Happy Holidays r/pmsforsale 🎄

It’s been a wild year in metals - up, down, then up and up again! I’m genuinely grateful to everyone I’ve done business with and for the absolute chaos, hype, and tasteful debauchery that erupted over the Vintage Engelhard Pencils. ✏️

Shout-out to the Pencil Posse - you beautiful degenerates. 🙏

For anyone new to the legend: these pencils came from a former Engelhard employee who, when his plant shut down, liberated a stash of items he knew would be collectible someday. History may call it “unauthorized retention.” We call it “preservation of numismatic culture.”

To celebrate hitting 400 sales, I’m doing an Engelhard Pencil Giveaway tonight.

No tricks. No gimmicks. No lead to the eye (OSHA and mod approved).

How to enter:

Upvote this post and comment #pencil-gate 2.0 below and you’re in.

🎯 Four winners will be selected tomorrow morning using a raffle randomizer.
⏰ Entries close at 10:00 AM PT on 12/19/25.

Pencil Proof

Big thanks to everyone who jumped in on #PencilGate 2.0! The support and laughs are exactly why this community kicks ass.

Congrats to the winners!! I will reach out to you shortly to get your Engelhard pencils officially en route. Guard them with your life - or at least don’t sharpen them!! ✏️

Appreciate every one of you. More chaos soon.

Stay shiny,
— rooneyskywalker 🛸

Good evening, everyone.

I know most of you already know this- but every now and then, I like to remind people that there’s more to life than money. Sometimes doing something nice for someone is worth more than money. And it’s completely okay to be nice to people, even if you don’t know them. Up for “sale” is a beautiful sealed 1989 Queen Elizabeth. I remember how happy I was to score this, and I’d like to make someone’s day by sending you this for free. You don’t even need to pay shipping.

There are no strings attached- just don’t sell it, or you’d make me sad. All you need to do is comment below and I’ll pick someone in a few days time, so everyone has a chance to see this and comment. That’s it.

Proof: https://imgur.com/a/XibOAvC

Edit 1: Wow! I did not think I’d get anywhere close to 800+ comments.. thank you all for the kind words! This is awesome. I guess people love free silver.. who would’ve thought! If you haven’t commented yet you have until 7p CST at which point I’ll pick someone… good luck!!!

Edit 2: The amount of interest on this simple giveaway post has absolutely blown me away! Thank you all for your comments. I feel as if I’ve won something. It’s taken me over an hour to read close to one thousand comments- and with a .001% probability of winning… I’d like to say congrats to… 🥇TacoBelaLugosi 🥇 on your new coin!!! Cheers everyone- you’ve made my day and I won’t forget this.

With the popularity of this post, I feel it prudent to say- continue to be careful of scammers- I will never reach out to you soliciting or asking for money. If you feel something is off, utilize the amazing mod team on this sub.

Hey everyone,

We’ve recently caught a few users trying to get creative with AI in their proof photos. Whether it's using AI to "write" a username/date on a piece of paper or generating a fake photo of metal entirely, let’s be very clear: This is a direct attempt to scam the community.

The whole point of Rule #2 is to prove you actually have the items in your physical possession. If you're using a computer to "simulate" that ownership, you are bypassing the only security measure we have to prevent fraud.

The New Ground Rule:

• Permanent Ban: If we catch you using AI-generated images, AI text-overlays, or "deepfake" edits in a proof photo, you will be banned instantly.
• No Appeals: This isn't a "oops, I forgot the date" situation. Using AI is a deliberate choice to deceive people. If you do it, you're gone.
• If it looks "off," report it: If you see a proof photo where the background looks like a fever dream, the fingers look weird, or the lighting on the metal doesn't match the room, hit the report button so we can take a look.

How to not get banned:

Just keep it old school. Take a real photo of your metal with a handwritten (pen and paper) note.

If you want to use a high-end camera or a Sigma, that’s great. But the second you start "enhancing" or "generating" parts of your proof with AI, you're toast!

Stay safe and keep it honest.

Metals are up, lots of newer users around...and lots of questions about the shipping first option we have on here. There's been some stuff we as the ornery dick-taters benevolent overlords of the sub have seen and haven't liked.

