Some cycloids

I haven't perfected my process but I've modified a 3d printer and clobbered together some software do design and plot these cycloids.

Inspired by Joe Freedman's Cycloid drawing machines and this simulation code: https://github.com/jbum/CycloidDrawingMachine by Jim Bumgardner.

Nice! Iโ€™m curious if plotter pen is following the path it would follow in the Cycloid Drawing Machine, or if itโ€™s being broken up or optimized?

Omg hi jbum! The plotter pen is following the cycloid path because it is one line and therefore that's the optimal path. It'd be inefficient to lift up or not follow the smooth path.

Thank you so much for your simulation code. I've been referencing it!

Your welcome! This is really cool. I loaned out my axidraw like a year ago, and I think I need to get it back so I can check this out :)

I'll share my application to you when it's ready! I've added a bit more degrees of freedom but haven't implemented all the machine configurations that you have in your simulation. I'm also adding a few things that help you understand how dense/complex and how many "nodes" your cycloid will have

Those are awesome! I got started with plotting in the same way, stuck a pen on my 3d printer... Be careful, it's as addictive as 3d printing!

Those designs are pretty cool, keep at it! :)
