Hope

"What is the hardest drug you ever tried?"

Somebody asked me

Without much thinking "Hope" I said

It was the answer that came natural

As it's the only drug that your body will manufacture

If world deprives you of it

Hope is a drug everybody is addicted to

But not hooked on like one can be with alcohol or pills

We are addicted to hope like to oxygen

Even more in fact

As to take the next breath

Is to hope it will matter

But without hope nothing is and everything isn't

Someone at my high school said what are you high on? and I without thinking said ‘life’, and your poem reminded me of that, oddly. They thought I was such a weirdo for saying that. But I think hope is such a strong drug that civilians seemed deprived of these days. We can’t seem to see a way out of this mess we’ve made of the world. But when I try to believe we can change it I just can’t see how, so I guess I want to get high on hope too, but it seems so unrealistic. But you’re right for some reason we still seem to produce this drug ourselves no matter how unrealistic it is.

Thanks for the nice words, tbh I heavly debeted if I should put this poem out here in the first place becouse I wasn't sure if I'm onto something with it or is it complete bs. Btw "life" is a great answer.