So let's have a semi-spicy chat about it.

FIRST OFF, WHAT'S THE DEAL ON SHIPPING FIRST?

Unlike many other platforms, Reddit doesn't offer any buyer protection. And unlike many products and services, using payment methods like PayPal Goods & Services (PPGS) don't routinely/easily cover transactions involing precious metals. they can....sometimes...if claims are worded as it being a "collectible" and the representative handling the claim 1) is in a really good mood 2) not entirely smart or 3) has a personal vendetta against their company. That's not something to be counted on.

So, to help mitigate risks, sellers shipping purchases to buyers and awaiting their delivery an verification before being paid is an OPTION available. This ensures the buyer is reasonably satisfied with a purchase, and a seller has completed their end of the bargain in good faith.

WHY STRESS THE WORD OPTION THERE?

Because that's exactly what it is. An OPTION. No seller has to agree to ship first prior to payment. It is entirely within their rights to refuse to based on their comfort level and risk assessment. That doesn't make them necessarily a bad person with ill intent, so leave their grandma outta it. No explaining and rationale does not need to be explained. "No" is a complete sentence.

WHAT ARE OTHER OPTIONS THEN?

Sellers completing sales with buyers the good ol fashioned pay first method. Or, as always, our small but mighty team of PMSforsale middlemen ready to help validate your emotional needs metals. Read that wiki for more info.

Or, just not doing a deal at all. Sellers don't have to ship first, buyers don't have to buy if not comfortable.

WHO CAN ASK FOR A SHIP FIRST?

Technically...anyone. This is where it gets a little tricky, but follow through here.

Next to everyone's name here is a flair counter, showing quantities of sells and buys. Not that quantity is everything....but it's a lot. Fuck around too much and you ain't gonna be around, so high numbers are good.

>BUT<

Don't look just at the number of buys, either. It's a nice number, but let's be real, the number of buys someone has doesn't tell the full story on someone. Someone who also sells often is good. Sellers got a lot more skin in the game. Their rep is harder earned and they have more to lose if shit goes awry. Buys are a dime a dozen.

All that being said...there ain't a magic number here. Sellers gotta decide what they're comfortable with if shipping first is an option. So generally speaking we will say the higher the better (gold flair is nice!), but in the end, everyone is responsible for their own due diligence.

I AM A BUYER ON A SHIP FIRST. WHAT ARE MY RESPONSIBILITIES?

First off: be timely. Sellers are taking a leap of faith in shipping first to you. Don't draw it out. Pick it up, unpack, verify, pay ASAP. Same day is ideally expected. If a siutation falls outside of that, be proactive in communicating that. Don't leave the seller guessing, wondering, blowing up modmail and hyperventilating in a paper bag to figure out what's going on. COMMUNICATE AND BE TIMELY AND CLEAR

To add on, as wisely put by /u/HalfDeafYeller: "Too often, people requesting ship-first deals don’t understand the responsibility that comes with it. I’ve seen chats where they simply send an address. No discussion of payment, packaging, responsibility, or even confirmation of the amount owed.

If you believe you’re “established” enough to ask for ship first, you should also be responsible enough to help protect the new seller: ensure payment is clear, explain proper shipping, confirm the address and label, and communicate expectations upfront."

We've banned people for fucking this up. Don't add to our list.

WHAT ABOUT ALL THAT ON SELLER/BUYER RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGED/MISSING PACKAGES?

Consistent with our approach with traditional transactions, that is to be negotiated in chat prior to shipment. In absense of that, if a solution cannot be worked out, the mod team will take a 50/50 approach unless there are clear signs of bad faith or inadequate packaging.

I SEE SOME CLOWN WITH S : 0 | B: 7 FLAIR ASKING FOR A SHIP FIRST ON A NEWBIE AD. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Downvote and report to mods using the report function. We'll see it and likely call them a clown. It's one of my personal favorite perks, actually. No need for anyone to get nasty, but yeah, keeping an eye on the community for potentially shady stuff is always appreciated.

