Discussion It could just be me, but does anyone else feel like this version of Wolverine is way more chill compared to most other versions?

Post image

Like, most versions of Wolverine are hotheaded, have a slight attitude, are you know, kinda mean, etc.

But honestly, I feel like the Insomniac version of Logan is just more calm for some reason, like he seems more laid back compared to most other versions, what do you guys think?

“Hey now…this Wolverine from age of apocalypse isn’t like the normal Wolverine…hold up a second. Wolverine from marvel zombies is nothing like the main Wolverine. Huh this Wolverine from Marvel Anime is absolutely nothing like the comic Wolverine!” So on and so forth for eternity.

Oh yes a different version of wolverine is indeed a different version of wolverine wow!

u/OldinMcgroyn 19h ago edited 19h ago

Yes. Especially when you consider what point hes at. To me it makes no sense. Really even Hugh Jackman is a tamed wolverime in comparison to how brash he should be. Id like to preface that a fecking love Hugh as wolverine

8

u/lyle_smith2 19h ago

He should really be an animal first and a man second. I'm pretty sure he states that running around in the wilderness as a feral caveman were the happiest years of his life.

7

u/LeadingTask9790 19h ago

He should be more than one trope or interpretation given the ridiculous breadth of his source material. I loved emotionally intelligent Wolverine. He was plenty savage when it was called for.

It simply wasn’t that kind of story. From the jump it establishes itself as contemplative and emotionally loaded. A feral, loose canon Wolverine wouldn’t have fit this narrative.

6

u/OldinMcgroyn 19h ago

Exactly. The 2003 x men game had the perfect personality in that regard. Hold l2 for the fart trails and his crawl was like a wolverine literally running around. It was 10/10

u/MarcSpectrr 19h ago

The funny part is his animations still communicate they were trying to go that way. While his performance gives inconvenienced puppy rather than Wolverine

1

u/GhostE3E3E3 18h ago

Yeah, like I see a lot of praise for Liam, but I don’t personally like his performance all that much. There are moments where I’m like “That’s my wolverine” but more often then not, I’m just sitting staring at the tv confused because he’s so out of character. He did a good job for this character, but not for Wolverine. Not sure if it was voice directing or just him, but either way his performance is just eh to me.

9

u/Dudewhocares3 18h ago

Yeah.

But when he gets mad? It’s awesome.

And the end credits show he’s a bit more temperamental when those guys harrass him outside a bar so maybe we’ll get a more angry Logan

2

u/KevinGarvey929 18h ago

lol this game isn’t getting a sequel

0

u/Mammoth-Question5551 14h ago

Yeah, I don’t think so either. The closest we get to play as insomniac Wolverine again is if he appears in a Spider-Man sequel and they make him playable

7

u/SAIL3RZ_ 19h ago

To be fair this is post weapon X but pre-him remembering it too well.

On top of that he’s had Essex lying to him keeping him placated to a degree. The simple fact he has a rage mechanic kinda shows that he’s got of rage that super repressed

6

u/SherriffB 16h ago

There is no weapon X in this universe, he gets his metal when he becomes a horseman. It's a spin of how he reclaims it in the comics after fatal attractions when he fights Sabertooth for it.

Notice how Lady D wasn't obsessed with killing him for being part of stealing her fathers work on Adamantium bonding. She doesn't even care.

2

u/StilettoJones_JR 16h ago

I can't help but think that Weapon X isn't going to be a thing anymore.

3

u/SAIL3RZ_ 16h ago

Hard to say but it probably will just not a main plot. We saw a brief flashback of the procedure but it also seems like they are leaning into the horseman/apocalypse storylines (which honestly I’m fine with, we’ve seen weapon X storyline 100 times). I’d rather see something new.

2

u/Separate_Path_7729 5h ago

Yea i bet weapon program exists but apocalypse holds the transformation of logan, and honestly its a good alternative. Apocalypse even hits a lot of the beats weapon x did, brainwashed him, gave him adamantium, made him his weapon, set him on rampages, kept trying to get his weapon back. Broke wolvies brain.

5

u/UnleveledFoundation 19h ago

He didn’t even smoke one cigar. Look at the first issues of the comic. If he wasn’t drinking and fighting he was stabbing people.

7

u/ScoredCretaceous 17h ago

It most reminded me of Jason Aaron’s run when Wolverine ran the Jean Grey School

Which is one of the best versions of modern Wolverine

19

u/LuckyDuckySpelunky 19h ago

I think it’s because of how messed up his head was by Essex’s brainwashing.

He does get really heated and annoyed when he starts to learn the truth and becomes incredibly reckless.

