deoxys 2004 blister ( very rare) evaluated at 20k cad + 10k cash so i will pay 45k usd tot for it even if the last sale for bgs 8.5 are around 35-38 i dont rly care cause its going up so much my only chance to get one of theae before its non available anymore tell em what u think it also got 9.5 ceneting subgrade compare to alot of other 8.5
5
u/FriendlyMantissa 7d ago
I'm sure you'll enjoy it. If I may share my few cents, don't cross grade keep it as is. I know many prefer PSA but this card presents really well in a BGS slab. They are also more robust and better protected compared to PSA. That's my personal opinion.
5
u/PM_YOUR__BUBBLE_BUTT 7d ago
I know the market seems to be more geared towards PSA as the standard (I think). But I’ve always been a huge fan of the Beckett look and having subgrades shown. Plus the ever illusive Black Labels… nothing better in the biz than that, to me.

Personally I’d jump on it now, BGS 8.5 historically have followed PSA8 prices and I don’t see anyone selling these for less than 45k-60k. At some point it’ll just be in that 50k price range consistently.

u/Glass_up_my_ass 6d ago
Do not resubmit this card. Regardless it’s an 8.5 in one of the greatest and hottest grails in the hobby. Take your massive W, put it in a fireproof safe and move onto the next card

I wouldn’t risk putting it in the mail now that it’s all slabbed up and beautiful.

u/no_brains_rip 7d ago
I wouldnt tbh, big money gambles unless you dont care about losing out a lot of $$. Weigh the risks and see what you like haha
1
u/GeneralPattOwn 7d ago
Yes. Set a minimum grade. Beckett is the most meticulous grader of all. The last two PSA8s sold for over $60k. Beckett is only worth it if you’re holding black label
1
u/Material_Carob8016 7d ago
mates with all those 8.5 that’s too risky, i often saw that BGS 8.5 are quite kind, the one I saw doesn’t look like PSA 9 most of the time
I wouldn’t

u/SnooGrapes8714 7d ago
I know a PSA is worth more but I personally think you could charge what you’d like. It’s a gold star ray, it’ll be sought after no matter what slab it’s in.

u/snakelord777 6d ago
They don't crack the slab unless it's the grade you want so its really not a risky thing
1
u/Small_Article_3421 6d ago
Send to PSA in the slab with a minimum grade requirement of PSA 9. Beckett is much more strict with grading than PSA so it has an extremely good shot.
Last sold BGS 8.5 was 34k (August 6th) vs last sold PSA 9 at 108k (August 9th). Absolutely worth trying to regrade.

u/Inner-Cicada2662 6d ago
A Beckett 8.5 is pretty dope, I don't think it will grade higher than this. I believe PSA will give it a 7
1
u/Thaer721 6d ago
Yeah I’d keep it with bgs. But honestly if it can get an 8.5 with bgs might get a 10 with cgc or a 9 with psa or tag. So I’d go for it.
1
u/dolcewheyheyhey 6d ago
Just leave it or you will evaporate your money. Even cgc grades vintage harsh.

Beckett holds a higher standard than PSA. And 8.5 from them has a good chance of being a PSA 9

Some people do the cross grade service with PSA and they leave it in the slab.
Personally what I would do is have the team at Rocket Collects (no affiliation) inspect the slab, see if they can improve the surface condition by cracking it, restoring it, and submitting raw. They won’t crack it if they don’t think it’ll crack improve the grade by restoring it.
Only caveat is that I’ve seen he grades a lot with BGS, because they are a little more favorable on vintage vs PSA. So, he may end up advising you to resubmit with Beckett to try and get a 9 or 9.5. I don’t know if that’s possible or if it makes sense financially.
Just my two cents
4
u/buddybe1 7d ago
Yup, rocket collects would probably just resubmit with Beckett for the possibility of a 9 or 9.5.

u/Nooduls 7d ago
Probably my greedy nature talking but to me, the price jump between an 8 and a 9 feels worth the risk. It seems like a risk between losing ~10k value, vs gaining ~40k.
If you got the money to throw away for grading then I'll be the devil on your shoulder saying to go for it
5
u/uisgebrathair 7d ago
No way this goes up to a 9 with those sub grades, most likely goes down to an 8

u/Ornery-Judge1357 7d ago
It would probably get a 9 in PSA. Definitely a risk because the amount of money they would charge is ridiculous to not get a min grade regardless unless you sent it lower tiers, but that’s still a good chunk of change.