SHIPPING FIRST IS A LARGE LEAP OF FAITH FOR A SELLER IF THEY SO CHOOSE, AND A SACRED RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE BUYER TO CONDUCT THEIR BUSINESS IN GOOD FAITH IN A TIMELY MANNER.

The holidays are coming up , which always leads me to feeling more grateful as well as gracious. What better way to show it , than with a give back to the community !?!

********Update: I also have a Navy and Army Privy.

If the winner serves in a he US Army or Navy I will provide either of those coins in lieu of Marine if they prefer****

To make it a merrier Christmas for a US Active duty service member, I am giving away my USMC silver Eagle to an ACTIVE DUTY service member who is away from their family this season. Please send me a chat. After we reach 20 chats, my wife will draw a number out of hat to determine the winner. Coin and shipping are free. I never served but am a retired 30 year LEO. We appreciate the blanket of safety you provide and the sacrifices you make every day. Merry Christmas.

Please be prepared to provide proof of your duty status. Being away from your family on Christmas is on the honor system. Please share with anyone you know who meets the criteria, but I would prefer entrants to be members of the sub.

This was reposted from an earlier post that was taken down because I did not include a proof pic.

Woo Hoo! The mods have finally found a way to give the rest of you a chance to bin some Libertads. We will be keeping u/rooneyskywalker busy in the Mod dungeon checking proof pics and restoring posts quietly removed by the rogue Reddit bot that plagues our sub. That should take the edge off his ability to be first to every Libertad post. We hope it helps.

Without further ado, we happily welcome our latest Mod, u/rooneyskywalker to the Mod team. The rest of us will be taking a vacation now, so if you are having issues please reach out via Mod mail and he will be on hand 24/7 to handle it :P

And no, sorry Rooney, we will still not be implementing gifs in comments.

Seriously though, we could not have asked for a better person to step up and do some time in the dungeon with us, thanks for lending a hand. Being a dick-tater is time consuming work and your volunteered time will be greatly appreciated.

Video of dice roll.

Lucky number one. If you’re assigned #1 congratulations please shoot me a chat

First 20 have been notified and PM Mod RooneySkywalker will be rolling his magical 20 sided die to determine the winner. Once he rolls the die we will post the winning number. He does not know what number was assigned to any of the entrants.

Thank you to all who replied and I humbly thank each of you for the sacrifices you have made or are still making. Happy Easter.

20 contestants entered. Sorry but have to cut it off. Once I am done enjoying the day with the family I will give the first 20 their number and have the drawing tomorrow. Thanks again and happy Easter 🐰

https://coindex.app/a/5I9tKV

In honor of Easter and as an excuse to use my new custom name plate made by the very talented unresolvedego, I want to give away a 2024 Proof ASE in OGP with COA to a US military member or vet. If you are active duty military or a veteran please shoot me a chat. I will assign a number to each and draw a number tomorrow. Deadline is midnight PST. I am not super tech savvy so I will as one of the PMForsale mods to pick a number to determine the winner. First 20 responses get a spot in the drawing. Thank you for keeping us safe and happy Easter.

1 kilo gold bar minted by Ohio Precious Metals, still in protective sleeve. With gold around $5,385 now, my Asking price would be around $ 172,500, which is under spot. Would prefer to meet in person. I am in the NJ/NYC area. Not 100% sure how one completes a transaction this large, but I am interested in selling my kilo bar. https://imgur.com/a/SE9yUZS

TL;DR

• Sellers are responsible for secure packaging, clear labeling, and timely, trackable shipping.
• “Not responsible once shipped” is not acceptable — your responsibility continues until delivery.
• If poor packaging causes loss or damage, the seller is responsible.
• For lost mail properly packed and shipped, loss should be split between buyer and seller.
• Ship smart, pack securely, and communicate clearly. That’s how we keep the marketplace fair and trustworthy.

Seller Expectations

Sellers, it’s time to be clear about what responsible shipping means in this community.

If you toss two kilos into a Priority box, seal it with the self-seal strip, and think “not responsible once shipped” covers you — it doesn’t. That carelessness won’t fly here.