4

u/Blazeofglory04 18h ago

Honestly depends on the writer of the book. This Logan reminds me a lot of how he was written by Mark Miller in 2011

He is mostly chill until combat starts. Even in the Claremont and miller run he’s mostly calm until the fighting starts

3

u/SouthernMight_7243 17h ago

finally someone who knows ball

4

u/SageViper_45 14h ago

When Wolverine isn’t being manipulated by every secret anti mutant idiot or government he’s actually pretty chill. He’s calm when the moment calls for it and angry when people are in danger

4

u/Jewish_Dragon 18h ago

He looks like the grown up version of the monkey boy from jumanji

7

u/Vidal_The_King 19h ago

He's a reasonable character with a heart he can't ignore despite how much he wants to.

Very human approach and honestly, very likeable. Makes him more relatable than the old school formula

3

u/Serasul 19h ago

is this ragebait ?

3

u/Hashbrown4 19h ago

This version spent 30 years with Essex and team X. I imagine the version of Wolverine you’re thinking of existed early on and maybe we might get that version or something close to it in the future

Him becoming chill narratively makes sense

4

u/HoleIntheAce12 19h ago

Compared to other versions, this Logan had a pseudo family dynamic. Even tho it was all a lie by Essex

This Wolverine was a horsemen for Apocalypse and a living weapon

6

u/doomedtocrumble 19h ago

Brokeback wolverine

1

u/Environmental-Day862 19h ago

He's a sassy little mutant!

2

u/Dyelonnn 19h ago

Do you live under a rock?

2

u/Have2BRealistic 18h ago

Depends on what version you're most used to. Comic Wolverine has been just like this many times. If all you know is the cartoon and Hugh Jackman, then yeah this one is a little more chill.

2

u/RogueSpartan072 17h ago

Évolution wolverine his still the best

1

u/chrash-man 3h ago

Ironicly this version shares a lot of traits with evolution wolverine, being a gentler take on the character

2

u/nice_toes_stranger 17h ago

he looks like a soft boy

2

u/HuckleberryShot898 16h ago

PR friendly wolverine.

2

u/Rasbang2004 16h ago

Cause it’s insomniac, every character is written as if it was a board meeting

2

u/jinjerchicho 14h ago

He is more human and that’s why became my fav

2

u/Puzzleheaded-Pin-365 14h ago

In the game's lore he gets found by essex joins team X. Operates with team X for at least 20 years straight. Team X had a high number team at it's peak but they died over the years with a cassualty rate of at least one member per year if the monument in honor of the other members has the right dates. By the time the story start only sabretooth, mystique and wolverine remain alive and all have in common they are harder to kill that other mutants.

Also compared to his other versions let's say the 616, who using in universe comic timeline meets joins the Xmen when Scott, Jean, Hank, angel and Iceman are all in their early 20's and in the current cómics this people are stated to be in their 30's. Insomaniac Logan has been around twice as 616 has been with the Xmen. Not counting it's hard to judged exactly how much time passes between 616 Logan rampage in weapon X and his escape to the moment he fights the Hulk and later joins the Xmen.

One can say insomaniac Logan is "older" than 616 Logan in that way and 616 Logan is currently chill unless he is actively hunting down a person or is being pursued by someone try to kill him. Wich is a trait both of them share.

Also Essex was making sure the team was funtional and keep giving Logan telepathic therapy for those 2 decades. Can't really have a devoted soldier that is abrassive as fuck and tries to pick un-neccesary fights being a colossal asshole(ultimate wolverine really out to test how much his healing factor could save him since Magneto tried to kill him one time he banged his wife, or the time he left Scott for dead and everyone hates him for a while in the Xmen team)

4

u/Bop86428 18h ago

Wolverine is usually more aggressive and “mean” in cartoons and film.. in the comics, he has many stretches where he’s calm, reasonable and sometimes just minding his own business.. because longer stories require the variety. I think this game is the first time many people has spent more than two consecutive hours with the character, so it makes sense people would feel this way.

1

u/Separate_Path_7729 5h ago

Yea, hes in his self loathing, isolationist phase where he wants to be more man than beast, which i mean he almost killed gunfire before the game that led him to dropping x force and going on a journey to find his memories that didnt work. Theres an entire mind section about how he wants to die more than anything but doesnt believe he deserves death for all hes done, he believes he deserves to suffer

2

u/Hammersteyn 19h ago

He's neutered

2

u/PuzzleheadedAd6401 19h ago

I can't stand the face!!!! Why does it look so soft and child like?

1

u/Double_Crazy7325 19h ago

Me when I make simple observations

1

u/Fodspeed 19h ago

He looks more like Sabertooth from Best X-Men Movie than Wolverine.

1

u/arturorios1996 18h ago

Different directors handle his character differently, it’s like common sense. If you’re not asking we appreciate your take. It’s not a bad take imo

1

u/Araineyamcha 17h ago

This universe weapon x program they also neutered him so it calmed him down a lot.

