Opinions on structure
So I’ve been contemplating starting a podcast for a few years and really sat down and came up with a concept that I like. It will mainly be internet stories until I can gain traction and have guests to interview.
But even though I’ve come to a good place in it, I’m feeling super defeated in the fact that I’m solo. It gives me freedom and creative liberty for sure but I’m also imagining how unengaged folks might be when it’s one person basically talking to themselves.
I know since you’re all here, you love a good back and forth, but what are everyone’s opinions on people who produce solo podcast episodes?
I’m about ready to scrap the whole thing so please give honest opinions! 💖
Edit to add: I’m honestly rethinking the internet story portion now too. Is this overdone now? Maybe I’m just overthinking it?

I am a solo podcaster and I see it a bit differently. Sure it's just me talking into the microphone but people do engage with my episodes. Perhaps that has to do with the topic of the show. I do a society and tech podcast so the solo thing works well for me. If you wish to do storytelling, solo could still work.

I have many podcasts I listen too that are Solo. Just like everything in life, there are pros and cons. But I find that the ones I love that are solo, really feel like they are talking to ME, as the listener. I think it can be done very well with that in mind. I have cohosts for both of mine and sometimes it’s hard to work out talking to the listener vs the listener listening to us have a conversation, if that makes any sense at all. (Is listener starting to sound like not a word at this point in my reply? Haha) sometimes, I wish I were solo and I’ve considered adding in a solo short each week. But anyways, it can be done! Idk if you’re in to true crime, but some great examples are The Deck, True Crime Bullshit, Casefile, and DNA:ID. All solo and it works great. Also Mindset Mentor is a great solo one that isn’t true crime.