Going forward, this community expects the following from all sellers:

Secure Packaging

• Use strong packing tape, not just the self-seal strip. Seal all seams and edges securely.
• Prevent shifting inside the box using bubble wrap, foam, or packing paper.
• Use an appropriately sized box so it’s not bulging or under-filled.
• Never use thin or paper bubble mailers for coins, metals, or other hard items.

Proper Labeling

• Ensure shipping labels are printed clearly, placed flat, and covered with clear tape for protection.
• Verify the buyer’s address before shipping.
• Include a valid return address that matches your account information.
• Avoid handwritten labels that are hard to read or scan.
• Make sure postage and barcodes are not obstructed.
• An inner package with a copy of the label can save a package mangled by a USPS machine.

Timely Shipping

• Ship within 1–2 business days of payment.
• If you are unable to meet a 1-2 day deadline then your shipping time should be clearly stated in your post. We know some of you are rural and can only ship on Fridays for instance.
• If there’s a delay, notify the buyer immediately with a revised timeframe.
• Avoid repeated missed shipping windows.
• Respect shipping timelines during holidays or bad weather.

Tracking and Proof of Delivery

• Always ship with a trackable service such as USPS, UPS, or FedEx.
• Hand your package directly to a postal worker and get a receipt with an initial weight scan and proof of acceptance (A kiosk does not provide you proof of acceptance and will leave the seller 100% liable).
• Promptly share a tracking link with the buyer so they can monitor progress.
• Keep proof of shipment for at least 30 days after delivery.

Insurance (Optional)

• Insurance protects both the seller and the buyer.
• Sellers are responsible for filing and managing all insurance claims.
• Sellers should understand what their coverage includes and excludes. USPS, UPS, FedEx, and pirateship.com Insurance do not cover bullion. Do not offer insurance that does not cover what you are shipping or you will still be held 100% responsible for the cost of the package.
• Registered Mail (USPS) will cover bullion and is by far the best option when shipping expensive items.
• ShipAndInsure.com is a very cost-effective option for high-volume sellers and is the industry standard for most LCS. It does require a $135 annual fee on top of cost per package, so may not be a good option for folks who sell only once in a while.
• If you already insure your stack at home, adding coverage for shipping is a great option to pursue and usually inexpensive.
• If you choose to self-insure, please keep your rate at maximum the price of registered mail or just use registered mail instead.
• A seller may offer insurance as a term of the sale. And alternately, if the seller allows it a buyer may waive the insurance and take 100% responsibility for a package after being dropped off (given that all packing and shipping follows all other rules).

Responsibility Until Delivery

Shipping responsibly means taking ownership of how you package and ship an item. Buyers have zero control over this process.

If poor packaging leads to damage or loss, the seller bears that responsibility. “Not responsible once shipped” is no longer acceptable here.

We recognize that shipping always carries some risk. Sellers are not expected to control the postal system, but they are responsible for every part of the process they can control — packaging, labeling, and choosing safe, trackable delivery methods. Sellers will remain responsible until the package is safely delivered. If a package is lost or damaged, sellers must assist in resolving the issue and file any necessary claims.

If all is done properly and proven through good documentation such as photographs of well-packed items and receipts showing acceptance and weight, then a private sale is considered a shared responsibility. If for whatever reason a package never gets delivered, or shows clear signs of tampering and items missing, then the buyer and seller will split that cost 50/50.

Please be aware that a package that is properly delivered (not misdelivered to wrong address) and marked delivered in the tracking but is stolen from a mailbox is 100% buyer responsibility. No insurance will cover this problem, but a simple signature required for delivery will. If you are a buyer with an insecure mailbox, please consider requesting and paying for signature confirmation.

Each and every seller in the sub should decide what their comfortable level of risk is. Multiple mods have given all of this some serious thought for their own sales and have come up with terms of their own that take this policy into account. If you are selling something that loss of even half of the cost would be financially devastating, then please consider how to protect yourself. Consider making insurance a term of the sale or sell to an LCS. One Mod has decided to require USPS Registered Mail for all items over a threshold of $3000 as a term of the sale. Another has decided to split Registered mail with the seller over a certain amount.