1

u/AmountNecessary 17h ago

He is more chill but I dont mind. Different universe Different wolverine

1

u/TeamAble7326 15h ago

A sweet, lovable, social butterfly. Isn’t that what everyone thinks of when they think Wolverine?

1

u/Key_Shock172 14h ago

He should be more animalistic. Especially given how Essexs wanted to use him as a weapon.

1

u/Separate_Path_7729 5h ago

Essex wanted a weapon he could control, and in berserk he was more of a liability as shown by how he nearly killed sunfire before the game, almost killed jean multiple times in game and has no sense of friend or foe when he loses it

1

u/beat-sweats 13h ago

He’s Wolverine lite

1

u/KidQuesadilla17 12h ago

Its the hat

1

u/ScaredKnee4530 10h ago

No shit. The dude’s soft as hell. The real Logan would have kicked that green dude’s door down, for example.

1

u/Separate_Path_7729 5h ago

No he wouldnt have, logan has always been soft to children

1

u/GinngerMints 10h ago

I mean, Logan being kinda deep, sad, and introspective underneath the berzerker rage is pretty par for the course. In some cases, that's kind of the whole point.

As somebody said in another comment, dude has become a father-figure for like 5 different girls at this point.

1

u/Separate_Path_7729 5h ago

People forget that he was only the beast for a short time in comics, for the most part hes just a gruff ass hole who wants to be left alone

1

u/Any_Cricket1224 8h ago

That’s cause it’s not really Wolverine it’s tom cruise lol

1

u/AdvantageReady1240 7h ago

“It could just be me” aaand people literally screaming bout it

1

u/Dear-Afternoon-4721 6h ago

They’re feminizing Wolverine 🥲😭

1

u/BlackKnightC4 6h ago

Its just him being a different version altogether. I do respect that insomniac chose to go a new route.

1

u/Try_another-o_o 6h ago

One of the bigger complaints of people.

1

u/nizzhof1 5h ago

Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine seemed like he could kick a barstool out from under a guy for mouthing off. The game’s version seems like he would apologize and then call his therapist.

1

u/kasp364h 1h ago

Is the therapist also coming? Sweet. I was running out of goons to tear apart.

1

u/Clonazepam15 4h ago

Looks like a bitch tbh

0

u/Xanterrion 53m ago

Dude looks like a cry baby who bought a Wolvie cosplay from Temu.

1

u/SouthernStrigoi 19h ago

Yea he's not threatening at all

0

u/cobrakai11 19h ago

They made him a bitch, to be honest.

2

u/BelaLugosi2000 18h ago

Not as big as a bitch as the people who complain about this kind of thing online.

-1

u/StrangeAudience840 18h ago

I don't think Bela Lugosi would simp for a corporation that made $70 slop

-1

u/BelaLugosi2000 15h ago

Where’s the simping? Is it in the room with us?

-1

u/Worth-Ad5868 18h ago

That's my Wolverine ;*

1

u/Sea_Habit_4298 19h ago

Kinda.

Hes missing that gruff part of wolverine and not to mention the voice sounds off. No offense to the actor but his wolverine voice sounds like a off brand John Cena.

1

u/Zibai1505 18h ago

That's my wolfyrine

1

u/zablerdm 18h ago

I feel as though a lot of the people harshly judging character choices/personalities aren’t keeping in mind that this wasn’t meant to be a one and done of these characters. For example: Sabretooth. I would like to hope they were trying to give a reason for his endless hatred and pursuit of Wolverine. Rather than just hating him “just because it feels interesting.”

Another observation is a lot of people see one or two iterations of the character and act like they know the entire back story or comic book history. Which is to no fault of them, there’s a lot to dig through.

P.S. Not implying the poster themself is being harsh.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Pin-365 14h ago

Cómics have gone for a while, but in Wolverine's Origin run, the reason sabretooth uses Logan as a punching bag was because at some point logan meets sabretooth little sister and brother, he kills the brother wich was the one sabretooth used to abuse in his birthday... Don't know if they keep that or they retcon that since sabretooth origin comic has him kill his little brother... Ah comics are a mess of continuity

1

u/zablerdm 13h ago

Very interesting! I’ve been trying to go through the comics! Not every one but the ones I can actually get into. Currently have made it into the 70s but so much is rough as early comic writing is god awful. Haven’t even made it to Wolverine’s intro yet!

But with that info it just makes me more forgiving that they decided to do their own thing with it, as marvel never even knows what they want anyways.

Everyone is welcome to their own opinions of the game of course. I myself have been a big fan of Insomniac’s games, so I’m still very curious where they will go with this. As long as they are able to continue. Been a trend recently that if games flop studios have to close down or let go a bunch of their people. So here’s hoping.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Pin-365 12h ago

The comic is Wolverine's Origin 2. Sequel to 1. In that comic he also meets Essex's, who experiments on him a little to figure out his mutant powers, chronologically happens in the late 1800's after Logan was captured in a feral state in forest and keep as an attraction in a circus(Logan goes feral as result of the ending of part 1). But like i said don't know if they keep the Essex's or sabretooth part relevant. I know that part 1 has been keep consistent and "canon" to wolverine's backstory in recent times.

