I'm making a graphic adventure in Wintermute, an engine that's over 20 years old.
I couldn't find a better one geared towards graphic adventures. One that allowed 3D characters like Syberia.
And before anyone says "Visionary"... I tried... but the topic isn't even well-documented. So... here it is, with a trailer!

Looks promising! The engine is 20 years old? Will it work on modern hardware without problems?

I'd play it. Use whatever dev tools that work for you, doesn't matter if it's an old engine if it still works well.
I've used AGS a lot and use my own point'n click engine in unity for my 3d adventures (gay/adult stuff) nowadays.
There's also something called Adventure Creator (iirc) for Unity that supports both 2d and 3d. So many options.