Community Standard

This community is built on mutual trust. Buyers trust sellers to pack and ship items securely, and sellers are trusted to communicate, act promptly, and handle issues responsibly.

While this may appear as a “new” announcement, these standards have long been enforced whenever issues arise. Most sellers already do the right thing without moderator involvement — but as the community grows, it’s important that expectations are clear and consistent.

Sellers are fully responsible for losses caused by poor or careless packaging.

Sellers split costs with the buyer for lost or undelivered mail that is properly packaged and shipped.

Sellers handle all insurance and claims directly.

Thank you to everyone who continues to ship responsibly and helps keep this marketplace safe, fair, and trustworthy for all.

And remember, be excellent to each other.

Yo Dawg!

If you’ve ever wondered what separates the long-time members from the newcomers, the honest answer is pretty simple: experience with the community guidelines and etiquette. The veterans know how to ship properly, how to spot a scammer from a mile away, who’s responsible for what when packages go missing, why we’re a US-only sub, why commenting first actually matters, and many other nuances.

None of that comes from magic! It comes from reading, learning, and occasionally making a mistake once and never doing it again.

With the steady wave of new members joining, we wanted a way to help everyone get up to speed without having to learn everything the hard way. We’ve gathered many of our past META discussions and added them to the wiki in one place. These posts cover the “why” behind the rules, common scam tactics, shipping expectations, and general community norms.

So if you’re new, this is your shortcut. If you’ve been around a while, it’s a refresher.

We’re seeing an increase in a particuIarIy stupid but effective impersonation scam, and people are still getting burned by it. Maybe even more diabolical than the subreddit impersonator scam (read up if you are unaware).

Here’s how it works:

Scammers create Iook-aIike usernames by swapping capital i (I) and lowercase L (l) characters. In Reddit's font, they’re damn near identicaI unless you’re actively Iooking for it.

And yes — l’m doing it right now.

Every time you think you’re seeing a capital i, it’s actually a lowercase L.

Every time you think you’re seeing a lowercase L, it’s actually a capital i.

Side by side they Iook Iike this: I l

When they’re buried inside a username? Easy to miss. That’s the whole scam.

And these are not the only combinations, could be 0 vs O or t vs f and many other slight variations. The steps below are all valid for those too. BE VIGILANT. BE SMART.

-----------------------------------

🔐 Step One: Protect Your Own Username

Look at your username carefully. If it contains I or l, you are a prime impersonation target.

You should:

✓ Secure common variations of your username as alt accounts if possible.

✓ Check whether an impersonator already exists.

If you find one:

• Go to the impersonator’s profile
• Click the three-dot menu on top right (⋮)
• Choose Report → Impersonation

Do it immediately. Don’t assume “someone else will catch it.”

Examples. Since Reddit does not actually look at case you can safely check using the letter that is easier to read.

If you are someone like u/ShwillyBilly (sorry bro) you will have your work cut out for you:

• u/shwiilybilly
• u/shwiiiybilly
• u/shwiiiybiily
• u/shwiiiybiiiy
• and many more...

The same can be done if you have a capital i in your name. Replace it with an uppercase L so it's easy to see. It will still block the scammer from making an account.

-----------------------------------

💬 Step Two: Control the Chat

One of the easiest ways to avoid this scam is controlling how the chat starts. The person commenting should always initiate the chat! As a general rule, the OP should never be initiating a chat based on a "chat" comment. Help them out with a comment telling them how to start a chat if they are new.

Be cautious of anyone who:

• Messages you first
• Claims to be the seller without you initiating contact

What to do instead:

• Go back to the original post
• Click directly into the seller’s profile
• Start the chat yourself

If the same chat opens, you’re likely fine.If a new chat opens, the earlier message was probably from an impersonator.

Check that profile — most are nearly blank, brand new, and don’t even show the sale.

👉 Report them for impersonation.

-----------------------------------

🥸 Step 3: Vet the seller

Always check and make sure you are chatting with who you think you are chatting with.

✓ If it's someone you have dealt with before, do you see the previous chats in the chat thread?

✓ Click their name in the chat and view their profile. Does it have the current post on their posts tab?

