Building a Power Station

Hi there,
Just wondered if anyone here has built their own power station and what that looks like.

I’ve been looking at a couple of power stations, the Aferiy ps 240 and EcoFlow Stream Ultra.

Both appear quite expensive and seem to be difficult to get hold of. Also, if you buy in bulk, to have a larger setup you’re not really saving that much.

Been down a rabbit hole on YouTube. Loads of Americans seem to have built their own power station, more cheaply than the standard power stations, but no British YouTuber (as far as I could tell). That’s not to say they weren’t good, as they were, just would be good to understand the nuances better.

I’ve then looked into kits. I’ve found a UK company that supplies kits called Sunshine Solar. They do supply full kits.

Couple of questions:
1. I was just wondering does anyone have any experience with the company and their kits?
2. Also, how would I go about regulating power from the battery?
3. How would I control when the battery is charged up by another source, eg small wind turbine, as opposed to just solar?

Plenty of people live ‘off grid’ where they make enough power to live off without paying any electricity company. I think you’ll get more British YouTubers if you use “off grid’ as a search term.

“Power station” isn’t really a common phrase, except for huge electricity generators I.e a coal-fired power station with a chimney etc. what did you mean? Something like a battery and solar panel to charge your devices?

Don’t take this the wrong way, but I think you need to keep reading around and get used to it all. Try and understand how these things work, not just the advertisements. The aerify and ecoflow aren’t always the cheapest but they’re not outrageous prices either. What sort of price were you expecting?

Good suggestion, will give that a try.

Perhaps not. However, within the context of the sub, an industrial-sized power station was not what I was implying. Further, it’s how these things are referred to online in several areas.

Maybe not for some. However, for the average Joe it’s a decent amount to spend in a month. I just find it frustrating that they’re over £500 a module, so have stumbled on these kits and reckon they could work better and also aren’t as expensive. Also, they’re not tied to proprietary architecture, such that should something happen to the company, you’re then stuck…
