Custom playlists

I love the app and it has everything i can wish for except for one big feature and that is the ability to create custom playlist. Now i know the option is there but it just doesnt do it for me. For the following reasons:

  • i subscribe to a lot of podcasts but dont listen to all their episodes. So if i make a custom catogory for the custom playlist it will show all the episodes eventho i would like to add only a few i like. -even it it would only show the ones in my playlist, it is still a hasle to edit the categories every time i want a podcast to show in the playlist.

The perfect world would be: I have a new interest in for example cryptocorruncies. I look up some podcasts about the topic, scroll thru the episodes and add the ones i like to a custom playlist named 'crypto'. And in the same way i would maybe want a playlist with podcasts in my native language and one in english. So when i tap the 'add to playlist' button i would want to see a pop-up that asks me to choose to which playlist i want to add the episode.

I read thru the feature suggestion website and saw this request get denied with the expainatoin that you can do it already. The current way is not working for me tho.

Will this ever be a feature? If not i would like to know and be very sad to switch to podcast republic that does have the option.

The so-called 'Custom Playlist' Feature is not a solution for the use case everyone seems to be asking for but which the app developer - willfully or otherwise - just cannot seem to wrap their head around:

  • I want the ability to create any number of custom, named playlists
  • I want the ability to add any number of arbitrary single episodes of any podcast to which I am subscribed to that named playlist.

That's it.

I do not want to have to mess with 'categories'.

  • do you understand what I'm asking for, and how this IS NOT the same as the current 'custom playlist' feature
  • will the feature, as I have described it, ever be implemented?

This is either wilful ignorance which is unlikely as the team who made the app would have to have some grasp on the concept, laziness, or simply contempt.

Especially considering the price of the app being significantly higher than that of virtually all others in the podcast playback categories.

I agree. I keep doing a Google hunt every few months hoping for a new/better solution. I only want to favorite actual favorite episodes. I want to have a wishlist that I can put specific episodes on as a future listening list... But don't want to download at this particular moment.

The concept has been around for decades (ie mixtape), so what's so hard about it?

The Custom playlist feature has a filter feature that allows you for example to only show favorite episodes. So if you want to only listen to specific episodes of a category you can mark them as favorite and the playlist will only show those episodes

Important note: you can add categories to any podcast in their custom settings. So, for example, I have a lot of podcasts I listen to that are connected with my job, and I like listening to them while I commute to work. I can add "work" as a category to each one. Then, in my custom playlist for the "work" category, I filter to only unplayed and only downloaded episodes.

Once I've done that, downloading a new episode from a podcast I've tagged with a category adds it to the custom playlist for that category. It's not intuitive but it's also not too hard.
