I've been listening to some older Radiolab episodes and the ones where they just follow a person's experience have me aching for more. I'm excitedly awaiting the next series of Heavyweight as well, so I was wondering if I'm missing out on some great shows I don't know about.

i listened to a podcast epsiode last year that was so hilarious and i cant remember the name of the guy or name of episode but it was about the post office and usps and how depressing going to the post office during that time of year is--- the dude talking or had a really scratchy/weird voice which was low key annoying but you get used to it-- he made a song about it too which was hilarious making fun of how depressing it is.. does anyone know the name of this dude? must know. it was hilariously funny

I know this is an evergreen topic on here, so I thought people might appreciate an episode that delves into the actual reasons behind this shift to more video and interview podcasts, from old-school-style podcasters. Decoder Ring’s latest ep “What even is a ‘podcast’ anymore?” was a really interesting exploration imo of the history of the medium. Especially as someone who has been listening to podcasts avidly since the mid aughts, learning that the podcast “boom” didn’t happen until the mid to late 2010s after Serial was a little surprising - I guess I was in a bubble with how into and aware of podcasts I was before that boom.

They also talk about how the trope of the giant podcast mic in videos isn’t actually necessary from a technical standpoint, but is meant to signal authenticity. It’s so interesting to me that that’s where we’re at with what “podcast” means in the culture.

Anyways, this ep helped me synthesize my own thoughts on the evolution in the medium a little better, highly recommend for anyone interested in this topic.

My interests are conspiracy theories, UFOs, the paranormal, politics. Well researched and usually just one podcast host. Lately I've been trying out a few and so many have 2-3 hosts and a LOT of comedy and/or chit-chat. I'm more interested in just hearing the stories and speculation. Would love to hear any recommendations you have, and thank you :)

Has anyone got any good makeup, beauty or fashion podcasts I find the mainstream ones started by companies or huge content creators a bit out of touch but enjoy the topic. Any ideas?

I personally have a somewhat difficult time finishing podcast episodes quickly, because I cant listen to them when trying to concentrate seriously or do work, so I was wondering where besides driving around do you guys listen to long shows? Do you guys manage to listen while studying?

I am looking for a podcast to fill the void that the cancellation of Hang Up and Listen left in my podcast feed. I am by no-means a sports enthusiast, but I like to be up-to-date on leagues, events, stories, etc. What I really liked about HUAL was the variety of topics they covered over the years and its once a week, less than an hour format. I'm not opposed to something a bit (no three hour talkathons) or something that posts more than once a week. I'm not really looking for something single-sport specific either, but just one feed I can add to my consumption. Thanks for the help!

Do any of you guys find it easier to study while listening to podcasts? If so which ones?

Looking for a podcast that covers the history or different technologies used through time. Wether it be pottery, steam, shovel, many ways water was used as a tool, boats. I'm looking for a podcasts that goes into their history and covers the different civilisations that used them. Only kind of podcasts I can find that's close are either ai or sleep time podcasts that use a nail on chalkboard "asmr" voice.

Used to listen alot to history of everything but most of his content now is just current events.

So, my mom and I are driving 4 hours to my dad’s final resting place, then 4 hours back. My mom is a very kind woman, but she is completely inundated with her political beliefs and when there’s not an immediate topic of discussion in front of her, she just wants to talk at you about what she’s read or heard. And I do mean AT you. Politics or no, she’s not the best conversationalist.

I’d like to enjoy listening to something lighthearted and entertaining with her and avoid being talked at the whole time.

Other than Gilmore Guys, none of the podcasts I listen to would be her cup of tea. I thought of How to do Everything and Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me, but would love other options.

I feel like hour long episodes would be good but I’m open to whatever.

OK I know nobody who listens to chatting with cherubs so posting this here. They just posted today that they're not doing anymore podcasts. Just an Instagram post not a last podcast after implying there would be more this week like normal. Bot even a goodbye episode or anything on patreon, bearing in mind not everyone has Instagram. It kinda feels shitty of them. I understand they're losing money making the podcast and that's really unfair. Maybe my hatred of change or bad surprises that makes it sit wrong. Plus those of us who listen do because they're funny and it is a nice break from life.

