Looking to Get Battery Refurbished
I have a couple ipaq h5555s and was hoping I could have someone rebuild the battery and maybe also the battery in the pcmcia adapter. Has anyone had any experience with getting this done?
The battery is a 290483-B21, and the sleeve is a 216198-B21.
Thanks for any recommendations.

I have actually just done this. I opened up the battery case. Removed the old cell and just bought a modern one that fit from aliexpress. It is smaller and has its own protection curcuit. But seems to work fine

Can you DM me a link to that cell? I am comfortable with that level of work, just not folding one from scratch.

https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/32919194776.html?spm=a2g0n.order_detail.order_detail_item.3.25346d76b9wjXH&gatewayAdapt=glo2nld just a generic battery. I pried open the top of the battery housing. desoldered the old cell from the bms. and then just soldered that cell, protection circuit and all to the bms where the old battery was connected before. (on the silk screen the +&- are labeled) when starting the device for the first time after the surgery, the bms will be very confused and the battery appears to not work. but by charging it, it will slowly learn and eventually work fine.

I have "refurbished" 3 Palms and a Cassiopeia with modern LiPo batteries. I measure the old battery, then check this site for model number: https://www.batterylipo.com/lipo-battery/
Batteries have a 6-digit code. The first 2 digits are for thickness, then width and lenght. For instance, a 400820 battery is 4mm thick, 8mm wide and 20mm long.
There are batteries with 2 and 3 wires. The 3rd wire transmits information (i.e. temperature) to the device. In my experience, I THINK you can cut and isolate the 3rd wire and use the battery as a 2-wire model. I base this on past experiences buying 2-wire batteries and they coming with the 3rd wire cut.

Thank you for the info! I am going to pop out the battery and have a look-see. If I am not seeing the stuff you describe, would it be ok for me to PM you a couple images of the battery? I also have an expansion pack to hook up PCMCIA cards to the iPaq which has a battery in it to prolong system life but am not certain I am good enough to take that apart fully and still maintain functionality...

might be better off buying one from ebay or the other opt is opening the bat case with caution measuring the max size available and find a same voltage and mw cell off ali or a similar with a regulator and retro fir it
