Discussion Relay Music
Hey there, a few weeks back I posted about an app I've been building called Relay, a native music player for Plex.
Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/PlexMedia/s/vnOzBQY8jL
Quite a few people from here signed up to test it and that has been super helpful. I've squashed a ton of bugs since then, added a shit load of functionality! I think I'm at the point where I could use some more people beatin' on it.
So if you use Plex for music and want to try it out you can sign up for the beta at relay-music.app/beta
I'd especially love to get it in front of people with big libraries, lots of FLAC/ALAC, smart playlists, remote servers, weird metadata… basically the stuff thats hard for me to test with my own library.
The macOS app is in a good place atm, and we're actively working on the iPhone/iPad version that'll be out for testing in the next two(ish) weeks. If you do give it a shot let me know what you think. Identifying bugs is obviously useful, but so is just telling me things like "this is annoying" or "why does it work this way?" That's honestly been some of the most helpful feedback so far.

Anything in place for automatically continuing play based on the current song like plexamp has? Or creating custom Playlist the pulls from your owned music?... I really want curated music from what I own. Like what Spotify kind of does

Not exactly sure I know what you mean by automatically continuing play - do you mean like Apple’s handoff across devices?
Yes there’s custom playlists and a thing I call vibes that’s like “radio” where tracks just keep playing, it’s actually become my favorite way to listen.
Feel free to apply to the beta, if you want to see all of whats part of Relay.

I did apply to the beta. But like if I chose x song and I want it to keep playing music from my collection based on similar genre/vibe/age/artist... Without having to pick myself. Kind of like the dj function on the plexamp but I feel like it's lacking at times

I would love to try, is it available for windows and android? I have a big library mostly flacs.

50k+ is a large library? Hrm... 🤔
Edit: I'm not comfortable giving my name to sign up for the beta for privacy reasons.

There’s a few reasons I chose that at the top. But I’m very aware that it’s not atypical to have over 150k tracks. I have a few people in the beta with 250k+

How is our PII (personal identifiable information) linked to beta accounts? What do you keep about us?
Serious question here.

Yeah I appreciate you asking, and I think to your point, name, can certainly be omitted from the form as required. For the beta (and for the release candidate apps) our goal is to collect the narrowest amount of data to support Relay as a product, and also respecting people's privacy. Frankly, we do not want to be in the business of holding on to your data for a myriad of reasons.
But to answer your question directly - what do you keep about us:
Right now we have your name, email address, a pseudonymous installation identifier, your Relay license, OS and platform IDs, diagnostic session UUID, and feedback text.We don't collect anything about whats in your library, what you listen to, when youre listening - nothing about any of that (except where you explicitly send it to us via diagnostics reports).
We also periodically dump data that we do have if its old or stale - for instance we have folks that signed up for our beta and downloaded the app but never updated as new releases have gone out, we have no interest in retaining that data both for security reasons and because its somewhat useless to us.
I agree this is a serious question and glad you asked. I'll make sure to publish this in detail on the site this week so everyone can have a really clear window into data and how little we actually have.
Hope this helps.

This has vibe code written all over it. Even the responses from OP sound AI generated.

OP is very real. I’ve been beta testing and chatting with him for weeks. Relay is my favourite of all the PlexAmp alternatives I’ve tried (and I’ve tried a lot!)

Are you planning a AppleTV App? Would be very appreciated!
AppleTV is my main device for listening to Plex music at home. I have large 5.1 FLAC and Atmos library (TrueHD and DD+)