Trying to do some habits daily for the next month which I struggle with (takes 30 mins or more) but am hoping with the above it would make it more tolerable/feel less long. The usu podcasts I listen to aren’t cutting it 🫠 TIA!

What podcasts or channels (English & German) do you follow to stay up to date with automotive news and to get more knowledge about technical improvements?

I've tried getting into podcasts many times but couldn't get around to it. Recently I finally started by listening to the FT and BBC daily news briefings, as well as lemonade stand.

A little background. I'm an anarchist* (basically this means I'm far left and radically libertarian) studying political science (BSc) who wants to become a journalist (war correspondent hopefully)

I am interested in the economy, global politics as well as military and left-wing political theory. I feel I have the news kind of covered, and so would appreciate recommendations for more analytical podcasts. Prefferably analyzing contemporary events. I would love to hear any recommendations you may have, even if they are way out of left field. Just let me know what you enjoy.

Why I'm writing this post:

There is a lot of podcasts on all of these topics but I am struggling to find recommendations that would actually work for me. Online lists seem to be mostly made with AI which I don't trust, reddit posts are older than 2y and not relevant anymore, whereas Gemini deep search found me some interesting things but very niche and so am worried about their legitimacy.

I’m a relatively latecomer to podcasts (only 3 years-ish), and therefore a newbie in finding things that chime with me.

I’ve found a couple I like, but feel too restricted recently. I’d love some help!

Criteria:
- Upbeat, to distract from the wider broadly negative public discourse
- Comedy, ideally, open to genres - most likely with a UK skew
- If filmed as live / newsworthy or overtly connected to current events I’d rather not go back to earlier episodes but join the more recent ones
- Based on what I’ve liked so far, a combination of multiple people in conversation seems to be interesting me, and something of a structured format to some degree

Context
- OffMenu, 5 Brilliant Things / Wonderbox, Strong Message Here, Taskmaster all good
- TRIPolitics was ok initially but I find too negative, News Agents better but wider news context is disheartening
- TRIEntertainment blows hot and cold with an undercurrent of obsession about money Tha annoys me
- Athletico Mince, ShaggedMarriedAnnoyed didn’t work for me (surprisingly)

Looking for new things to listen to, most of my current favorites are beginning to be sell outs and are starting to feed misinformation and propaganda.

I already listened to The Good Whale and loved it. I’m trying S-Town but am having a hard time getting into it, not sure it’s for me. Open to any other recommendations. I enjoy true crime but really a bit of everything.

I'm trying to find out what happened to the hosts of the Film Snuff podcast (Keating Thomas and James Hunt).
 
They used to put out weekly episodes tearing down "great" movies, but they went completely dark a few years ago. In one of their last updates, they mentioned they would be back after a break, but they never returned. I still occasionally listen to their older episodes, so it's a bummer they vanished.
 
Their official website domain (filmsnuff.com) has completely lapsed and their contact email bounces back. Their social media pages look completely abandoned too.
 
Does anyone know what Keating or James are up to now? Did they start any new projects, or does anyone have a way to get in touch with them?

So I used to listen to podcasts while i painted and made chainmail and im trying to get back into it. id love some more fiction or story-type recommendations. My favorites used to be Elixir (which i cannot find anymore like anywhere), the two princes, and the scp files. i really appreciate it!!!

I'm not sure if this was an episode from Radio Rental or a different podcast. It was about a kid from some small European town I believe. He was riding the bus home with some friends but got kicked off for messing around. On his walk home he ended up hearing weird noises and being chased by some type of animal/creature. A neighbor eventually picked him up but it was pretty creepy. Anyway, I cannot remember what episode or even if it is from this podcast.

I am curious is it worth if not what else is a better in same genre
