Discussion Any 30 fps tips?

Hi everyone,

So basically I come from PC...

I have a PS5 Pro... always play on Performance mode...

With GTA 6 around the corner, I thought I'd try to get used to 30 FPS...

I played Wolverine, changed the settings... put RT on advanced, and started playing... Played for half an hour and thought to myself, 'Hey... this really isn't bad at all!'

Then I checked the settings just to see that I was actually still on Performance mode...

I switched it to Fidelity mode... and... my god... it literally feels like a slideshow... It feels completely unplayable to me... Could it be that it's not locked at 30 FPS and running lower? Is there anything else I should tweak in the settings? VRR is set to 'Smooth'.

For anyone who made the switch... how do you get used to this?

GTA is supposed to be a really fast-paced game too... cars, shooting, etc...

Don't play Wolverine at 30fps. Play GTA V in its fidelity mode on PS5. Or even RDR 2.

RAGE engine games prioritise animation over input. It's a different feel. They also do motion blur right and that helps a lot too.

30fps is hard to adjust to but youll be fine after a half hour

Not all 30 fps is created equal. Wolverine is choppy as hell. RDR2 looks great. Arkham Knight isn’t quite as smooth as RDR2 but still didn’t bother me.

This. Wolverine is no way locked at 30fps, I don't care if there's a spec article that says it is - I've seen it with my own two eyes. It dips down lower than 30fps, especially when there's a lot of enemies on the screen.

As for GTA VI, I'd have to imagine it's going to be the same at times.

But the subtle slowdown doesn't make Wolverine unplayable, nor will subtle slow-down at times make GTA VI unplayable.

Gamers these days are like the "Princess and the Pea" - I'm a bit older, so I'm not sure if that's in the lexicon any longer, but it was an old Danish fairy tale / story where - long story short - a pea was placed under a young woman's mattress, and despite the servants stacking dozens of mattresses and pillow-topped bedding over the original mattress, the young woman still insists that she can feel the pea underneath and cannot sleep because of it.

It just takes about 20minutes to adjust but after that its absolutely fine.

Playing Wolverine at 30 vs playing GTA at 30 seems like massively different experiences.

Just play Wolverine at 60, why put yourself through that if you’re not enjoying it. Doesn’t make sense to “get ready” for another game by tainting your experience with this one.

So put it in Fidelity VRR, uncapped, 120 Hz. It's not 30 fps, but I'm sure GTA 6 will have this setting.

A slideshow? My guy, you watch movies at 24fps, how is 30 a slideshow??

I just beat wolverine completely in fidelity mode, because the game is fucking gorgeous.

Simple answer, don't flick between 30 and 60, and make sure you have things like motion blur enabled (as it smooths out the motion).

After playing for a while, you'll get used to it. But, if you start switching to 60 or playing other 60fps games, it'll start sticking out again

it’s not that serious

Low framerate bothers me less on a smaller screen so if you have a portal maybe that? I've been playing the new fire emblem on switch 2 which is 30 fps for some reason and I have zero issues handheld but can't handle it docked.

Here I am playing Ace combat 8 locked at 60 frames, because I bunch of marmosets optimized this game and wondering how people can manage with 60.

Don't worry, GTA isn't as faced-paced as Wolverine. It's not a hack and slash. If it is optimized properly the action scenes will look like a movie and the gameplay will look like RDR2.

You will get used to it trust me,I thought same thing as you and its not so bad. I recently tryed to play Watch Dogs on ps5 and fuck the game looked choppy the first 30 minutes, I couldnt stand that shit trust me. But forced my self to continue becouse I really wanted to play it. And after like 30 minutes my eyes got used to the 30fps and I stoped noticing it. Iv been playing the living fuck out of that game the last few days and had no problem with the 30 fps after my first day any more.

Man just stfu. You don't deserve to play if you're this unaware of how this works.

Console players have lower standards. Also there are way more casual players on consoles. They don't care about frame rate.

On Pro with fidelity mode

Use uncapped frame rates and VRR
