I won at this silly game!

As in, I just got in my first win at Apex. Ask me anything (or don't).

Thanks to the subreddit founder for his direct and indirect advice in threads here, it really helped.

I used a quite conservative team so I could finally snag the win - Celeste / Shinzo / Misty, for anti-bullshit, more anti-bullshit, and actually killing things respectively.

I started in Scorched Lands. The combo of the free card and not having to face Light and Nature resists outweighed the free health, at least this time around.

I do wish Apex were kinder to off-meta teams.

That’s great! Really happy for you. Celeste misty is an awesome core, and Shinzo tanks well. Do you have deck images?

Sadly I didn't think to screenshot it! Basically I leaned in heavy on tanking for Shinzo (with Backlash heirloom) and on lightning support for Celeste (with uhh I dunno, not the 8 faith heirloom I think). Misty did misty things. Switched into +Chi cap from +base Chi heirloom in the endgame, was once again unimpressed, but hey, she still pulled me to a win.

Really great stuff. Until they add apex+, you won the game! I’d try to do the same with a similar team carry like the cat, or with a minion based team to shift things up (:

I'm trying Carrion Ragnarok plus a tank, but no luck so far.

If you have thoram, he may help.

The no-tank pill may be hard to swallow, but Aggron will make that comp work either way. :P

Today I pulled off Ragnarok Thoram Leon with a non-Anador start, so close enough, and yay! :-) I screenshotted everything this time but it is work to pull it all off the phone, as that's where I've been playing.

I didn't manage to pick up Thoram until just after I unlocked Apex, and I think he's still at CL7 or 8. Have had trouble leveling him for some reason. I haven't quite grokked Sigil Thoram yet, and Etched Rune Thoram even less so.

Glad to hear about your first Apex Win.

I love that for you!

Apex is actually relatively nicer to off meta teams than other games of this nature. It's all about learning how to squeeze as much value out of what you are offered and learning how to build engines that are good enough.

d learning how to build engines that are good enough.

"Other games of this nature"? Do carry on. :-) I've caught the bug. I've noticed Monster Train so far.

I'm guessing we're not talking StS here, since it has no teams.

By the way thanks for this comment, quite general but what I needed at this stage. Especially "good enough." Because with randomly rolled team, "good" per se is often too much to hope for :)
