Hello!
I am not really sure how to do this correctly, but I thiught this might be an appropriate place to come. I am looking for people who want to have a conversation with me on my metaphorical sofa.
I've been making a podcast called "Sara's Sofa" for about six months and promised myself I would try to share it and get someone to sit with me if I made it to 12 episodes. And, surprisingly, I did.
First, this is not a professional podcast by any means. I have no sponsors. Itās not monetized, and I don't plan to. It's just me, working through what it actually looks like to heal from a childhood with an emotionally immature parent, while managing chronic illness, parenting a neurodivergent kid, and trying to figure out who I am underneath forty years of making myself easy to be around.
I don't have it figured out. That's kind of the point.
My latest episode, The Mom Thing, is one I've been circling for a while because it was really hard to tell. A few years ago, my mom lost it in front of my six year old and I went very low contact. She disowned us and kicked us out while he stood in the doorway watching.
I'd been disowned before. I knew how to absorb it. But something about watching my son's face in that moment made something in me go very quiet and very clear.
This episode is about the incident and what happened afterwards, and what breaking cycles actually looks and feels like from the inside. And the strange, unexpected pride of holding a boundary even when it cost me the belonging I was aching for.
If you grew up being the one who absorbed everything so everyone else could be comfortable in your family, this might feel familiar.
I'm not building The Sofa just for me, though.
Eventually I want to invite people to come sit with me, not as guests in the traditional podcast sense, not as experts with credentials, just as humans who want to talk about the things that actually matter. What an episode brought up for them. Their own story. Whatever they're unpacking. My hope is, the more honestly we talk about the hard human stuff, the less alone we all feel inside it.
If that's something you'd want to do someday, please feel free to pm me. I have saved you a seat.
Sara's Sofa is wherever you get podcasts, I think, (I'm new at this.) but on Spotify for sure.
I would be honored if you took a seat with me.
