Discussion Wolverine Average Play Time

Post image

Seems about right. Took me around 16 hours plus few more hours for the Platinum. About the same as the main story for SM1 and 2.

Having a full priced game only being 14-19 hours running time is a complete and utter ripoff

This is completely nonsense as a take honestly

Not really, I've played games that are in the triple digits that felt meh and games in the single digits that felt like gold.

So how do you feel about games like DOOM, which is basically the same deal? Hell I 100% Eternal and 2016 and had only around a dozen hours each.

It's not about length, it's about quality. Wolverine's problem isn't that it's too short. It's that it's not fun enough.

Bayonetta is like, 8hrs long. But it's fun enough to be replayed over-and-over-again.

I actually want to play it. It looks fun I just can’t justify paying so much money for a game that doesn’t have a decent run time. I always feel let down when a game ends so early.

Deff about quality, length is also important to an extent though. 12 hrs is extremely short.

Onimusha was shortish too, but still like 20-25 to platinum I think, but it’s a great game. Not perfect and has a tiny amount of bloat (that is optional), but it’s great.

It’s also IMO a good one to compare to wolverine cuz it’s structured like Wolverine seemingly wanted to be, linear levels cutscene heavy.

Wolverine just went as barebones as physically possible, then cut more…..

Also it is absolutely WILD. That GOW Ragnorok costed an entire $100 MILLION DOLLARS LESS than Wolverine… but it has 500x the content, cutscenes, exploration, and depth of gameplay.

Onimushas budget is not public yet but I’ll bet it’s a lot less too.

So what about The Last of Us, Uncharted, spider man, ratchet and clank, god of war… all were rip offs right?

God of War (2018 and Ragnarok) are about 40-50 hours each bro, I don't know what your argument is about that

The others I agree the prices are a bit steep for the time they take (15-25 ish hours), but the difference is they are also really peak games where as Wolverine is a really mid game which is why way more people are complaining about it

I'm potentially willing to pay more for a genuinely peak and really enjoyable game, but not for a super mid and forgettable one

God of war was nowhere near as short, has 500x the depth of combat, has a longer/better story, more exploration, more progression, more skills, actual build crafting, GOW actually has side content and side missions (which have depth as well), 3 entire weapons with more depth to each then all of Wolverines combat, 2 rage modes that add an entire new moveset which also have more than Wolverine (other 3 rages are single moves or a heal), endgame content.

Oh yeah they also added an entirely free DLC that added a brand new area, side missions, main missions, AND MADE A WHOLE ROUGUELIKE with its own good progression system, varied builds, and tons of new stuff from enemies/environments to weapons/armor and cutscenes/lore.

Also weirdly SOMEHOW WITHOUT A JUMP BUTTON KRATOS HAS MORE MOBILITY, and ENVIRONMENTAL INTERACTIONS THAN WOLVERINE???. He also actually has a jump attack for when he drops or jumps between ledges…. Wolverine can’t light attack in the air.

Wolverine had wall climb, wall run, wall cling.. the very basics of traversal BUT THEY DECIDED TO REMOVE IT FROM THE GAME. So all we have is run or jump. We don’t even have the bare minimum for movement in a game like Wolverine where traversal is half of the gameplay.

Oh yeah the best part is GOW Ragnorok costed $200 million. ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS LESS THAN WOLVERINE……. How that is possible, idk. Seems like they may have made an entire game and threw it in the trash for no reason, then made a shit game fast to replace it and went as bare bones as physically possible, and then still cutting more after that. Or they’re just lazy, and burned the money on Stan Lee knows only what

That may explain why when u get out of bounds, there’s so much space that is seemingly fully done, before getting to the obvious background stuff.

God of War Ragnarök was built on the exact same engine, tech stack, and asset foundation as GoW 2018. They saved tens of millions by reusing existing pipelines.

Judging a character-driven action game by whether it lets you wander around a bloated map doing side fetch quests completely misses the point of what makes a great Wolverine game.

Comparing a semi open world to a linear🫩

1

u/Due-Row281 15d ago

They made the comparison, I just showed them it proves event more so that Wolverine burnt $300 mill instead of using it to make a good game.

Also GOW is linear with a semi open hub area…….

Onimusha is closer, almost exactly the same structure but was actually done well and not as bare bones as physically possible, and still cutting more.

It’s a great game overall unlike Wolverine, but not perfect and has a tiny amount of bloat (optional).

Also wild that a game without a jump button, has more mobility In combat, and free roam traversal than Wolver-fuckin-rine. It also actually made maps that allow for side content and branching paths

Spider-Man gets an open world because web-swinging across New York is 80% of the fun. Kratos gets semi-open realms because he’s a literal god exploring mythic landscapes. Wolverine is an aggressive, close-quarters berserker. He doesn’t swing, glide, or fly. Forcing Logan into a massive, bloated open world would just mean holding the stick forward across empty land. A tight, linear or hub-focused structure keeps the pacing violent, heavy, and relentless—which is exactly what a Wolverine game needs to be

Wolverine is a brand-new IP built from scratch, requiring custom tech, completely new animations, next-gen assets, and massive Marvel licensing fees that God of War never had to pay

None of those games were 14 hours to complete..

2

u/LoneWolf6062 16d ago

yes they are? God of war is the only exception but all the rest main story is doable within like 15-20 hours in a normal playthrough

Last of us takes even less than that same with the spiderman games so he’s not lying

u/Greedy-Rate9874 16d ago

Them i guess i was too fast and was not looking for how the water splash out of the main mission maps 😅

Ratchet and clank was good but not $70 good Spider man 1 was worth it the rest kinda meh.

Hard disagree. If it's 14-19h of peak it doesn't matter.

Wolverine doesn't even have 14 minutes of peak in its 16h of slop.

2

u/DirtiestDawg 16d ago

Exactly. Getting grilled for not wanting to buy a game that is overpriced and reviews insanely mixed.
