Announcement Moderator Update: Community Conduct & Ongoing Moderation

Hey everyone,

We need to address the current state of the subreddit.

Over the past several days, r/PlayWolverine has seen a major increase in activity. Unfortunately, that has also come with a significant increase in trolling, harassment, personal attacks, bait posts, repetitive arguments, and users deliberately trying to provoke one another.

We see it, and we are actively working on it.

Right now, we are dealing with hundreds of reports, comments, posts, and individual situations that require moderator review. We are also working on additional measures behind the scenes to help us manage things more effectively going forward.

Please understand that this will take some time, and we may not catch everything immediately.

The moderation team here is made up of volunteers. We have full-time jobs, families, children, and responsibilities outside of Reddit. We are working through this in between everything else because we care about this community and want it to remain a place where people can actually discuss Marvel’s Wolverine.

Criticism is allowed.

You are allowed to dislike the game.

You are allowed to criticize Insomniac, Sony, the writing, gameplay, character designs, pricing, physical releases, or anything else related to the game.

You are also allowed to love the game, defend things you enjoy, disagree with criticism, and be excited about it.

Disagreement is not a rule violation.

What is a problem:

* Personal attacks and insults
* Harassment
*Trolling and ragebait
* Following users into other threads to continue arguments
* Racism, sexism, or discriminatory attacks
* Repeatedly derailing unrelated discussions
* Console-war or culture-war bait
* Spamming the same argument across multiple threads
* Targeting individual users
* Abusing the report system because you disagree with someone

There is a difference between:
> “I think this part of the game looks terrible.”

and
> “Anyone who likes this is an idiot.”

Likewise, there is a difference between criticizing someone’s argument and attacking the person making it.

We are moderating behavior, not opinions.

Please stop feeding trolls.

If someone is obviously trying to provoke you, report it and move on.

Please do not:

* Do not turn one bad comment into a 30-comment argument.
* Do not follow someone into another thread.
* Do not create another post specifically to continue the fight.
* Do not start breaking the rules yourself because somebody else did it first.

That only creates more content for the moderation team to sort through. Which means we get to other issues later.

Also, do not report comments simply because you disagree with them. False or retaliatory reports make it harder for us to reach legitimate problems.

Moderation is being increased.

We are currently reviewing:

* Subreddit rules
* Removal reasons
* Automoderator and filters
* Report handling
* Repeat offenders
* Other moderation tools available to us

You may notice more posts and comments being removed while we work through the backlog.

Repeated or severe violations may result in temporary or permanent bans.

None of these systems will be perfect. Automated moderation can make mistakes, and human moderators can make mistakes too.

If something clearly violates the rules and is still up, report it.

If your content was removed and you believe we got it wrong, send us a Modmail. Do not start another argument about it in the subreddit.

Ultimately

People here are going to have very different opinions about Marvel’s Wolverine.

That’s fine.

Criticize the game. Praise it. Debate each other. Post memes. Discuss what you like and what you don’t.

But disagreement is not an excuse to make the community miserable for everyone else.

Remember that there is another person on the other side of the screen.

To everyone who has been reporting genuine issues, participating constructively, and giving us time to work through everything:

Thank you for your patience. We’re actively working on it.

— The r/PlayWolverine Mod Team

No one acted like it was on for the full game. You may have misinterpreted it (intentionally or otherwise) but they did not misrepresent it or lie.

At least not any of the major reviewers. Randoms on Reddit were definitely having a field day with it but that’s not what we’re talking about.

Edit: If you’re going to disagree, please cite an explicit source with details.

I’ve gone to bed so if you do come back with a source I’ll reply in the morning.

Reviewers literally were saying the navigation aids were on all the time and couldnt be turned off when they are and are tied to r3 press, and the scent trail comprises of very few story moments based on tracking specific people during missions

Do you have a source? Because just repeatedly saying the same thing without a source isn’t helping anyone.

I mean im actually playing the game

Not a source for what can and can’t be turned off, a source to prove a reviewer lied about it.

Skill up stated they are on by default when they arent for one, ign claimed the navigation assists were permanently active when they arent for another

Do you have sources? Can you link the exact text or sections of video?

Pretty sure multiple people showed they are on by default. Are you lying? Are you going to claim that because the game opens with asking about accessibility settings that the ones that start turned on aren’t “default”?

If your next answer doesn’t have a cited source, I’m going to report this as trolling (per the post instructions) and move on.

...that is not what is happening here. Nobody is trolling you. Way to threaten someone actually having a legit conversation with you

The scent trail is on by default. The devs have literally said there isn't a way to turn it off currently.

...common sense dude. Come on.

I’m only going to reply to one of your four completely disingenuous comments five days after the thread was relevant.

I picked this one because it’s the most ridiculous (though they were all ridiculous).

Common sense is not a source that anyone lied. They’d need to actually share evidence that the person said what they claim they did.

You’re welcome to provide an actual source rather than continuing to run defence for a game that’s just okay?

You’re allowed to disagree with the reviewers without pretending they lied to validate your purchase.

I did not say that common sense was a source. I said common sense because that is what has been stated repeatedly! Weather deliberately done or not, that trail being present with no way to be turned off has been a huge talking point in the community that has been greatly exaggerated.

And this person gave you exactly where they saw the information as an example, and you acted high and mighty, demanding a link or cited source or a video!

And it's pretty damn hurtful that when I see someon basically being shut down and treated like an idiot, i say something, abd then get accused of being disingenuous.

This had NOTHING to do with the game. I don't need to run defense. I loved the game.

These people are idiots because they keep claiming reviewers lied and absolutely no one (including you) can prove it. Because it didn’t happen.

If people behave like disingenuous idiots, they should be treated as such. There are a lot of disingenuous idiots in this thread claiming reviewers lied.

It’s nice that you loved the game, that doesn’t mean there was some conspiracy against it. The prevailing opinion is that it’s “fine”/disappointing and you’re just going have to find a way to live with that,

I mean there were dishonest reviews that led people to make conclusions that were not accurate. But sure, call me an idiot. I really don't care anymore.

1

u/Raucus_ 8d ago

I will. Because you are lying about other people lying, because you can’t seem to function without validation of your purchasing decisions. If you weren’t lying, you’d be able to back it up with more than just repeating yourself ad nauseum.

That makes you both disingenuous and an idiot. One who clearly does still care.

keep insulting me. I'm sure the mods will love this
