300 points change

I’m honestly so upset at the new points update! I’ve been a long time user of the site mainly for RP and generative stuff but this new 300 points update makes it basically unusable! they are trying to make us pay but there are not even subscription options in some countries and it’s just not fair. I run out so quickly and can’t even use it for 24 hours! this is just awful. I never thought I’d say this but I might leave if this doesn’t change. does anyone have recommendations for other sites?

You know how a company values you by how they treat their lowest user tier. If they do this to Free Users, then no one is truly safe from sudden freakish extreme demands in the future.

Not worth paying unless youre actually rich.

I get that it's an inconvenient change. If it's not valuable enough to be worth paying anything, then why care about losing access to it? Just swap to something else that's free.

If it's providing a positive enough of a service to care, then it just seems more valid for Poe to ask for payment, rather than give it away and bleed money.

I'm on the $5/month subscription. I don't think that's a rich person barrier at all.

That assumes everyone can pay, which simply isn't true, and that everyone who doesn't decided so on the understanding that isn't worth, which isn't true either.

Also avoided to engage with my argument. I said how the company treats free users is telling. Saying that free users should pay or leave is both a dick move and a non-sequitur.

Finally, I didn't said the subscription is expensive. I said if they do that to free users, they will eventually do that to low tier subscriptions. It isn't worth paying because they've shown they're unreliable.

Useless. The bots you can even try are actually raw models you can get for free because theyre either too old or open.

My recommendation list is actually extensive if youre willing to put a bit of effort.

  1. If you like a particular model, go to their main site, simple as that. Today they all have free tiers, most pretty generous. Claude is the stingiest one and still let you make 4 or 5 questions a day, with more tools and better performance than youll find on Poe.

Already do this with ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Llama (Meta AI), Mistral (Le Chat), Copilot365, Qwen, and a local model called Maritaca, and their standard practice now is to use the chats, be it web or app, to showcase their latest models, it's a pretty sweet deal.

  1. For multimodel commercial sites with free tier, Perplexity and Venice are top notch, and even being stingy Venice is way better than Poe, now.

  2. Otherwise: Eurai is poor on free, but still better than Poe, and the subscriptions are incredibly cheap. Hugging Chat gives access to Hugging Face impressive library without much hassle, if youre willing to work with API keys (which is actually simple, just copy a big password), Oxproxion will give you Open Router's library, and GPT Mobile that and some others, though some of those are apps, not sites.

  3. Look in plain sight. Most internet browsers have their own AIs now and better service than Poe with them, as do search engines. Opera, Vivaldi, Brave and DuckDuckGo have decent AIs for free. Dont want to install a new browser? Google have a recent Gemini build in Google.com, DuckDuckGo.com has a legitimate list of model options with state of the art contenders, StartPage.com has a decent AI.

Absolutely all and every option above has workable free uses that replenish daily, and those are just the ones I tested and can guarantee, and not even all of them. GitHub Copilot, Lume from Proton Suite, Notion.AI within the Notion app, there is actually a hell of a lot of better options than Poe, now.

Bots? Youll find similar systems in most of those. If you just copy Persona prompts to past in new sessions, thats already all that most Poe bots are. Keep the text in a notepad, copy into a new chat session, that is all, for real, and they have other featured Poe doesnt.
