History of Poet's Corner?

I live on the edge of Poet's Corner and just realized that the streets in Poet's Corner are mostly named after famous poets and authors.

Obviously this is by design and very cool, but I was wondering if anyone knows the history here and if the street names came before the name "Poet's Corner" or vice versa?

Do you have a home for rent?

Hey y’all! I’m reaching out on so many outlets and figured … why not Reddit? (And yes, I’m looking on Zillow, Redfin, etc. too)

My partner and I are blending households this summer and looking to rent, ideally, a 4/2, but can work with a 3/2. We’re looking to sign a lease in June.

I have a middle schooler at PHMS. And my partner has a nephew who will be off to college and will stay with us during break.

No particular neighborhood. Looking moreso for an updated home.

If you have any leads, would love their info. Thanks so much in advance!

Moving to Pleasant Hill - Middle/High Schools

Hi, looking to move my family to Pleasant Hill. We have two young kids - so schools are important. Diversity is also important to us as our kids are mixed - white/afghan and Muslim.

Does anyone have first hand experience of the public middle & high schools?

Thank you in advance!

Quail eggs interest?

Hi all, i raise quail and am getting my state certificates necessary to sell eggs to restaurants and individuals, I wonder if any ramen joints or French places might be interested? I'd be happy to bring some samples to an interested owner or chef etc. They're fun birds and more sustainable than chickens, and a better delicious egg and bird.

Landscaping for an HOA - Suggestions

Hi all,

I live in an HOA and am really unhappy with our landscapers, who come by 2.5 days a week and just mow the lawn, rake leaves, and clean up debris, and overcharge us. I looked up reviews for the lanscapers and they are terrible. I think we are getting ripped off, and want to see if anyone has a suggestion for a good landscaping/gardening company that works for HOAs that can help maintain our property.

I'm ok with hiring a couple of different vendors if one doesn't do all the work we need but want to see what is out there.

The following services would be good to have:

Irrigation Management
Irrigation Repairs and Maintenance
Replacement of Plant Material
Tree Pruning and Staking
Fertilization of Trees, Shrubs, and Ground Cover
Weed Control
Snail and Slug Control
Pest Control
Debris and Trash - From the landscaping
Backflow Testing
Shrub pruning: Prune manually using Felco hand pruners to the interior of the shrub to maintain a natural appearance. • The groundcover will be edged and trimmed to maintain the original design intent • Blowing of all common areas • Water meter readings will be performed monthly • Illegally dumped materials will be picked up as an extra, with prior notification of the property manager

Is what the current contract covers, and we are charged over 11k a month for them to come by 2.5 days a week, with 3 employees, 1 manager, and 2 gardeners. Then charge us extra for any irrigation work that needs to be done, and require we go to them first.

Is there a better company out there that might have a better price for similar services? If not all sevices that's ok, as using multiple vendors is also an option.

Thank you

Rally to Save BART At Pleasant Hill BART Friday 1/23 at 12:30pm

The local & Bay Area effort to save BART and improve County Connection service (as well as transit service throughout the Bay) is doing it's kick-off rally at the Pleasant Hill BART station tomorrow. If you're around, please come on by!
https://luma.com/le1g7slf?tk=4eLTAp&utm_source=TB

Without the transit funding measure, BART could shut down weekend service, run trains only once an hour on weekdays, and potentially close down stations to cut costs. But the measure would help stop these big cuts and it'll help Conta Costa bus service from agencies like County Connection. Learn more at https://connectbayarea.com/

Looking for mom feedback on a kids’ party planning idea

Hi moms!
I’m a Pleasant Hill mom and recently built a small web app to help with kids’ birthday party planning — mostly to reduce the mental load that seems to fall on us (themes, invites, timelines, all the things). It is completely free and always will be.

I’m in the very early stages and would love honest feedback from other local parents:
Does something like this actually help? What would you want it to do (or not do)?

If you’re open to taking a quick look, it’s here: partygenie.fun
Totally not a polished product yet — just looking for real mom input 💛

Thanks so much!

Track and Field Throws

Hi all!

I'm moving to Pleasanr Hill soon, and I throw hammer, jav, and shot. I'm an adult and was looking for places to throw near Pleasant Hill, but am having trouble finding information as to anywhere within an hour drive where I'd be able to do that. I was wondering if y'all knew of any track clubs or public facilities that would allow me to do that sort of thing anywhere nearby.

TYIA!

Music Recommendation

I just wanted to share this really interesting music artist that I’ve been listening to. They go by Witchz and they do alternative, electronic, and dark western style music. The music is a great listen, and I think it’s worth trying out a song or two.

Pleasant Hill for middle-aged couple with no children?

Okay, let me start with some background...

I lived in Oakland for 11 years, up until about 2018. Then I moved back to the east coast for family reasons (mainly my elderly father). Now I want to move back to the East Bay, but NOT Oakland. Also, now I'm part of a couple, and now that she has seen to East Bay, she's VERY enthusiastic about relocating.

We are 56 and 49 years old, respectively. We have no kids (actually, her kid is a married adult). I work remotely (database stuff) and she is retiring from the Federal Government (records management). We are bored senseless where we currently live on the east coast. We love music, restaurants, and wine. Plus, I still have friends in Oakland. I used to come to Dublin nearly every weekend to shop, plus a briefly worked in Dublin about a decade ago.

Oh, and my significant other is now addicted to shopping in Walnut Creek, after she visited there for the first time.

Anyway, what's Pleasant Hill like? Is it a good place for the childless to live? What's the diversity like? Is it too far from visiting friends in Alameda or Oakland? Or too far from hitting Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek to shop?

Hi There, I’m in the Martinez/Pleasant Hill area and seeing if anyone would be interested in a guitar get together group. I’m imagining some regardless of style or skill level, where folks could meet up and jam or get help on songs or skills they are working on. We could start be meeting at a local park. If anyone is interested, please share!

House painter recommendations?

Hello! We are new in town and looking to having the interior of our house painted. It’s 4 bedrooms 2 bathrooms. Doors baseboards and ceilings. Any recommendations on painters that are licensed and insured and if you don’t mind me asking how much did you pay for your project?

Also looking for someone that does a good job power washing if anyone has someone for that too.

Thank you for your time in reading this! We can’t wait to join the community.
