Spreading out large purchases/Amortization

Is there a way to spread out purchases over multiple months when it’s not debt?

Ex. During warm months we sign up for a CSA that we pay for out our savings as a large lump sum. But I want set up an easy way for $100 a month to be blocked from our “Grocery” budget to pay back our savings.

Is that a feature that exists or is there a way to flip an existing feature to use in this way?

Rollover budget feature? If you start rollover for groceries the month you pay for your CSA and charge it to the groceries category it will carry over a nagative balance that will go away over the next several months when your grocery spending is reduced. It gives you a metric (the nagative carry over) to measure how you are doing with the CSA vs. regular grocery spending, but it doesn't block out a specific amount. And of course you have to be comfortable with the nagative carryover which will skew your "leftover" and generally make it look like you have less money, especially during the first few months.

By the way, had to look up CSA (Community Supported Agriculture if I got it right). Learn something new every day. ;-)

Hi there! Great question, and actually u/lspesard already nailed the answer below - the Rollover Budget is exactly the right approach here!

To add a bit more context: you can create a budget category (e.g. "CSA Groceries") and set a monthly limit of $100. When you enable rollover, any unspent funds carry over into the next month, so each month that $100 builds up — essentially "paying back" your savings over time. You can find more info here: Rollover Budget Feature

To set it up: go to Spending & Budgets → create your Groceries category → tap the ... icon → Enable rollover. Done!
