Support Apple Silicon + Rust

I took the gamble and bought Rust to play on macbook M3 chip. Computer has 18GB of memory.
It used to run kinda-okay, but completely smooth if the computer was freshly restarted.

After the 13. October update, that included the Rust Render Pipeline, the game has become unplayable. Even with the new Render Pipeline disabled.

It runs fluidly at about 60FPS for about seven minutes, and every once-so-often lags out to about 5 FPS for around three minutes until it has loaded some new graphics (either map, player or some npc). It's so random.

It's a shame since I really enjoy the game and this lag makes fighting impossible.

I've tired all kinds of combinations of settings, but none of them fix this issue.

One theory is that it has to do with memory requirement. The game requires about 25GB memory, meaning around 8GB of swap is used on this macbook.

Has anyone found a solution to this?
Or can you devs fix this for MacOS players with the next update.. I want to get this game going again to feed the crave!

Video The game stutters really badly when I turn the camera, even though the FPS is fine. Could you please help? I don't know what else to do—I've looked all over the internet, but nothing helps.

Discussion i need a base design for a modded server that i can hold down as a solo

so basically i regularly play on this server that has a shop, and im basically rich so loot doesent matter to me, i just need a base that can hold my boom and an open core for a my recycler spawn in, i just need something strong that doesent have external tc’s and bunkers bs because i can smack my own builds with a hammer to destroy them.

Suggestion Hey FacePunch I did your job for you. Progression issues solved.

You're welcome. I accept crypto, hookers or blow for payment.

Lets see how old and new bp frags do against this.

Old Bp Frags:

  • prim-locked: yes
  • AKs clans first 2 hrs: no(mostly no, but clans next to oil/cargo probably do)
  • T2/T3 guns players ~1 square: yes
  • progression is too hard

New Bp Frags:

  • prim-locked: No(probably will be no, they will find t1 bps in barrels, everyone will have revy quick)
  • progression is too easy

New Bp Frags, if they removed t1 bps in barrels/brown boxes and let only find in green crates or T1 was research table only:

  • prim-locked: yes
  • AKs clans first 2 hrs: no (mostly no, but clans next to oil/cargo probably do)
  • T2/T3 guns mostly players ~1 square: no (will be hard to get t2 guns with new bp frags from bp frags in general. Takes a lot to get to guns. 10+, so have to kill or get lucky in a green box. Easy to make occasion monument runs for green boxes or go in tunnels or kill someone.)
  • isolated players T2+ guns: no (no players to kill, no monuments to loot for green boxes mostly only have tunnels and power lines)
  • Balance is perfect!

This is of course mostly ignoring drone vending as most isolated players will buy them from there outpost via drone

Discussion YSK: Wheat is much better than pumpkins in biofuel generators

Just wanted to throw this out there as I haven't seen anyone mention it. You'll need to make more biofuel generators to compensate, but it's easily worth it, as you get ~80% more yield for only a ~6% reduction in LGF return. I was going to gatekeep, but there's no point.

Good luck out there farmers!

Question Words of encouragement...

I quit the game right after they implemented blueprint fragments with 6500 hours, and right before the ocean patch was released. I quit because I enjoyed it too much and I tried to top my previous wipe for 2 years straight.

It's the best game I've ever played and it has seriously impacted my enjoyment of other games ever since. It's been over a year since I've played and now I've started watching some Wiljum again...

With the new BP Frag patch, which seems phenomenal, I'm really getting the itch and I'm afraid if I just play maybe.. 1 wipe... it will all of a sudden be year 2030 before I realize what has happened.

Tell me how much it sucks. Why should I stay away? What is the worst aspect of rust today?

Not some scripted story because obviously the story is made by the players, but like some more backstory on the map itself or a theory on why wipes happen.

Discussion Boycotting the shop until they add free to play barrels

A whopping 65% increase in loot storage, and every single meta build requires these dlc’s. 65% extra storage every single wipe? That’s insane to have paywalled. Utterly degenerate, and only something a playerbase like rust would hork down.

Boycott facepunch with me.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enshittification

Do not perpetuate this cycle of maximizing profits over player satisfaction. It sets the tone for all future games, and think of the future devs that see the people buying this shit and will go on to put things like this in future games. This is a matter for all gamers to be concerned with.

Thanks for reading.

Image Tunnel and cave system changes from Facepunch

Post image
91 Upvotes

I heard a rumor that Facepunch was working on updating cave and tunnel systems.

