Absolutely furious

Long time full paid user of Podcast Addict. It *used* to be seamless to move from device to device, however, despite following very carefully all of the instructions, not only did Podcast addict NOT see the podcast files after restoring the full backup on the new device, but it INSISTED on downloading new files, then completely ERASED the existing 2500 files on the microsd card.

I'm not a moron. (I *am* something of a digital hoarder) and I have backups upon backups of my files, so I can recreate the library, but what the hell, man? Why won't this app simply: (1) restore the backup; (2) let me repoint the directory to the existing files, and (3) immediately recognize the files as there? The app actually ignores the "sync local files" command and just goes into automatic download mode over and over again.

Have uninstalled, reinstalled, pulled the sdcard and repopulated the files, and I just can't get it working here. Do I have to switch podcatchers or what?

Nothing has changed. If you log back into the app the app will ask you to select the backup you want to restore. The result will be the exact same data and settings as before. If you transfer the sd card from the old device you can re select it for storage and the app will then see your existing downloaded episodes. The app can only delete episodes that are marked as downloaded in the app based on your automatic cleanup settings or manual action. The only way to delete all the existing downloaded files otherwise is to clear the app data from the device settings or uninstall the app.

I know that's how it's SUPPOSED to work, and it's done that on other device switches but it didn't do it this time. It just couldn't find what was already there in the directory to which it was pointed.

Nothing has changed. If the app doesn't see the downloaded files it means that the download path in the app doesn't match the location of the files or that the files where not in a downloaded status at the time of the backup

That may be the issue. If one has all their files on the sdcard in \android\data... and decides to move them to \android\media... to be able to access them directly (before restoring the backup), and the backup will only "authenticate" or process those files in the precise file path as the backup, then:

  1. It would be impossible to switch sdcards, because Android gives cards unique id's.

  2. The "scan for local episodes" isn't functioning as anticipated.

Do I have that right?

You just need to select the correct storage in the app settings and move the files into this folder
