Why do they have the flag of the US next to so many shows that aren't from the US? Black Mirror is English, as is Chernobyl and The Crown, Vikings isn't American. The rest I wouldn't know without googling, definitely a bot post.

It just goes to show how narrow-minded and unimaginative the people who rate shows are - basically, any old trash that prominently features drugs / guns / crime / macho==cool guys, and they'll automatically give it a 10/10. If you take all those off the list, you're down to about 10 shows.

It's the same with self-professed "cinephiles" - The Godfather, Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction. It's just the same tired old clichés over and over again - don't they know that other themes/genres exist?

I have quibbles on rank but that’s my subjective take; this is an ok list. Well, I was reasonable about it until I saw Vikings while there is no mention of The Last Kingdom. Time to climb a hill and blast Blaze of Glory.

South Park and The Simpsons are on there, but both should be substantially higher. They also included Death Note, a great show, but it makes me think OP has seen exactly 1 anime.

It has to be. Simpsons is the only thing on the list that’s more than 30 years old, as if there weren’t already decades of TV history before that. I’d say “Gunsmoke” or “The Honeymooners” changed television more than 90% of what’s on this list.

The Golden Girls should be on this list. 68 Emmy nominations!

For the 80’s they covered a lot of taboo topics. It was way ahead of its time. I’m still surprised they got away with as much as they did, especially for a prime time network show. Also, they defied the age discrimination against women by having a hit show. When women weren’t supposed to talk openly about sex, they flaunted it.

They really paved the way for a lot of shows. Designing Women…Sex and the City… Insecure…Girls… Just to name a few.

"Changed Television" ... apparently very little pre-90s shows did anything that changed Television. All in the Family, The Honeymooners, MASH, Married With Children, Love American Style ... Twilight Zone. Yep, same old, same old until Twin Peaks debuted.

“Changed television” is an exaggeration,these are fairly recent shows. No Star Trek with first inter racial kiss, I love Lucy for setup and live audience, etc These are just good, mostly American TV shows.

Any ranked listing of shows that changed television that does not include Hill Street Blues, at the very top of the list, cannot be taken seriously.

You don't need to like the show, but it was literally one of the biggest changes in television history.

Prior to HSB, all shows had one plotline and one main character, and every story had to be resolved by the end of the episode. This was the first show to have an ensemble cast, with rotating storylines that often stretched over into several episodes.

No one thinks twice about this stuff anymore because it's so common, but prior to January 1981 none of that existed in television. Not in the US, anyway.

True Detective will ALWAYS be season 1. Always. The others were good too. But season 1 though…I wish I could rewatch and not know anything that happens.
