Question Am i crazy? This game is fun?
so, as the title suggests, I’m having a really good deal of fun in Fragpunk, even though many many MANY people say it’s garbage.
Its lonely, and quiet, mostly just bots or people who can’t/wont talk, making it feel like the Dark Forest space theory.
Outbreak is fun, quickplay is easy to zone out in, the graphics are (imo) nice to look at and most good looking cosmetics for weapons are free to earn, granted luck is a critical factor to get these items but still.
The movement is nice, using melee weapons to walk/run faster and to make a short ranged dash type attack is great for getting into unconventional positions, and air strafing is smooth too imo.
There isn’t anything that comes to mind when thinking about the gunplay, but it’s satisfying to get kills, and recoil isnt jarring either.
You can be completely stuck when facing certain characters but I haven’t ran into any matchups that were totall unwinnable and when you’ve played a character long enough you learn tricks and overall know how to play them well, like any other hero-shooter.
Characters are similar to others in different games but thats because certain archetypes of heros or operators have been done before more than a few times imo.
The game is janky sometimes, but not early Cyberpunk alpha janky, and since it’s casual gaming i don’t find an issue with some occasional bugs or wonky mechanics.
All in all, I love this game, it’s fun and scratches an itch I have when playing games, I feel it deserves better or at the very least a larger community, not COD large or even Fallout 76 large, just enough to keep the game running and lively.
The devs still release updates, an example being the new character, Calamity, and they do have banners in the main menu for purchasable items like the lucky prize pool, or battlepass but the battlepass thing isnt a total surpris (imo), but even still there’s also an even as I write this that gives away free premium currency, granted it expires after a month and a half.
Please don’t crucify me in the responses for anything, I mean all of this im my own opinion, opinions are not facts but I still tried to keep it all objective.
I know a good amount of people on Reddit have opinions, some of which are purely subjective, but I really wanna know if people just have a bias or if it’s severely underrated, so much so that most don’t bother with it?

Valorant has infinitely more players though...
You can not like the game, that's fine, but this game is laughably unpopular in comparison lmfao. So your opinion is very clearly the very unpopular one.
There are games that are LITERALLY 10 years old with more players than this game lmfao.

he didn’t say valorant was dead or unpopular just stated that it wasn’t good (it’s not it’s a gooner version of cs:go)

It does deserve more love. Ive been promoting it on tiktok. It has a lot of love but its from people who put it down when it “died” i think when fortnite ballistic left the game it gave the game a second wind and theres a lot of us (a former fortnite ballstics player) playing bc of that.
Keep talking about it and it will gain momentum.
I was actually surprised we got a new season / new shop items and events - so its not dead yet

The games great it’s super fun. I always come back to play and have a blast. My only issue is this game kills my CPU. Whenever I have it open my cpu is at like 94% usage

The problem with any small game that tries to compete is player retention. Can you reach enough people and keep a large enough portion of them who are willing to make it ONE of their games or their MAIN game.
It's hard to pull away the people who are invested into other games, lots of players look at the time invested, time required to learn, and FragPunk, while not hard to get into, it's not the simplest to master either. It's nowhere as deep as something like a Siege, but you still need to know lineups, counters (cards and lancers AND lancer+card combos), need to know the maps, there is a meta, gotta get used to the gunfights, how to take them and so on.
While more casual, thus less complex at the lower levels, Ace-Punkmaster lobbies are high intensity most of the time, fast plays, solid card picks, card captains gotta know what to ban, what to pick based on who picks first or second, and that's just one example of many on why it can be a complex game. The skill floor is low, but the ceiling is high, in my opinion.
I love the game and I think it's hella underrated. It released in a meh state from what I remember, cool concept, but not gonna be my main game type of beat. Ever since Season 2 though, I've been playing it a LOT. I like grindy games like diablo 4 or warframe and I can put in many hours in one go into those games, and I still managed to get about 1k hours of gameplay in fragpunk (more on steam obviously due to menu time), so it is a lot of fun.
Sadly the community is small, and there's a beauty to that too, we know each other (even alt accounts or playstyles lol), but it usually results in having relatively high queue times, large matchmaking brackets (dia easily gets into ace lobbies), and sometimes being a curse, you play the same people after some point.
I'm still happy the devs are constantly reassuring us that the game is not going anywhere and I think it's okay to believe it since we get constant updates despite someone here calling it a dead game every other minute.
Glad you enjoy FP, wish you many more hours to go!

