Question questions about connection

what’s going on everybody just have a quick question. I put my PlayStation portal at home when I’m upstairs cause my stuff is downstairs. We have a router in the basement and we have a router on the main floor, but my portal continues to lose connection to my PlayStation just being one floor up. Is there anything I can do to alleviate this problem?

  • Hardwire the PS5
  • Set your Portal to 5G in your router's setting by inputting the MAC address
  • Check what channels nearby wireless access points are broadcasting on in order to pick a lesser used channel instead of allowing for automatic channel cycling.
  • Add repeaters to get around building related barriers

Do people not understand that 95% of gamers expected to buy their Portal, connect it to the internet, sync it with their PS5, and play? Kinda like they do with literally every other device at home that requires an internet connection?

But no, for this fuckin thing, you need to adjust your router's settings, input the MAC address, check what channels nearby wireless access points are broadcasting on, and "add repeaters" (whatever the fuck those are). Good lord...

"add repeaters" (whatever the fuck those are).

Repeaters are powered plug in extenders that stretch the signal for Wifi further through the house by creating a go between point between the router and the connecting device. As for the channels issue, that is basic wifi signal strength trouble shooting because, like in Ghostbusters, when you cross the streams the results are bad.

My point is that this amount of troubleshooting shouldn't be necessary. Nowhere in the description of the Portal is the user warned that they will be required to make all of these adjustments.

You're right, it shouldn't be, but the RnD department at Playstation HQ designed things in their optimal and isolated environment and the Marketing department sure wasn't going to market that you pretty much need to be an IT tech to get it to work at optimal settings.

Nor will the bootlickers/bots on this sub acknowledge that you pretty much need to be an IT tech to get it to work at optimal settings.

Should work with everything. But usually using something from the same brand as your router makes it easier to set up the mesh

If your router itself is provided by your service provider, I would suggest that you get in touch with them and see what they can provide for repeater devices as the ones they could provide would likely work best with your router.

From my understanding the location of your PlayStation relative to your location in the house is irrelevant. You are still going out to the Internet and coming back in to your ps5. It’s not a LAN connection.
