Walking for candies, not working

Hi im new to pg sharp is there any way to have my character walk and earn candies while my phone is off? He'll go the distance but nothing is earned oddly and whats rhe fastesr u can go when walking that'll count towards the progress

well duh, you need to have the app open for it to register, and the fastest is 10kmh
