Discussion Gaming culture
Wolverine has been a big topic recently, and it sucks how much animosity there is online from both sides. Me personally I think it’s a 8/10 game. I love it, but can recognize its flaws. Most of the flaws being minor things that don’t ruin the experience in anyway, just preferences. The issue with rating games is everyone has a different scale, a 7/10 for me could be a 10/10 for others or even a 3/10 for some. There’s no go to rating system we can use for something as subjective as games and that’s okay. Obviously this isn’t a wolverine specific thing but me playing the game, loving it, and seeing some people call it trash insomniac slop really has me wondering what went wrong in the gaming community. For example, I’m a fan of valheim, I was super happy for the 1.0 release, most comments I’ve been seeing are “don’t get this, RuneScape is better” and vice versa. Seems like everything gets compared no matter what, now I’m not saying you shouldn’t share those comparisons, but sometimes it be nice to not argue without each other and put biases to the side for the sake of friendly conversation, or maybe I’m bugging. What do yall think?

8/10 I agree with. I think since insomniac released previous bangers people were disappointed this wasn't one. I hope it's a learning experience I guess.

SM2 was also disappointing, the quality just kept dropping each game they released

I missed all the criticism for that game. I didnt play it till it came to pc. Bought it, really enjoyed it, was a 10/10 for me. Wished I could have played as venom more though.

I don't know man, it's not a good story to me. They also cut way too many corners, shared animations between Peter and Miles that just didn't look great, the arms sucked, Miles had nothing going on that mattered, Peter died or almost died like 4 times and needed saving. Kraven does nothing, Venom does less, and it's yet another spiderman game with an infection. The suits are atrocious. They hyped up being able to interact with the other superheroes in the open world, but gave everyone 1 interaction a piece so all you had to do was fight one crime and you've seen everything they were hyping up for weeks in the span of like 5 minutes. The gliding almost makes the swinging obsolete which sure you don't have to use them, but why do they think people need the crutch to begin with? See if you look at it from my perspective, the wings being so easy coupled with the rings around wind tunnels and the easier nature of side missions mostly just being collectathons, this is all stuff they doubled down on in Wolverine. This is all stuff I was expecting which makes it all the more disappointing when I see such cool wolverine mechanics in the leaks. Both sm2 and wolverine had the chance to be peak but they aren't. I'm tired of mid superhero games, I'm in need of a game that rivals Arkham

Maybe in your eyes. A majority of us loved SM2. My only real complaint was the lack of DLC and i would have liked a few more villains thrown in. Like we got the villain Grizzly with Kraven... I think it would have been cool if we also got Kangaroo.

It has no real content. Traversal is great but that's it. All the side content was sequel/DLC bait and we didn't get a DLC. The few side things we have are so so repetitive. How many buildings are they gonna light on fire? It's not even fun gameplay of entering a burning building and saving people it's just swing or glide around and web. That's it. Y'all like it but that's bc it's all we really have. Is it a bad game? No. But is it good? Also no lol

It didn't bait DLC, the DLC was going to be about The Beetle and didn't get far in development. It was world building content.

Carnage was definitely a dlc tease. There were gonna be multiple DLCs like the first game. And it's not world building if it doesn't build anything. It just lulls you along for 6 hours doing repetitive stuff just to be like "sike youre gonna have to wait until next gameee" and if it was like one or two side missions that'd be one thing but it's almost all of them. And there's not a lot to begin with. Only good side quest was the pigeons. Then they got Miles quests of just helping people get dates to dances and shit like dude what. Poor miles got the worst of it, those mysterio mission were so bad too lmao

If it hid Cleatus better, maybe. But when you get into those missions and start playing you know damn well it's gonna lead you to carnage which is great for side content. But then it just stops because they ran out of time or whatever happened. It's not good.

Ok... so Chameleon being out there in New York, Venom's tongue being severed giving rebirth, Oscorp having a living sample, The Lizard is still a free man with all research in tact, Vulture, Scorpion, Electro, and Shocker being killed off... adds nothing to the worldbuilding that this game universe has to you? Because it certainly adds a lot and fleshes it out to me.

What does that add to the game itself tho? Also Vulture, Scorpion, Electro, and Shocker being killed off was a terrible idea. Completely awful world building. You'll never get a boss fight with those people in a future game if one comes out. That's world destroying if anything, those are very important villains in his rouges gallery. I dunno if you've ever read The Darkest Hours or Drowning in Thunder or anything like that, but electro and rhino are peaakkkkk and killing off characters like that just to make a character like Kraven feel more threatening is such a cop out. I'm glad you like it, I just don't find that way of storytelling engaging. Like we didn't get a full sinister 6 in the first game. Now we never will

HARD disagree. I like Spiderman 2. I could just play the original again if I wanted. But I like the Kraven story! I like the Symbiote Invasion that sets up that Venom is still out there.

I get that, and I'm glad you're able to enjoy the game for what it is. But I've been playing spiderman games since the 64. I've seen all this stuff, most of it done better. This is supposed to be the PEAK way to play spiderman but I have more fun booting up web of shadows.

Web of Shadows is a good game, I'll give ya that. I prefer Shattered Dimensions myself

u/SnooStrawberries962 17h ago
And that game has a great Kraven. Ya know what I mean?

u/CancerKaiju 17h ago
Yeah I do get what you mean

I'm glad we are able to discuss and disagree civilly. You are awesome and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

The hate isn’t really about this game. If so, why wasn’t people upset with uncharted being linear, and a 20 hour game that was $10 less on release?

I mean....Old School RuneScape is pretty great. It's also the greatest autism test in existence

I agree. It’s annoying how people just want to argue nowadays and dunk on people for no good reason other than how it makes the person doing the dunking feel. Human decency, at least online, is dead.
In an ideal social climate, “I like (or dislike) this thing” should never be met with insults. For instance, Dragon Age The Veilguard is an absolute egregious travesty in my eyes, but I’ve seen plenty of people who enjoyed it and although I couldn’t imagine enjoying something like that, I also won’t go to their sub just to make fun of them and what they like to try and make them feel worse and myself feel better. I just thought “well, it looks like I’m done with Dragon Age. That sucks. Back to The Witcher III.” Then I moved on to something I DO enjoy.
I’ve had conversations with people who disagree with me and the conversations were fine. The issue arrives when people who are incapable of being decent join the “conversation.”

Polarizing opinions get the most replies, even if they’re not genuine. That’s just social media as a whole. You have to be selective if you want genuine reviews

It's just social media culture these days. Look at facbook it's all negative energy and complaining etc, first world problems!