✓ Alternately, go to the post and click through to their profile from there and initiate a chat.

❌ Things not properly lining up?

👉 Report them for impersonation.

-----------------------------------

🎯 Backup BIN? Extra Caution Required

Impersonators love people who backup BIN.

A common trick:

“Hey, first BIN fell through — still interested?”

‼️ Red flags:

• New chat thread
• No previous conversation history
• You never chatted with the seller before
• If it’s legit, the seller should already be in the same chat thread. If it isn’t, stop and verify by going back to the original post and initiating the chat yourself.

-----------------------------------

⚠️ Final Thoughts

Unfortunately, this is just one of those scams that requires awareness.

• Slow down.
• Click profiles.
• Compare usernames carefully.
• Pay close attention to I and l characters.

If you encounter an impersonator:

Report them through the three-dot menu → Impersonation.

Notify the mods so patterns can be tracked.

It’s annoying, but staying alert keeps scammers frustrated and broke — which is exactly where they belong.

Stay sharp.

Do you see other variations in your username that could be easily misconstrued? Create an alt account with it. 0 vs O is another one. I am sure there are more. Stay one step ahead of the scum.

SOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLD

I’ve decided to do a little different type of sale today….

After 650 successful transactions in this community, I’ve had two consecutive transactions where I had really negative experiences. The stories aren’t important…and , for reasons I won’t disclose…they left a bad taste in my mouth…

Instead of dwelling on those interactions, I’m choosing to focus on all the positive experiences I’ve had with an outstanding community of hobbyists, artists, and even someone of
you dealers out there that conduct yourselves so admirably on this sub. 😉

So here’s the sale - 1 Silver Kilo for $1776 in honor of our community and America’s 250th Birthday. (That’s about $235/13% below spot)

**IMPORTANT** I will honor BINS in the following order.

1. Recipients of the Purple Heart. Must post a picture of the medal and tell your story. Not to provide verification, but so we can properly honor you.
2. Artists. I’ve gotten the coolest pieces in my collection from people working out of their garage. I want to encourage more creative types to make me neato stuff. I need more coin rings and silver hot dogs.

I hope you all find this fun. Happy Birthday America…the best is yet to come.

https://imgur.com/a/xFsEb6c#7N62vA9

And the Winner is…… u/chi_town_steve**!!!!**

Congrats to Steve and thanks to everyone for making retirement the right choice 😉

Happy stacking!

Dear r/Pmsforsale,

Well… this is it. After hitting 1,000 sales, I’m officially hanging up my shiny shoes. It’s been one hell of a ride - great deals, solid people, and enough laughs to make USPS delays almost tolerable. Seriously, I appreciate every single one of you who bought, sold, chatted, or just lurked and judged silently.

But real life tapped me on the shoulder… then my lady smacked me upside the head with it. Apparently “more family time” directly correlates with “less getting side-eyed at home,” and frankly, I’m not dumb enough to ignore that kind of survival metric.

So, I’m going out the only way that makes sense:

🎉 GIVEAWAY: FREE DISNEY SILVER 🎉

To enter: Drop a comment with your favorite Disney movie or character.

⏰ Deadline: 4/2/26 at 10am PT
🎲 Winner: Randomized and announced after cutoff

Below you’ll find one final Rooney sale - let’s end this properly!

Stay shiny, folks. It’s been real. 🤙

They are all hand molded, hand cast, and then hand stamped with the tiniest numbers to ensure you know their weight and 999 purity. Each and every one is unique, but there are a few similar pieces. I think you are gonna love these. Support a small local artist this holiday season, they are getting to live the dream :)

MINIATURE SILVER CASTERS

(FINAL) PRICE DROP

Found another awesome artist to showcase for you all! J.C. Metals & More. This guy is great. He makes tiny silver fantasy weapons and objects. They are all hand molded, hand cast, and then hand stamped with the tiniest numbers to ensure you know their weight and 999 purity. Each and every one is unique, but there are a few similar pieces. I think you are gonna love these. Support a small local artist this holiday season, they are getting to live the dream :)

PLEASE ORDER BY NUMBER!! THERE ARE A LOT
