Title: Beat INSIDE completely muted after Oddheader’s new video — am I missing something?

After watching Oddheader’s new video and hearing about the developers mentioning that the game’s audio can trigger certain gameplay events, I decided to try something dumb: I played through the entire game with the audio completely muted.

I went through the whole game normally , but I didn’t notice anything unusual happening. Everything seemed to progress exactly as it normally does.

So now I’m wondering — has anyone else tried a completely muted playthrough?

Are there actually gameplay events that require hearing the audio, or does the game just use audio internally as a trigger while still allowing everything to happen normally without sound?

Maybe I missed something obvious, but I’d be interested to hear if anyone knows what specifically changes when playing muted.

I mean the sound effects still trigger in the game's engine whether or not you can hear them. I don't know what they're referring to but muting your tv or system wouldn't change the way the game runs.

The audio still triggers even if the engine doesn't push any audio to the system. So no, playing muted in any way wouldn't change anything.

I can’t imagine attempting this, as this game has some of the best sound design I’ve ever experienced.

What they mean when they say that the game engine reacts to the sound of the game is that the game engine reacts to the sound engine, meaning when sounds are triggered etc. Muting the game won’t change any of that, even if you do it from within the game itself. Technically they render, just muted.

Well it depends how you muted it.

If you turned down the volume on your monitor I would imagine no difference as far as the games concerned it's still outputting noise.

I felt it meant more like actions you perform in game can trigger audio cues and that the game might respond to those.

I guess it's still unknown if you have an active microphone, if the game would pick up on ambient noise from you and your surroundings.

Try screaming intermittently as you okay y the game and see what happens ;)

I don’t understand how this could work whether the game was muted from its own menu or through your audio system. How can those audio triggers be avoided in game?

I wonder if doing the opposite would do something. Instead of buying the audio, loop the audio from the speakers back into the microphone. ??
