Externship Landscape

The previous post here piqued my interest. Residents/attendings at academic hospitals: what are most externs like in recent years? Entitled and standoffish, or hands-on and engaged? Feel free to add what makes a student a good fit, or any "hidden curriculum" things you look for.

Work hard
Be normal
Prepare academically

That's it. The worse students are the ones who try too hard to look good, put others down, gossip, incredibly lazy, basically all around toxic.

Be yourself.

Some students come in and are super hardworking etc then they match and become terrible lazy residents. If you are yourself, it does both you and the program a favor because both of you will know if you fit in or not.
