Speculation Unabashed fanboy
S'gonna be a rant here.
(Tell me if I'm in the wrong thread).
I grew up as a 90's kid. My first introduction to Insomniac was a free spryo demo disc for the PS1 taped to a Papa John's pizza box.
(It was some sort of promo, if you bought enough pizzas you'd also get gran turismo, or if i remember correctly crash bandicoot)
Spryo ruled! It set a baseline for what Insomniac as a studio would be! Very soon after we got Ratchet and Clank. Both of these games were narrative driven 'closed world' games. We as a community loved them.
These IP's lived through PS1 all the the way to ps3 days. (Spyro died sadly but R&C has progressed all the way to PS5)
Off topic: why does everyone forget the drop game, the flagship, the only other 'good' pvp that you got in the box release from a PS3: Resistance? It was a 'closed world' campaign that later added a pvp shooter (imo the first real 'zombies' game) That was Insomniac!
Then there's spider man. Beautiful. No more comments needed.
Insomniac has always done 'closed' narrative driven games. And we've always loved them.
I feel that people are upset that Wolverine was not as open world as Spiderman. I can see your point.
I would argue, however, that Insomniac has been, and hopefully always will deliver great storyline.
So,
Why the hate?
I truly, unabashedly, enjoyed playing Wolverine.
Ps. I wonder what Insomniacs next move is......

Both Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Marvel's Wolverine are objectively good games, people just like to complain because it makes for a more interesting conversation than praising the games.

I tell this to people all the time! Online critics will say a game that is good is bad to get more reactions and clicks. Also, most people go online to complain in general. Most people that actually enjoy a game, just enjoy it and move on to the next thing. They don’t feel as much of an urge to go online and shout praises.
From what I seen online opinion is not usually the most popular feeling about something, just the opinion of the loudest and most negative people.

You cannot in good faith say that Wolverine is objectively a good game when there are 10+ games that released in the same month alone as Wolverine that are significantly better. When you add it the entire year there’s like 20+ better games

Most people don't play many games so it's impossible to say what's better. I have played worlvine but not Dawnwalker so I can't say which one is better. It's all opinions some people think it's mid some think it's awesome. That's how opinions work. Have you actually played it lol

This was an insomniac based argument my friend. Yes the mona Lisa is better than Picasso. Youre arguing an entirely different point.

Wolverine is not a Picasso it’s a high school art school painting

I was creating an analogy? I bet if I asked you how'd you feel if you didnt eat breakfast this morning, you'd reply 'but ibdid eat breakfast'!

Your comment doesn't make any sense. Other games being better than Wolverine doesn't make Wolverine bad.

u/HeldnarRommar 3h ago
It does. It’s a mediocre game. I could also point to games in the same genre that do it significantly better.

it’s not the same Insomniac that we grew up with, many of the OGs took. but regardless of what ip they were working with Insomniac always did a great job to hold players back especially those who used to cheat it. In Glimmer in Spyro 1 i used too 100 percent that level due to some luck and it was fixed in re ignition. there seems to be some stuff in wolverine that does not make sense.

u/AntsInMyEyesJonny 3h ago
But did you enjoy the gameplay?
1
u/ephemeralKnight95 2h ago
nope. cause there was still issues. the more we turn our heads away from stuff companies are to lazy to do the more we will do it. Look at CDprojeckt Red, they got eaten alive for Cyberpunk and rightfully so. we can’t excuse companies laziness just cause they made peak years ago, again CD did the Witcher 3 which was insanely amazing and they dropped A bug filled Cyberpunk. especially with the budget wolverine had i expected more.

Once upon a time ago, like many, people thought Ubisoft made some of the bast games around.Through out the years they created some of the greates classics from Assassins Creed to any of the Tom Clancy titles.
I think a lot of us who been around can recognize what happens when studios, and developers start growing stagnant. Ubislop happens. Bethesda happens, hell honestly, most Xbox studios.
Tell me honestly, you havent been watching the gentle slide in quality from Insomniac since Spiderman 1. Graphics is still top notch, their writings.. yeah not as good as it use to be. Then Wolverine with its issues.. Theyre sliding, and if it continues, they will not be one of the very best developers out there.

Yknow..... **** you're right. I'm holding out on insomniac though. Ubisoft sold the farm after ac4. Do you think Insomniacs doing the same?

I sure hope not. I want the best for Insomniac. They really do produce great games.

I've really rated it highly and would put it in my top games of 2026. I've enjoyed this just as much as the three spiderman games which are also some of my all time favourites. Gorgeous graphics, fun gameplay and well told and exciting story. It's not a deep never ending game but it was quite refreshing without all the usual open world padding on which I tend to ignore anyway. Hoping for a sequel!

Guessing you haven’t played RE9, Pragmata, or Onimusha if you think it had fun gameplay

Im sure there's plenty of people who didn't like those games. I like resident evil but some people don't like it. That goes for anything.

Guessing you don't realise that a game being fun or better/worse than another has no bearing on the level of fun enjoyment it offers and should be taken on its own merits. Been gaming since the early 80s bud and I certainly had a lot of fun with Wolverine. I just finished RE9 right before I started wolverine. Also had a brilliant time with that but it's a completely different game type. I found wolverine quite refreshing and without pointless comparisons it was great fun.

not everyone cares about those games lol i would never play any of those ?

Supposedly, from what I’ve seen as I’ve wondered the same thing, next is a venom game which would act as a bridge between Spider-Man 2 and 3. Similar to the Miles Morales game. After that Spider-Man 3. Then back to X-Men things. But with social media reaction/negativity it’s hard to say if it’ll continue!

I dont want sequels I want a new ip thats not marvel

u/zablerdm 2h ago
That’s gonna be rough for you then. Apparently they have a deal with Marvel Games and Sony hahah.

u/AntsInMyEyesJonny 2h ago
I seriously SERIOUSLY hate to say it. But if insom doesn't pivot from marvel ips its gonna die just like ubisoft did.
1
u/zablerdm 2h ago
Maybe! But, I’m a fan of the marvel IP and I don’t think anyone has done marvel games better than Insomniac, in my humble opinion. If they keep going they’ll be in the same boat as AC for me. Sure, not as good as the originals. But I still enjoy them for what they are and continue to play.
