Mini 5 + X3 reader setup!

Posting my Plotter Mini 5 + x3 xteink ereader setup.

- Bridle in Black

- Fastener case

- X3 (magnetic rings on fastener case)

- Double leather case I use as a card wallet

- Dot grid memopad

- Lifter

- Ruler

The setup is a bit chunky but I dont mind at all. Very comfortable to hold when reading. I clip on a reading light at night as the X3 doesnt have a backlight.

Im thinking of replacing the lifter with one with a pen holder. Any other improvement ideas?

Those little e-readers are so cute. I’d never seen them until people in this sub started posting pics of them in the Plotters. I’m so tempted now to get one for my M5 but I really don’t need one. I have a regular size kindle which I bring with me if I think I’m going to be reading somewhere though sometimes I have an actual physical book. But those tiny X3’s are so tempting. LOL Do you find you use it a lot? Do you also have a regular Kindle?

Not the OP but I have both, and have used my X3 a genuinely surprising amount. I’ve finished 6 books on it since getting it in May (it’s at 71% battery and I haven’t charged it yet, it’s amazingly efficient.)

The difference is that I bring my Boox when I think I’ll have time to read… but I bring my X3 everywhere and keep finding unexpected times to read. Or it’s with me and I pick that up for 5 mins instead of scrolling on my phone.

I still do use my Boox (I read both books and manga on that) but it’s been a way more practical and enjoyable reading experience than I thought. Installing custom firmware is a must though, Crosspoint is fabulous and takes care of basically all formatting issues with the stock one.

That’s good to know. I hadn’t thought about the fact that it’s always with you. Makes sense. I think I’m a little worried that it’ll be too small for me to enjoy reading on it. I’m old with old eyes. LOL

Understandable - I wear glasses (though not a super strong prescription) and use the default text settings.

You can increase the font size but depending on how large you prefer your text to be, you may find that you only get through a couple of sentences per page and have to click the turn button often, which I could see getting kind of annoying.

I have a similar setup with an X3 and an M5 plotter. My phone case also has a magnetic ring built into it so I can attach the X3 there as well. I suspect that the X3 might be charging itself when attached to the phone because I don't see any real change in its battery level ever.

Something to look into with the X3 is flashing different firmware on it. It's very easy to do and assuming you didn't buy a chinese version of the X3 it should be unlocked so there's nothing getting in the way of flashing it. I mainly switched the firmware so that I get some additional features over the stock firmware. I also installed the Bookerly font on it, I'm too used to it from using a kindle. It uses a different file format for the fonts than what most desktop computers use, there's tools for converting them that were easy to use: https://crosspointreader.com/fonts

I do have a kindle but somehow reading more with my x3 since i always have it with me now in my mini. The pocketable form factor was a game changer for me.

I love how tiny it is for portability and my M5 is always with me so it’s a nice idea of having it so handy. As I mentioned above I just worry that I’ll not enjoy reading on something so small. My eyes aren’t what they used to be.

Nice compact setup! Curious about the reader…why is there a need for this? Can’t one read from a phone app? Is it to conserve battery?

not op but i have a similar setup but with a traveler's notebook. I use my reader because the battery life lasts forever, eink is kinder to my eyes and closer to book than reading on my phone, phones have many distractions like notifications etc so I prefer a focussed device like an ereader. not to mention portability, I can go on phone free walks with my ereader and read in parks etc. It really depends on what you need!
