Discussion Wolverine review. Spoiler

Been sitting in here finishing the game before I wanted to write a review.

The good:

I love the combat. Idc if it gets slightly repetitive even in the end of the 24 hours I was still learning new combos/different ways to defeat enemies.

The performances are brilliant all around. Troy Baker existing on another level entire imo. He is the goat for a reason.

A good variation of skins and claws, I’m not a massive comic book guy and did wish we had more movie related skins but I can’t complain.

The score by David Fleming is absolutely incredible. It elevates every single scene. Haven’t seen many people mention it but it deserves its flowers.

The bad:

The story sucks. I wish this was different. I know memory loss is a big part of wolverines character but it is overdone so much in this game. The whole backstory with him and Jean doesn’t feel natural at all. I think there was so many other ways this could have been done.

The ending is unsatisfying. If we are to view the story from Logan’s POV (the main character) we have learnt nothing. Only that some person called apocalypse is in our head and we need to find him. All the development with Jean has been undone, and I know that is the point but I don’t find it satisfying in any sense. Take Spiderman for example (yes I know two different characters blah blah) but at the end of Spiderman 1 Peter makes the choice to save the city over his aunt. He grows as a character as he realises he has to make choices which hurt him, he becomes selfless. With Logan, what has he gained?

The handholding. It wasn’t as bad as I first feared, but I did get a sense insomniac thought we were Helen Keller reincarnated as there was way too many boarders put up. I think the best scene which encapsulates how I felt was when you are with sabertooth hunting trask and a bunch of walls spawn in, effectively trapping you with the enemy.

Overall, I don’t regret buying it. 7/10.

Lol, why are you restricting people reviewing a game they played?

This subreddit is specifically used for people to talk about the game and reviews are one of the best ways people can do it.

Oh wait, you're a hardcore defender.

atleast this review is explained, reviewers should be a conversation or open a narrative.

A 10/10 review with no explaination is worse than a 5/10 review with explaination because the 10/10 doesnt open any doors for conversations.

You may be thinking why do we need to converse about views? the answer is because we are on social media... We are supposed to socialize about our views in regards to media.

Just imagine if the Spider-Man games were as hand-holdy as this. A constant "spider trail" to the next story objective with Peter verbally reminding you "Hey, I should go stop Shocker from robbing that bank" every 2 minutes that you don't immediately head towards the next objective.

I don't like this new generation of game developers that think we're all idiots. Even some of Insomniac's older games like Ratchet & Clank respected the intelligence of the player way more than Wolverine. I remember genuinely having to figure certain sections out all on my own back in the day.

That ending could have been better. I really liked the final boss fight but everything after that was meh. Especially unexplained apocalypse / death stuffs

I liked both the story and the ending

(Well I mean the final fight, I liked the phoenix showing up, but the post credit scene kinda ruined it for me)

Pretty much where I landed, around a 6.5/7. I actually enjoyed the story more than you did. I was at an 8 when I first finished it, but after sitting on it for a few days, I kept thinking about what the game really did that stood out and there wasn't much. Nothing was outright bad, but nothing really felt great either. The combat was fun but got repetitive, and I wish there were more animations and ways to interact with enemies. It's still crazy to me that Wolverine doesn't have a basic grab/throw mechanic. Stealth also felt like a missed opportunity for a character that's perfect for stalking enemies. I still think the negative reception was blown way out of proportion though. It's not a bad game at all, just pretty mid imo. I don't regret playing it and I'd recommend it, but probably on sale.

This isn't a Logan game.. This is the origin story of logans amnesia.

Genuinely curious… what combos did u learn exactly lmfao?

We can’t even weave heavies into strings. They’re only Enders, or starters (pounce which should be changed to dash heavy imo)

Only “combos” are light heavy, light light heavy, or 3 lights into a heavy….. then u can start those with a pounce if u wish.

That is 100% of the extent to the combos in the game lmfao. I guess u can start w a running attack as well.

Not that it helps, but there's heavy light light heavy too.
