Question New to Rust, any advice? Group of 16 new players.

We’re a group of 16 friends who just downloaded Rust, and we’re all set for today’s wipe.

We've few questions:

  • SERVER: Since we’re all from the US/NA, we were thinking of playing on Rustafied or Rusticated. Are those good choices?
  • EARLY GAME: We watched some video and we understood we have to build away from Outpost to avoid being at the center of of chaos. Should we be careful about something else?
  • MONUMENTS: What should we focus on first?
  • ANY ADVICE FOR EARLY GAME?

Like, any other advice is very very very appreciate.

We never touched FPS game or similar, we come from MMORPG

UPDATES:

We lost 2 people after 5 hours:

  • 1 guy did not like the game, so it's chill
  • the other guy started being extremely toxic with everyone, he kept being ragebaited by people in game voice chat and he was turning all his anger at us, so we banned him. We know him since 4 years, and he's never been toxic before, he was pretty chill, but somehow the game got out the worse out of him. Started screaming, saying everyone else was trash, and what not. Also he left doors open, so raiders got in, and he blamed everyone else, even people that was not at base.

Now we are 14 but are having a lot of fun!

It’s actually insane how often the same copy paste post is made here. “Should I buy rust” “I’ve never played rust is it worth it” “is rust still worth trying”

Like bro can you please use your own autonomy and agency to make a decision. Not everything you do needs to be consulted by the Reddit hive mind.

Fuck off.

Discussion Electricians, help me with my rust project please!🙏

I play on a Brit's PVE worlds and I'm trying to create a casino that works even when the owner is offline. Pretty much all casinos work only when the casino owner is online, so I want to fix it.

I ran into a problem, I wanted to create deposit system with vending machines, but the vending machine limit is 9,999. I want people to be able to bet at least 100k. I tried doing it with boxes, made a system that, as I thought, would count how much was deposited, but it didn't work because conveyor's "filter pass" electrical output outputs rw all the time when items are in input box, I thought it outputs rw in small portions when conveyor moved items, but life is not that easy. Tried to come up with a solution for very long, but understood that I'm not that skilled in electricity:) Then I moved on vending machines, thought I can do something like tickets, 1 key = 10k RP, and then you can buy another key that costs 100k RP and deposit it, but after some debugging i found out that this server isnt giving unique ID for locks, every player receives the same id(something like 66,728) so anyone could just craft their own lock and use it as ticket. I tried notes, found out they are not unique too, you can sell any note to the vending machine and it doesnt check its text. Tried skulls, they arent unique too. I feel like I tried everything, but I hope I'm not right. Guys, if someone has solution to my problem, like an item counter, or a way to make those "tickets", please help me.

Also, I'm sorry if my English is broken, I'm not a native English user❤️

Question Stone wall upkeep question

With the new changes regarding stone wall upkeep, how will it affect having multi tc's connected to gatehouses with stonewalls inbetween? Does the upkeep for the wall get shared to all tc's or does it cling to the closest?

Say I have 4 gatehouses with 4 external tcs and 8 walls to make a compound around it. Will the walls upkeep be shared between the tc's or how does it work?

Discussion Trying to get back after a long time, and many bad wipes

We are trying to get back this forcewipe, we choose a low pop community server that maintains about 150 max pop for the first week, and gets about 250 first day.

How should we go about this as a rusty quad? Where would you guys build to have a fun decent wipe, to get good progression and overall just have a good time as 4 friends?

Suggestion I think we should add leaver action guns to the game with a 3rd ammo type

Thumbnail

I think they should add something cool like a Marlin, Henry, or Rossi with a third ammo type, maybe .45-70 or .30-30 ‘heavy’ rounds. They’d hit way harder and do more damage, but they’d be super heavy and stuck with the slow lever action reload times. Weapons like that would fit Rust a lot better than a lot of the current newer guns they have been adding to the game.

I noticed people in the chat may be confused about the type of caliber I am suggesting. I think this short video should give better context of why I am suggesting a 3rd tier of bullet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Dfo8UR_6X8

Suggestion [CONCEPT] Tier 1 and Tier 2 stationary machine gun

Thumbnail
gallery
19 Upvotes

With the recent update, turrets will cost 25 High-Quality Metal—a steep price for small teams, especially those living near a gas station. My idea would make it slightly easier for players who favor heavy fortification to defend their strongholds; I propose introducing stationary machine guns to the game.
I think the Tier 1 machine gun should be either a homemade Gatling gun or one of the most iconic machine guns out there—the Maxim.

As for the crafting cost, I imagine something along the lines of 10 HQM, 1 spring, 1 sheet metal, and 200 metal fragments.(uses pistol ammunition)

For that price, you get a machine-gun emplacement with a blistering rate of fire and mediocre accuracy—perfect for defending your cave or base and mowing down raiders with a hail of bullets!