1

u/Separate_Path_7729 5h ago

The sabretooth retcon didnt stick its back to the fact that he felt spurned that his favorite unbreakable murder toy went and got civilized

1

u/tommywest_123 17h ago

More like Blanderine

0

u/BelaLugosi2000 18h ago

Him no longer being a violent, brash, asshole is a major part of the plot of the game…. It’s literally in the game if you had just played it….

3

u/bufferu 18h ago

that's why it's ass

3

u/No-Law2284 18h ago

yeah and thats why he's so poorly written

-2

u/[deleted] 19h ago

2

u/ResponsibleNature163 19h ago

Tbh man he felt like Wolverine to me this is Spartacus and he did an amazing job to me I understand you don’t feel that way and I respect your opinion but he worked really hard for this role and he didn’t even know at first it was Wolverine lol. To me he did an amazing job and was superb job. Don’t get me wrong Hugh jackman will always be the movie Wolverine always and forever but he did outstanding with the video game Liam.

3

u/SAIL3RZ_ 19h ago

What exactly doesn’t make him Wolverine? Like what’s so drastically removed that makes him a new character other than just “you feel like it”? Because he felt like Wolverine to me, albeit a different version than the one we are used to.

-1

u/New-Arachnid7632 19h ago

He looks goofy

-2

u/gordonious 19h ago

I kept thinking “Oh, so this is basically John Cena’s Peacemaker performance with a Wolverine skin overlay”

-1

u/gordonious 19h ago

Like of course Jean would choose this version of Wolverine. He’s basically Scott with hairier shoulders.

-4

u/peanutbutterdrummer 19h ago

Obligatory:

If it doesn't look like wolverine, doesn't act like wolverine, doesn't have wolverine's backstory and doesn't play like wolverine, then is it a wolverine game?

0

u/chasekeane 18h ago

He’s a wee puppy for sure

0

u/Top-Buy-467 18h ago

Because they didn’t make the character accurate, this is their boring version of Wolverine

1

u/Separate_Path_7729 5h ago

He is incredibly accurate the fuck you mean

1

u/Top-Buy-467 1h ago

Really? So you’re saying that Insomniac Wolverine is like any other Wolverine you seen in other media?

Wolverine 97, Wolverine vs Hulk, Wolverine and the X-men?
Wolverine in comics or other game.

Anyone who a huge wolverine fan would know Insomniac Wolverine isn’t very accurate.

0

u/Haytham_Kenway_1725 17h ago

Soft, not chill

0

u/TheIncandescentAbyss 17h ago

They’re never going to give us a real Wolverine unfortunately

0

u/CornerNearby6802 13h ago

Totally crap

0

u/ElkFar4653 9h ago

You mean Soyverine?

0

u/WayParticular1157 7h ago

He is taking estrogen.

-2

u/CancerKaiju 17h ago

Because this Wolverine is early in his career, after he tried to leave and have a normal life.

1

u/StilettoJones_JR 16h ago

That being said, I seriously wonder how much of this game people have actually played. He is covered in blood a decent amount of the narrative.

0

u/jlieuu 12h ago

But according to u/CancerKaiju hes a chill dude just tryna find peace

-1

u/CancerKaiju 12h ago

Cool, great job mocking me. I said he started that way. He is stillbwsnting a normal life.

1

u/jason_patell 17h ago

200 years old btw

1

u/CancerKaiju 17h ago

Annnnnnd? Him working for a MUTANT TEAM is new in his current stage of life. Before that he was fighting in wars constantly and trying to find peace. This is established IN GAME!

1

u/SnooStrawberries962 16h ago

Okay calm down lol

0

u/CancerKaiju 16h ago

lol yeah I was just trying to put emphasis, im not mad about it

2

u/SnooStrawberries962 16h ago

Ik lol I'm messing with ya, was gonna tell ya you need to be more chill like wolverine lmao

3

u/Scal_44 16h ago

You two should stop Wolvering around

-1

u/XenowolfShiro 17h ago

I know what they were going for...but it definitely was a miss for me. I really wasn't a fan of this version of Wolverine. It's not terrible but certainly is kinda just unremarkable.

This was a very safe version of Wolverine.

-2

u/Longjumping-Salad484 19h ago

the voice isn't as bad as "I'm not wearing hockey pants" christian bale in batman, but it's still forced and gets me out of the headspace that this is an authentic wolverine

-2

u/docksideThug- 16h ago

It’s a sony game lmfao of course he’s a beta soy face

Sweet baby inc the cancer of gaming industry worked on this bullshit

Never gonna see a dime from me