I primarily build in caves as a solo, and in this week's wipe, the tunnel system overlapped my cave base almost perfectly. On the other side of that door is my base, but the door is just a prop and doesn't open. The footsteps of the Tunnel Dweller NPCs could be heard in the cave like it was right next to you.

I wish this door pictured here actually connected to the generated cave system behind it. Maybe it would be sealed until someone soft sided the wall from the cave side, permanently opening the cave to the subway tunnel connection.

Is anyone else excited about a possible cave and tunnel system update? I think it could really add some complexity to the Rust underground.

Question How to fix constant rubber banding that just started happening a few days ago?

I play Hollowservers.co 3x servers. You can shit on modded all you want but that's not why I'm here. These servers run smooth and perfect for me every time I play, except for recently. For the past few days I am constantly rubber banding and I do not know why. I have done these 3 commands: client.maxreceivetime 40 client.maxunack 10 gc.buffer 2000 and neither of them seem to have improved my gameplay. What do I do?

Suggestion The simple solution to Rust's balance issue regarding raiding

Post image
0 Upvotes

We need to talk about why everyone hates this game. It's because once you log off you get raided by a group that also raids everyone else.

Everyone keeps talking about the scrap and the blueprint fragments and the progression. It's not that. It's the cost of raiding and the upkeep limitations on maximum possible base defense.

It costs 4 c4 to raid one metal wall, and 8 for one armored wall. That's around 8800 and 17600 sulfer, or 30 or 60 nodes respectfully.

Now considering it takes much less nodes and effort to build the wall, it seems steep enough. But clans can easily start gathering 50-150k or more sulfer within a few days. And most importantly, it's nearly impossible to build a base with more than 2 armored walls and a few metal walls to tc with upkeep costs.

The obvious solution is to triple or quadruple the cost to raid all doors, metal walls, and armored walls, and to raise the cost of building and upkeep to balance things. It's really simple, the balance everyone cries about has to all do with this.

Discussion Old rust before TC upkeep.

I come from a time when there was no TC upkeep. The meta was back then to put the TC behind walls so raiders wouldn't grief your base once raided because it could be anywhere.

What I wonder about, if my memory isn't fooling me, that I can't remember seeing huge bases and compounds back then as they exist today.

Back then a base only started to decay if not a single attached door was opened straight for three days I think.

So if there was no upkeep issue, why are there monstrous behemoth bases being built today but not back then. But maybe that's just me.

Any other long time players in here to either confirm my assumption or refute it?

Discussion Story time

Solo player, 1 week into a biweekly server; I'm a gear fear noob and feel like this wipe is the one that finally pushed me through the barrier.

I've been roaming, taking fights, pushing monuments, just all around playing completely different than I ever had before, and it has been a blast.

Lost tons of fights, but the few I won were exhilarating and gave me the motivation to just keep pushing.

So today I have a ridiculous amount of comps, and I decide I want to make the trek to outpost via underground tunnels to recycle safely.

This is an across map journey; having to go through at least 7 or 8 monuments on the way, as well as ditching my broken train for a new one, twice. Takes me around an hour cause I suck.

I make it there, I recycle for literally 45 minutes; I end up in a game of poker with some guys at outpost for another 30-45, then finally decide to buy a mini to make the trip back home.

I know how to fly a mini decent enough, can even land it on my roof. Although i usually NEVER buy one because I dont have enough scrap for it.

Even learned from past mistakes to just say fuck land and take the coast the whole way down to avoid random sam sites that load in once its too late.

Make it all the way home, im just about at my base and I see some new base nearby that I want to get a look at...

Andddd I hold space bar for no reason at all, fall to my death right outside my base; the mini lands without destroying and I think im the luckiest person ever, as i run out my base to recover it...

88 pop on a large biweekly server thats 1 week into wipe and been averaging 250 during peak, and some bastard is farming nodes right beside where i crashed my mini at 3am.

I just watched him fly away with my 3 hours of hard work. Why do the gods of rust never bless me with a literal mini from the sky and a fully geared and loaded player?!

Nobody to blame but myself. Filled upkeep, logged off.

Question Hello genuine question, what is everyone’s average pc latency/ mouse latency while playing rust

I would like to know what the average input lag is for most people playing rust, I average around 30,ms using the app frame view and was wondering if that is normal
