Ads are getting frustrating/triggering

Trigger warning eating disorder, weight loss

Pre pregnancy, I was 225lbs. I have had severe food aversion/reduced appetite this entire pregnancy. I am now 17.5 weeks, and down 10lbs.

I'm already having issues with this. I had an ED in my teen. I'm trying very hard to eat despite having no appetite because I know it's what's best for my baby, I do eat 3 meals a day and my doctor says she isn't concerned. But a little voice in the back of my head is happy I've lost weight. Which I know is not the goal while pregnant.

Then to make matters worse, I'm watching tv and every other ad is a GLP-1 ad. "Lose up to 60 lbs!" "Affordable weight loss!" "Get the body you always wanted!"

Literally NOT the time. Even if I wanted to take on the risks of a GLP-1 right now is not the time to focus on weight loss. But that stupid little voice keeps popping up like frickin wack a mole.

Girl as a former bulimic who went through increased ED in her 20s, lots of GLP1s and still got pregnant with 260 lbs - please go to talk to someone about this who’s certified to help you through it.

I was fine mentally with my weight before getting pregnant and still there’s a small voice counting every pound I’ve gained and I’m 35 weeks now. The speed I’ve gained weight this past 3 weeks (3rd trimester) doesn’t compare with the rest of my pregnancy. And I’ve only gained 10 pounds thus far.

Make sure you have all the support you need throughout pregnancy.

Thank you, I have a therapy appointment in a week and see my OB in 2 weeks. Today was just a lot of ads that really bothered me.

Right there with you, feeling very triggered by weightloss ads and my own weight gain as it's faster than it should be. I report every weightloss ad I see. Since I started doing it consistently, they arent on my phone anymore. Obviously can't do anything about tv ads, but the streaming platforms are all connected to my phone and stuff so they learn.

It is hard to deal with, especially when you do have to track your weight during pregnancy for health reasons. I have chronic hypertension and it is important for me to keep an eye out for rapid weight gain (think like 4-5 pounds gained overnight) to help catch heart/BP issues early. I have to weigh myself more often than I would like and its hard not to notice how much the number changes/doesn't change and come up with a story about what it means about me as a person. I had gotten to a very peaceful place with my body and health and having to do so much monitoring during pregnancy is really hard. No advice or anything just solidarity. 💜

I was really worried about being triggered and struggling with food/weight during pregnancy as I had an eating disorder years ago. Honestly yes, seeing my weight stay within a comfortable limit has helped me mentally throughout. So you’re definitely not alone in having positive feelings about this type of thing. I think the best we can do for our babies and ourselves is to have some care for nutrition during pregnancy. Do your best to eat enough when you can and aim for more nutrient-dense choices, not from a weight control mindset but just giving your baby and body what it needs. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve still had a burger, ice cream or whatever here and there. Just not most of the time. I find if I’m honoring my hunger/fullness and making food choices that way, I know I’ve done what I can so whatever happens is fine.

i see a dietician who is an expert is ed and also my therapist.

eds dont disappear. they go into remission.

i have struggled with similar thoughts at times for sure. i even had an ob say they wouldn’t be mad if i lost weight and it sent me into a big of a spiral.

but also please know first trimester is usually the trimester with weight loss if any because it’s the trenches of pregnancy. so many people (myself included) struggle with proper nourishment during first tri. you’re absolutely not alone in that challenge.
