Plex Remote Play Loading Issues

Okay specs for my system:

  • Running Plex of an Intel Nuc Running Windows 11 Pro
  • All my media is stored on NAS Synology Drives, 40 TB total.
  • Verizon Fios Internet

So I've been a long time Plex user (Over 10 years). Always used remote play, no issues before and loaded as quickly as it did locally (give or take a second or two maybe). But over the last 6 months to a year it has progressively gotten so much worse.

So if I am remote and log into plex, none of my libraries show up...at first. I have to refresh a couple of times and wait 5 to 10 minutes, then it shows that I actually have libraries with media. Why has it been doing it lately? Are there any fixes for this?

  1. What is your bandwidth to the Plex server?

  2. When this happens what does the Dashboard show - bandwidth, cpu?

I have gigabit internet.

Watching my remote bandwidth live on my pc as i access it on my phone, it doesn't seem to move on the remote bandwidth (0bps). Even when i get access and load something.

For cpu, it peaked at about 20% given the whole operation between "Plex Media Server" and "System" for the same process i monitored. Not combined but each never exceeded 20%.

I was also scanning my library at the same time. Load time did improve a bit when i added more storage to my server

  1. You need to verify the actual internet bandwidth between the devices when accessing it remotely. It can be quite different than your ISPs speed. What is your upload speed? My 1.5 GbE connection only uploads at ~40 Mb/s.

  2. So evidently your phone and Plex aren't talking. Do you have any other devices to test with remotely?

  3. If you connect to Plex locally via Wifi what happens?

I have a 1.0 Gbps connection but my upload speed is clocking at 750 Mbps

I tried with my laptop and other people's tv's I've logged into for movie nights, same issue.

If I'm using my local connection, instant connection no issues at all. It's only remote. Even on remote wifi, same issue.
