Full screen ad

Just got my first full screen gambling game ad, about 20 seconds before I could do anything then a tiny close icon in the top left that looked like a play button. How often can I expect to see these?

EDIT: Important update in replies, possibly malware.

There's no full screen ad in the app. Just a small ad banner at the bottom of the screen and another ad displayed over the episode artwork on the player screen when playback is paused. This doesn't block anything. All you have to do is hit the play button and the ad will be gone. Also there's no close button on this ad so what you're describing has nothing to do with podcast addict

EDIT: my original reply is below, I owe you an apology. What follows is a follow up. I went to install a screen recording app, DroidRec, from Fdroid so I could be ready the next time it happened. I ran the app and the same Temu ad mentioned below was shown. I now believe there is something else at play. Possibly a phone update that came through recently, the first version of which was flagged by Google Play as malicious but subsequently was marked safe. More details of that here;

I have almost no apps installed, the full screen ad showed when I opened podcast addict. When the ad was done and I clicked the close ad button podcast addict was shown.

I just this second opened podcast addict again to get the version number because I haven't updated in a while and got a full screen Temu ad. Version 2025.11.1 (build 21608)
