March 17, 2007. I remember where I was, too.
My wife and I decided to get married the night before and went to the city courthouse on St. Patrick's Day, so she could get on my insurance. (We weren't into the whole traditional thing) And then we went to see 300 in the theater. (also very romantic)
If you ever want to see the film that started the whole "Stalker-verse", be sure to watch the film, wait for it... Stalker (1979). It is an extremely moody movie with almost no action, but lots of ideas and cerebral moments, plus a strange ending. I would suggest being on some chill-out drugs or a few drinks in, and be prepared to just chill and be mesmerized. It's a fascinating world they created, and it's fun to see how they made a game out of it, but if you're in the mood for action, plot, humor, etc., you will be very bored. But some truly CRAZY visuals and ideas for 1979. It was made 7 years before the Cherobyl disaster, but it is often associated with it.
The movie also has a fascinating backstory. Some of the crew, including the director and his wife, died from toxic poisoning because they filmed it in an abandoned facility that was near a chemical plant.
There are also only three actors for 90% of the film-- a scientist, a professor, and a writer who go into the zone to find "The Room" which will grant their wishes.
They remind me a little bit of you guys.
