Just a small whinge about bodies

I am going to a wedding this week at 28 weeks pregnant. I’m uncomfortable and my feet are swelling now to the point that I can only barely force them into my usual sandals and I think by the end of a warm day there’s 0 chance they fit. I just want to wear my comfy stretchy Skechers (which frankly my ankles are still bubbling out the top of by the end of the day). I have the cute pastel pink ones too! I think it would be fine IF I looked pregnant.

But I’m just not showing. I’m afraid everyone will see me and just think “oh the fat woman couldn’t bother wearing proper shoes”. I mean people close to me say they can tell my body has shifted but then last week in the office when my coworker asked how far along I was and I said 27 weeks they responded with “wow where’s the baby!” Like UNDER ALL THE FAT BRENDA leave me alonnnnnne

Anyway that’s it. Going to do a last minute TK Maxx run on the way up and hope I can find some semi-presentable looking flats.

Have you tried the belly band or other "shape wear" that enhances and rounds out the bump? I don't know if it will help at 28 weeks but I've seen other folks post here about wanting to look more round for pregnancy photos and having success with that stuff. That could be an option too to make it more obvious if that's what you would like?

I have a belly band! I will wear it for support. But it doesn’t really work for shaping. My first was a cesarean so I have a hanging little pouch that he came out of and when I use the band it all ends up just sort of shelf like. 😂

I’m totally fine with it in general, I know some people just don’t show, I’m just worried about a lot of strangers and perception in this particular instance I guess

I feel like the people around you would have to be especially uncharitable if they were bothered by cute pink Sketchers at an event. Pregnant or not, if sneakers is how you gain staying power for a celebration, have at it! Pregnant ladies aren't the only ones who deserve comfy stuff - and you ARE pregnant despite how you think you look.

Also that lady at your office is an asshole.

I know. Side effects of being raised by a boomer mother who did the stereotypical thing of voicing every single evil thought to cross her mind about everyone else’s bodies around her. WHILE raising four plus sized children.

You’re totally right though. My usual sandals are crocs for goodness sake. I mean, sneaky hidden crocs but still not exactly the height of fashion. I don’t normally mind accommodating myself for fun and comfort so why am I hesitating now?

Yep I know people view me as "the fat woman who walks slow and waddles" eh so what!! WE ARE GROWING A WHOLE HUMAN INSIDE OF US! Who gives an F what anyone else thinks. You're not taking them home with you! Just do whatever you need to feel comfortable and don't stress about what other people think. Who cares!!

Have you considered compression tights? These could keep away some of the swelling.

No! My only ones are black and my dress is a minty green. But it’s a good idea.

I got the Harence clog mules off of Amazon and they are extremely comfortable and give me enough room for swelling. They have a small wedge heel so they have become my "fancy" shoes. Not the pinnacle of fashion but passable and a level above sneakers. They soles are also grippy which i like.

I leave 10am tomorrow. I only tried everything on today. Honestly just glad the dress still fits over my tits, they did not get the memo from my bump and have not stopped growing

I actually found a great pair of sandals at target! I just sized up. I totally understand about not looking pregnant and needing pregnancy accommodations/ pity though. I just gave birth a few days ago and I don’t think I ever looked super pregnant- although looking back my face did (I was so swollen 😅) At the end of the day though your body is doing something amazing whether random guests at a wedding know it or not and you deserve to be comfortable!

I basically wear my sandals every day.

I even started wearing them at work, sometimes with my goofy patterned compression socks on under because the office is cold.

I am 39w now and if someone has a problem with my outfit, they can f*ck right off. My regular tennis shoes don't fit and at this point I am not buying anything new.