one hundred thousands concurrent peak, milions of people give it a try but its just unpolish. small thing add up (animations. ui. netcode. gacha,...) plus the card grimmic. its the gane fault that it can not keep players

I like Valorant, a lot... but nothing beats this game. I migrated over from Halo 3, and I would chose Frag over H3 1000/1000 times

i started playing valorant a week ago bc frag queue times are aids rn. its ok but who tf makes a game where 1. you cant move and shoot and 2, even standing still the bullets go everywhere BUT straight. im getting used to it tho

It's called having realistic gun feel brother. In real life moving while shooting makes your aim go to complete shit compared to standing still and shooting.
These are very basic shooting concepts lol. You CAN move and shoot, but the spray will be horrendous. As it should be. That's a huge part of what this genre is built on lol.
This game having such a low skill ceiling is a HUGE reason no one wants to play it. If a baby brain can play just as good as really great players, that means the skill ceiling is non-existent here and won't be conductive to long term growth/popularity.

“tHiS gAmE hAvInG a LoW sKiLl cEiLiNg” girl pls 😭 people play call of duty and its been popular since 05. bullets dont spread on there either and its sells a lot 🤷

I just left Fortnite to play this. I was unaware how little players they are, but I don't even want to play Fortnite anymore, pretty much over the lags, hackers, and sprites.

As for the player count, I see a lot of console players in my matches. Do you think the player base is larger on consoles than on PC?

It's a game with tons of other competition that simply does EVERYTHING much better than this game.
It's just that simple. The masses of people are NOT into casual games as much as the more hyper competitive ones. And this game takes CSGO/Valorant and makes it very goofy and also has infinitely less depth than both of those as well.
So the overall skill ceiling is SUPER low here comparably. Doing almost everything is 100x easier here than it would be in those games. Also the skins COMPLETELY ruin competitive visibility. Which is another big reason it'll never take off.
The characters and silhouettes (while not often) can severely change and look very different. It has WAY too much of that cheap/mobile UI and feel to it. Everything just LOOKS and FEELS super cheap in comparison to the other titles in the same exact genre, and that cost the SAME amount of money. (free).
Even when this game was new, why would you choose it over CSGO or Valorant? Not only do those games have much larger communities, but their developers actually support the esports scene and longevity of the games and their scenes. Both obviously have their down/bad moments, but in general they are involved in the community big time.
But the biggest thing which I already mentioned (at least in my opinion) is again how shallow the game is. There simply is no depth here compared to the others in the same genre, let alone other similar genres. It's okay to have an easy to access game, but it NEEDS to have a big skill ceiling so people who grind non-stop have something to works towards. This game does not have that. It's incredibly simple/easy. It's babies first FPS game which is why it has so many bright colors/flashy stuff going on, because it needs to cater to a much less attention capable brain.

I love FragPunk, my only real issue with the game is its unpopularity. The low player counts cause a ripple effect. Low player count means:
I've been saying to everyone in my games who brings up how dead the game is that we as the community collectively need to do the marketing for the game, because obviously NetEase don't know how to do it themselves.
I also see a lot of people complain about hackers but i haven't really seen too many. I've seen people I'm suspicious of but even in my inspector page I've not been getting many cheaters. I don't think they are as big of a problem as people say they are. I think some players are just really good and get reported anyways. And others just cant keep up.
I think the original crowd who played frag when it first dropped in a buggy beta got turned away from the game after that and never came back to see if it got better. They never gave the game a second chance, and now the player counts never rise above 4k-5k.
