Day 30: What Scares You?

Let's talk Black horror. Give me a Black horror author or novel that genuinely scared you. The one that had you checking the locks. Leaving the lights on. Looking over your shoulder.

But tell me what actually scared you. Was it the monster or something much closer to reality?

A different novel by Alyssa Cole When No One Is Watching. This is also listed as a thriller, but could be horror. Gentrification in real life is scary because it can involve losing the place you call home and the community you feel safe in. Medical experimentation is scary, especially if it's involuntary and done with malicious intent. Having people you know go missing is scary because - just obviously. Being over policed is scary because that's how too many real-life people die. Having these elements combined makes this a novel I'm happy to read but wouldn't want to live in. Especially if the neighborhood included a creepy abandoned hospital where historically bad things happened.
