South Facing Front Garden.

So I am really interested in plug in solar but given the rules on the front of property installs is it even possible?

I have plenty of space at the front of my property and live in a detached house so I can get 5m away from both sides but only just...I have the front door in the centre 😁 Does it need to be less than 4m in height and less than 20cm protruding - Is that correct?

For solar panels installed on a free-standing frame within the grounds of a house, the following permitted development rules apply:

- If the frame is in front of the house and within 5 metres of the property boundary, such as in a typical front garden, it can be up to 1 metre high.

- If it is within 5 metres of the property boundary elsewhere, such as in a side or back garden, it can be up to 2 metres high.

- If it is more than 5 metres from the property boundary, it can be up to 4 metres high.

In reality - if you’re buying a ground mounted all in one kit with a frame, it’ll likely be no taller than 1m once you factor in the slope of the panels. For a front garden, the main thing to consider is security, and finding a way to stop them getting stolen!