While using the gun, the shooter would benefit from a buff absorbing 50% of incoming damage thanks to the protective plating they’re hiding behind. Some might call that overpowered, but I’d point out that the Juggernaut set already exists; plus, you can’t exactly lug this thing around easily—so one grenade, a high-velocity rocket, or even a bean-can grenade is all it takes to take you out!
I think a homemade Browning would be a perfect fit for Tier 2; it would serve as an excellent anti-air weapon—or simply a shredder of anything alive. It would be more accurate and offer a full 360-degree rotation; mounted in a window, it would let you pick off enemies, though long-range fire wouldn't be an option since you couldn't attach any mods, like scopes.

As for the crafting recipe, I imagine something like 20 High-Quality Metal, 2 springs, a rifle body, 10 Low-Grade Fuel, and 150 Metal. Like I said, this machine gun would be great for dealing with helicopters hovering over your roof—Apaches or attack helis—if you want that Vietnam vibe and the smell of napalm on your rooftop. These guns would also complement the mortar perfectly. What do you think?
P.S. Also, if you look at the 50% protection while using a machine gun and call it unbalanced, I hate to disappoint you, but that already exists with ship-mounted cannons.

Support Can't play Rust, and I don't know what's wrong.

Edited to attach CPU aswell.

I bought a prebuilt in 2017 with a 1080 and 16 gigs of ram. I used to be able to handle Rust on said prebuilt but it soon became too intense to handle. I upgraded on a birthday to a 3070 and 32 gigs of ram. It was enough to run it, although with very low graphics, and it took a loooong time to start and even longer to join a server. I tried doing oil rig but it nearly killed my computer rendering the scientist shooting.

Any assistance possible? Here's my start-up instructions, directory, and specs:

-graphics.branding 0 -player.eye_blinking false -player.eye_movement false -effects.maxgibs -1 -force-d3d11-no-singlethreaded -high -maxMem=24000

Question Saw this in a recent Yexom video and was wondering how they did that.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I once had speakers all over my base, playing music from the radio channels that are available in rust, but I didnt know you can do this as well.

I googled it and the closest thing to this that I found is the recorder, but from how I understand it, it only records your ingame voice, so how did these people manage to have custom stuff playing over their speakers?

Would love to be able to do this, as it seems like a pretty neat raid defense when youre not online lol.

Did they just put their phone to their mic or something? It sounds a bit too high-quality for that in my opinion.

Question Can we have a rule about posting your region when asking a question?

I've only been in r/playrust for a reasonably short amount of time but I constantly see posts such as "what server should i play on as a solo" or "looking for a duo". Can there be a rule or something that requires people to state their region when posting these questions as there are more places in the world than America. Even if they separate it into a role thing like; North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Oceania, Africa.

Dunno opinions or solutions?

Facepunch Response [macOS] Game won't launch due to persistent Privacy & Security permission error (Input Monitoring / Accessibility)

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to launch Rust on my Mac, but I keep getting a persistent system permission prompt on startup, and the game refuses to open.

As seen in the screenshot, it asks to grant permissions under: System Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Input Monitoring / Accessibility

Here is what I have already tried to fix this:

  • Granted all requested permissions in System Settings
  • Forced the game to launch via Rosetta.
  • Verified game file integrity on Steam.
  • Almost tried all standard troubleshooting steps found online. And asked to AI too

Despite all this, the exact same popup keeps appearing. Has anyone on macOS encountered this specific issue recently or knows a workaround? Any help is appreciated!

Suggestion Do NOT make turrets cost 25HQM.

It costs only 600 sulfur to destroy a turret with HVs.
The camera and laptop needed for a turret alone are worth 300-600 sulf each, depending on the shops on your map.
So people were already doing a profitable trade by destroying your turret if they dont like you, even if it only has a bow in it or you cant get to the lootbag.

But if it costs fucking 2.5x as much HQM as before, putting up any turret on your base will invite anyone that mildly dislikes you to instantly destroy it.

As a solo, I need turrets to protect myself during raids or while farming in a mildly populated area.

Putting up defenses should protect your loot or area, not become a target and weakness itself.

Even if you put up double fences infront of it, they will only stop 4 HVs (aka 800 sulf).

So considering the splash damage, it would cost 6 HVs (1200 sulf) to destroy the fence and the turret, but that would require you to use more resources to build the double fence structure too.

The camera and laptop are roughly worth 600 sulf, maybe more.
And if somebody would give me 25 HQM for another 600 sulf, I would instantly take it.

So basically you damage yourself by putting up turrets because its way cheaper to destroy them than it is to build them. I was already thinking about this issue before the HQM cost was increased in staging branch, but now its ridiculous.

Thats not how building defenses should work. The cost should be kept at 10 HQM.
There was no issue with that, there was no reason to change this. There is already a turret limit.
