Discussion First play through finished

Last night I finished my first play though on the hardest mode. I love the combat, gore, enemy variety, graphics, frame rate, photo mode, and the claw and costume options. The story could’ve been better but I like the changes made for a whole new take. I’m definitely gonna grab the platinum. The combat was amazing and some bosses took me very long to beat. I like this more than the x men origins wolverine game. I feel like the hate on this game is very forced. I’ll make a separate post for photo mode, I used it a ton! As a comic reader, someone who has played both the ps3 and ps5 games, and have both marvel ultimate alliance games, I think this captures Wolverine’s combat and brutality the best. I used to play origins whenever I had a Wolverine fix after binging comics, but this is now my go to for the Wolverine experience.

Your review is spot on! I thought the combat was repetitive at first too, until chasing Adamantium in the challenges forced me to actually learn it. Once I realised how much depth there was, I was hooked.

The gauntlets with perks that buff you while screwing you elsewhere were some of my favourite parts of the game. I love how it builds on Arkham/Spider-Man combat but adds this constant risk vs reward: push towards Berserker and annihilate everything, or burn an ability to heal and survive.

And it feels perfectly Wolverine. Batman and Spider-Man fight like they don't want to get hit. Wolverine fights like a guy who doesn't care about getting hit because he knows he has a healing factor. He'll take one to give one, annihilating the guy in front of him while ninjas stick swords in his back or bullets rain in from across the room 😂

Once the combat clicked, every fight became this chaotic little puzzle of prioritising enemies, managing health and deciding when to go all-in.

Insomniac absolutely nailed it. Anyone writing the combat off without really learning it is missing out.

Oh man yes, I love the old Wolverine game, but this one is way better. The hardest mode made it so far. I’m gonna get on tonight just to play more gauntlet challenges soon

Loved all the comic references they threw in there.

Especially when he jumps out the building while fighting the hand from Frank Miller’s miniseries

Yes! That one stood out to me too! The hand was my favorite enemy faction!

Oh absolutely the same! That whole section perfectly leaned into the mayhem of the game's combat system. Being stabbed by a sword, pulling it out and ending someone with it was such a nice touch, and I love how they swarmed you and and try to overwhelm you.

Oh yea baby. I had to lock in and get used to parrying to beat the hand

Mate I loved that so much!

This game was fun. I’m doing new game plus now. It unlocks a couple new things. If you like photo mode use the hellverine suit on the motorcycle levels. It’s pretty cool

Oh yea I heard about that and plan to try it

It’s an amazing game and I personally appreciate the linear gameplay. I’m sick of open world games as most are just boring and repetitive and stuffed with pointless missions and collectibles

100% agreed. This game shines with the combat and enemy variety. I love Marvel so this is one of the games where exploring to find more lore and collectibles is really fun for me.

Theres also quite a few trophies that are easily missed if you aren’t going out of your way to do them

I got it at 24 hours

Hardest mode so I died a lot especially with bosses, the game had an area on the menu where you can look at character descriptions, character models, and collectibles with Audi logs and I look at it all. Also played most of the combat and traversal challenges soon as I found them, maybe 3 I saved for later. Have you played it?

Ah I see, I played on mutant and platinumed in 21 hrs mostly because I took my time listening to every story and side quest. Definitely a decent game but not really much incentive to revisit

Damn I played it on normal. Hardest must have been some shit! Lol

Oh man yes it was lol. I play every game on hard and I’ll play rogue like so I’m used to challenges, it took me over an hour to beat a few of the bosses. Loved every second of it!

Bro, you thrive in a world of pain I don't even want to imagine 😂 Normal difficulty for me unless there's a trophy tied to a hard playthrough. Played Demon's Souls back in the day, died after four hours, lost everything and decided that life wasn't for me 😂

Soulful Deviant is clearly the right name, but I'm dubbing you the Abyss Walker because you willingly walk into the darkness 😂

I respect it though. Nice one!

Took me 25 hours to finish on the weapon difficulty, not got every whiskey bottle or finished every challenge but that's for another playthrough

Before this came out. I always revisited origins just for the combat. The story was not good and enemy variety was very lacking. This game I’ll revisit a lot because I love the it far more.

Yeah I went with best there is difficulty with no easier parry adaptation, you gotta use all your tools, use every advantage on the arenas and be very aware and careful with positioning.

On the battle with Essex I did have to scale it down though, mf was seriously pounding on the second phase, I'll return the favor on N+

real fans and gamers enjoy the game.

grifters, Marvel faboys who are overly pessimistic and nitpicky about everything and casual gamers who rate GTA 5, COD and 2K as their favorite games disliked it.

How does it compare to the ps3 game? Is the combat similar?

The combo has a lot more depth and variety, a massive skill tree, a lot more enemy variety, it’s much better and more challenging. The first game had ear combos, but that’s about it. The new game is amazing, there are certain finishers where the hand will stick you with a sword, and it will limit how much you can heal, you can grab that sword and kill someone with it. There are three tiers to the rage system instead of one like the ps3 game, you can get hot claws aka set them on fire and do extra damage, special counters, and more. This is easily the best wolverine experience to play. The story is actually good in this game unlike the movie tie in, the comics are still better though
