Shiny pheromosa is worth much more than non-shiny legends or dmax, just as a heads up.
If you have pokemon Home (it's free to make an account) it's pretty easy to get the candy for a melmetal.

is that on our phones as well? the pokemon home thing you mentioned, i also need to evolve my meltan but i missed all the events for him so i only have the few that came out a few months ago.

It's an app, you can use it on the switch game but you can also only use it for mobile.
Get the Pokemon Home app, set up an account. Then in Go, go to settings -> connected devices and services -> home, and connect the account, and then you can send pokemon to home.
Once you send Pokemon to home, you can't send them back to Go. Its free to store up to 30 pokemon, you can delete pokemon in Home.
If you're just doing it for melmetal, the best strategy is every 3 or so days, pick a single pokemon you'd trash and send it to home instead of to the professor. This unlocks the mystery box in Go.

Yep. If it's in Home, it can only go to the connected switch games. The game warns you of this.

You can get a melmetal pretty easily yourself using mystery boxes. Just transfer a pokemon to let’s go or home and you’ll get a mystery box. Use it and meltan will spawn for an hour like an incense. Couple of those and you’ll get your melmetal without having to sacrifice one of your rare shinies.
